"Depressed" Wednesday

"Depressed"

A little boy came home with his parents from church one Sunday.
He seemed a little depressed, so his mother asked him if something
happened in Sunday School class that he would like to talk about.

He told his mother, "Well, we were singing songs and the teacher
made us sing about a poor bear named Gladly that needed glasses and I
can't stop thinking about him.  She said he was cross-eyed and I feel
bad for him.

The mother couldn't understand why the teacher would teach such
a song in Sunday school, so she decided to call her.  To the woman's
amazement, the teacher said she only taught hymns that morning.

Then the teacher began laughing out loud and said to the mother,
"I know what Jeffrey's talking about! We learned the hymn 'Gladly The  Cross I'd Bear!'"

"Shortcut"

There were two young teenagers -- 13 and 14, brother and sister --
going down the road to home.  They stopped when they saw a farmer's
field.  It would cut about 5 miles off the distance they had to walk
if they could only go across the field -- instead of alla way on the
road.

Suddenly, the brother saw a sign the farmer had posted in his
field, and said, "No, I don't think this is a good idea, crossing the
field."

"Why not?" asked the sister, "It would save us having to walk
almost five miles!"

The brother asked, "Did you see the sign?"

His sister replied, "No."

"It says, 'The farmer lets you cross his field for free.'"
replied the brother.

"That isn't bad...." said his sister.

"Yeah, it isn't.  The bottom of the sign, however, puts a
different perspective on things.  It says, 'but the bull charges!'"

"Helping Sam at Church"

Because our former small-town parish was not a wealthy one, our pastor was dependent on parishioners for upkeep and maintenance of  the church. Once he asked my husband, Sam, to rewire the confessionals.

The only way to reach the wiring was to enter the attic above the altar and crawl over the ceiling by balancing on the rafters. Concerned for my husband's safety, I waited in a pew. Unbeknownst to me, some parishioners were congregating in the vestibule. They paid little attention to me, probably assuming I was praying.

Worried about my husband, I looked up toward the ceiling and yelled, "Sam, Sam! Are you up there? Did you make it okay?"

There was quite an outburst from the vestibule when Sam's hearty voice echoed down, "Yes, I made it up here just fine!"
