"It Is Finished"

 

A pastor once told me about a man (we will call him Tom) that called him to come to the hospital immediately...tears and sobs were plainly evident. The pastor of course rushed to the emergency room of this small town hospital, there to find a father, crying and pacing. As soon as they saw each other, they embraced. The pastor could feel Tom's pain as he asked what was the problem.

 

Tom told the pastor that his 6 year old son had been hit by a car and had a sever head injury. Pressure was building up in his young brain and he was going to be air transferred to a trauma center for immediate surgery. As the father told the pastor this, they could hear the SCREAMS of this young boy ..."DADDY, DADDY, WHERE ARE YOU, DADDY?"

 

It was obvious this man's son was in severe pain, as he cried out in agony, only a few feet away from where the pastor and Tom paced...behind double doors. The next question as the pastor paced back and forth with this distraught father was why did they not give him something for the pain. Tom told him that they could not give him anything because it would stop his breathing since it was a head injury. There it was again.. "DADDY, DADDY, IT HURTS SO MUCH. DON'T YOU LOVE ME DADDY .. WHERE ARE YOU DADDY??"

 

The pastor asked Tom why he did not go to him...to comfort him. Tom told the pastor they would not let him back into the treatment room. There was a guard posted that would keep him out as they worked on his son to get him ready for air transfer. The pain in Toms face was evident. He would have given anything to take his son's place.. or at least to have gone to him ..to comfort him...but he COULD NOT!

 

Flash back 2000 years ago... to a hill called Mt. Calvary... to another Father that was in deep agony that was hurting more then any father has ever hurt in the past -- or the future... hurting as He saw His Son being NAILED TO A CROSS...DADDY DADDY...WHERE ARE YOU DADDY....to be more exact. ."ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?", that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

 

Think of how YOU would feel to see YOUR son falsely accused of a capital crime.. to see someone you loved suffering ... Yet God watched helplessly as His Son was arrested, tried, beaten, mocked and made to carry a cross beam weighing almost a hundred pounds.. down the streets of Jerusalem.

 

Then to have nails driven through His feet and His wrist.... Jehovah Sabaoth,, the Lord of Host...could only watch helplessly Jehovah..the redemptive name of Deity. The Lord God ALMIGHTY could only stand by helplessly watching HIS SON in agony. Much as it often hurts to have wounds healed, Jehovah Rapha was hurting now as He saw Jesus hanging there... forsaken, in agony.. all alone...

 

His Father HAD to forsake Him.. Jesus to fill the requirement that the wages of SIN is DEATH or separation FROM GOD. There, 2000 years ago.. as HE was forcing each breath, as He was forsaken by His FATHER finally a SHOUT! It was so loud NO ONE wondered what He said.

 

IT IS FINISHED!!!!! IT IS FINISHED....three simple words that changed history...three simple words that changed the future for millions of people. Three simple words that has already changed.. or could change YOUR eternal destiny. Three simple words.... IT IS FINISHED! The price HAD been PAID IN FULL!

 

PAID IN FULL. What wonderful words. MY sins were NAILED TO THE CROSS and I bear them NO MORE... all because of three simple words....IT IS FINISHED.

"Keep them busy in the nonessentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds," he answered. "Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow."

 

"Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles."

 

"Keep them from spending time with their children." "As their families fragment, soon, their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of work!"

 

"Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice." "Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive." "To keep the TV, VCR, CDs and their PCs going constantly in their home and see to it that every store and restaurant in the world plays non-biblical music constantly." "This will jam their minds and break that union with Christ."

 

"Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers." "Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day." "Invade their driving moments with billboards." "Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products, services and false hopes."

 

"Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines and TV so their husbands will believe that outward beauty is what's important, and they'll become dissatisfied with their wives."

"Keep the wives too tired to love their husbands at night." "Give them headaches too!" "If they don't give their husbands the love they need, they will begin to look elsewhere."

 

"That will fragment their families quickly!"

 

"Even in their recreation, let them be excessive." "Have them return from their recreation exhausted." "Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on God! 's creation." "Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, plays, concerts, and movies instead."

 

"Keep them busy, busy, busy!"

 

"And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences."

 

"Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from Jesus." "Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause."

 

"It will work!" 'It will work!"

 

It was quite a plan! The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing Christians everywhere to get more busy and more rushed, going here and there.

 

Having little time for their God or their families. Having no time to tell others about the power of Jesus to change lives.

 

I guess the question is, has the devil been successful at his scheme?
