FOR SIMPLE MEN

For simple men God writes in clear, straight lines,
Bold and strong, with marks that brook no doubt,
No need for secrets, signals, winks, or signs;
For these the Word is clear, as folk devout,
With constant, easy faith, who read and know;
For those who think they step a higher route,
God spells the selfsame Word, and brings them low.
