Hitting the Target

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need
to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. - II Timothy 2:15.

But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured
of, knowing from whom you have learned them. - II Timothy 3:14.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete thoroughly equipped for every good
work. - II Timothy 3:16-17.

Free Tacos are coming for everyone in the United States. The Taco Bell fast
food restaurant chain promises to give a free taco to everyone living in the
US. Just one little thing has to happen before you can actually munch on
your free taco. What’s that? Well, the 150-ton Mir space station has to hit
a 40-by-40 foot floating target Taco Bell has placed in the South Pacific.
Just one small little detail like finding a needle in a haystack, or a lake
in the desert, or ... you get the picture. We may not receive our free Tacos
but Taco Bell has hit the bulls eye with all the free advertising they
received today.

It is ludicrous to think that Mir would actually hit that 40-by-40 foot
floating target. Many who claim to be Christians have about as much of a
chance to grow spiritually as Mir does to hit that target. It is ludicrous
to think that you will grow spiritually when you never do any of the things
necessary for spiritual growth. Spiritual growth does not just happen. The
apostle Paul makes that very clear to Timothy using words like “diligent”,
“present yourself”, “worker”, and “must continue”.

To grow spiritually we must take full advantage of the resources of God
(Philippians 4:19). We must be diligent in taking full advantage of God’s
Word through reading, study, memorization, and meditation. We have the
awesome, wondrous privilege to approach the throne of God in prayer. We must
not neglect so great a privilege. We have been instructed to assemble
together with other believers that we may be provoked unto love and good
works and so much the more as we see the day approaching of our Lord’s
return.

We can hit the target of spiritual growth if we will become workmen and
women who are not ashamed!

immediate future I will be resending devotionals written a few years ago.
