Actually, it's 256 digits (0-255 or 0-FF HEX) for a one byte number and
65536 digits (0-65535 or 0-FFFF HEX) for a two byte number.

Next question: How does one grab a hunk of memory that's capable of
holding, let' say, 400 charcters?
