My Daughter Flew to Atlanta
by J. Randal Matheny © 2012

SJCampos, 2012 Dec 12, day after daughter
returned to U.S., sitting in Atlanta
airport waiting for connecting flight

My daughter flew to Atlanta,
She's yet to see old Santa,
Though Christmas time is near,
No sign of his reindeer.

The word is that he's hiding,
With the world's economy sliding.
The deer eat too much fodder,
The elves are fatter and broader.

The Missus tired of Noel,
The clapper's gone from the bell,
The sleigh is needing runners,
And Rudolph ran from hunters.

The kids no longer write,
And Santa feels the slight;
They order through the Net,
With dads going into debt.

"Merry Christmas" can't be said,
The holiday is dead,
By terms deemed incorrect,
Poor Santa has been decked!

The world has grown more jaded,
Our children's joys have faded,
Gone Christmas of yesteryear,
What happened to Yuletide cheer?
