Meant to Be

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. – 1 John 5:14-15 NKJV.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28 NKJV.

Picture the urgent scene of a helicopter bringing a heart from a donor to be transplanted into a patient at Keck Hospital of the University of Southern California. The helicopter crashes on the helipad of the hospital shaking the entire building.  The helicopter ends up on its side but thankfully the pilot was able to extricate himself with only minor injuries along with two others who refused treatment. Emergency crews rushed to the helipad prying open the copter with the jaws of life. The donor heart was retrieved, but then the person carrying the heart tripped and fell with it. The heart was recovered again and was successfully transplanted into the patient. Some things are just meant to be! (Mirror News 11.07.20 and various other news venues.)

During this time of worldwide pandemic and the election turmoil in the United States will God answer our prayers about the pandemic and the election? One thing we can have confidence in is that when we pray according to God’s will what we are praying about will come to pass. Of course, we want the pandemic to end now, as in yesterday, so our lives can become normal again. We want the uncertainty about the election to also come to an end some in one way and others in another way. 1 John 5:14-15 is a guarantee that our prayers matter and that they will make a difference. Because, if it is God’s will, it is meant to be.

In a larger sense as we contemplate all of the pain and trouble that the pandemic and the election too is inflicting upon our lives it is easy to become discouraged. The message of Romans 8:28 is of vital importance to keep in mind as we travel through the rest of 2020 and beyond. In spite of the pain and trouble that we are experiencing God is able and will bring good out of it for those “…who love God, to those  who are the called according to  His purpose.” It is just meant to be!

I know that in my own life and in the lives of many others that God is using this time to draw us closer nearer to Him. May our God do the same in your life!

Ed Wrather began writing devotionals in the early 1990s. The distribution of those first devotionals was primarily through the Burning Bush Newsletter sent to prison facilities throughout the United States and Canada.

The Burning Bush websites are celebrating 22 years online since January 31, 1998. Since June 8, 1998 the Burning Bush Devotional has been spreading the truth of God's Word to subscribers across the world. At one time there were 18,000 subscribers in more than 70 countries to the devotional but that has now shrunk to around 9,000.

You can leave comments/feedback about the devotionals at http://www.theburningbush.net.

There is a translation tool on theburningbush.net website in the top right-hand corner of all of the pages.

Check out the Scripture Index being constructed for the Devotionals at the Burning Bush website. The Links are in about the middle of the home page. Topics for each devotional are now being added to the Index.

Please continue to pray for God to touch and bring about His will in these lives: Caleb Freeman, Buck & Barbara Wright, Gwen P., James Perkins and his wife, Ryan Thomas, Vonnie, Pat S., Evi Porter, Addison, JoJo, Bailey and Nicky; and Jadyn’s Dad.

Please pray for the coronavirus COVID19 pandemic to come to an end. Pray for treatments and a cure for the virus to be rapidly found and deployed. Pray for all those afflicted to be healed and for our leaders to have supernatural wisdom and ability to lead us through this pandemic.

Please pray for God’s will to be done in the election in the United States that we would be given great leaders who love the Lord.

Please pray for an end to the rioting, looting, wanton destruction, and the racial hatred in the USA and that it will be replaced with peace and love. Many prayer needs are posted at the Burning Bush website on the Prayer Request page. You can also post your prayer requests there (Of course, I am always in need of prayer - please pray for me. 03.18.18 I accepted the call to be the pastor of Fairview Baptist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma. Please pray for me and for this church.).
