The Lord Said to my lord

(Psalm 110:1-7)

Dr. Curt Scarborough

I.  Concentration:  on David's prophetic words in verse 1

David wrote that the Lord (God the Father) said to my Lord (God the Son; the Messiah):

"Sit at My right hand till I make Your enemies Your footstool," Psalm 110:1.

II.  Meditation:  on the significance of these words

            1.  Jesus quoted Psalm 110:1 to prove that the Messiah was King David's

"Lord", although, humanly speaking, the Messiah was a descendant of David,

                 Matthew 22:41-46; Mark 12:35-37; Luke 20:41-44.

            2.  By this Scripture, Jesus taught that the Messiah was God . . . existing before

David was born, because David called Him his "Lord."

            3.  Jesus, the Messiah, is sitting at God's right hand, in the place of authority, v. 1;

                 Ephesians 1:20.

            4.  Jesus, the Messiah, will rule over all the world, v. 2; Philippians 2:9-11.

III.  Revelation:  on other Messianic prophecies in Psalm 110

            1.  The Messiah will have all power, v. 3; Matthew 28:18.

            2.  The Messiah will be a priest like unto Melchizedek, v. 4; Genesis 14:18-20; Hebrews 5:6-10.

            3.  The Messiah will judge the world, vv. 5-6; Acts 17:31; II Corinthians 5:10.

            4.  The Messiah will refresh and encourage His "volunteers" . . . the persons who have

chosen to follow Him, vv. 3, 7; Matthew 11:28-30.

IV.  Applications:  as a Christian, I need to . . .

            1.  Believe and testify that Jesus is the Messiah . . .the Son of the living God.

            2.  Worship the Lord, Who has all power and authority.

            3.  Faithfully serve the Lord because someday He will judge my works.

            4.  Receive daily the Lord's refreshing strength and spiritual encouragement.

Christmas is a Time . . .

Dr. Curt Scarborough

For Children, Christmas is a time of imagination . . . of sugar-plum fairies and

flying reindeer . . . of a miraculous star and a baby in a manger.

For teenagers, Christmas is a time of anticipation . . . of holiday parties

and laughing friends . . . of jingle-bell music and mistletoe kisses.

For adults, Christmas is a time of celebration . . . of festive decorations

and children (and grandchildren) around a bountiful table . . .of

already-guessed gifts and family traditions.

For seniors, Christmas is a time of recollection . . . of long-ago sleigh rides

and caroling parties . . . of childhood dreams and well-remembered loved ones.

For believers of all ages, Christmas is a time of salvation . . . "For you shall call

His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins," Matthew 1:21

. . . "there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is

Christ the Lord," Luke 2:11.

Later in his gospel, Doctor Luke mentions four things which believers should

do at Christmas time. (in the next E-pistle)

"Christmas is not a time or a season but state of mind, to cherish good

will, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas."
