Be a Friend of God

There are as many thoughts on what friendship is as there are
people who want to be a friend. Some might think that a friend is
someone who likes to be with you, listen to your problems and support
you in good times and in bad. However, those who desire to be a friend
of God must realize that the qualifications for that relationship are
slightly different. To know for certain what God expects out of His friends
we need only look to the great patriarch Abraham. We know that
God considered Abraham a friend by reading passages such as 2 Chronicles
20:7
and Isaiah 41:8. In regard to Abraham they both read the same way:
“…/the seed of *Abraham my friend*/.” To find out why Abraham is a friend
of God we may read James 2:23: “…/and the scripture was fulfilled which
saith,
And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for
righteousness; and he
was called the friend of God/.” Abraham was obedient to the will of God and
thus the Father counted him as a friend. In the Bible, true belief is
equated
with obedience; they are one in the same. If belief simply meant knowing
that God existed then demons would also be counted as righteous (James
2:19).
Being a friend of God is easy. All you have to do is believe that He is
(Hebrews 11:6) and do what He says to do. If you want God to be your
friend than you also must be a friend to God.
