The king and his bride

(Psalm 45:1-17)

Dr. Curt Scarborough

I.  Concentration:  on the heart of the poet who wrote this Psalm

        "My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition

        concerning the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready (skillful)

        writer." – Psalm 45:1

II.  Meditation:  on the King, vv. 2-9

1.      The King is blessed, v. 2 . . . attractive; winsome; gifted.
2.      The King is victorious, vv. 3-7 . . . worthy of praise; fulfilling;

        divine destiny; full of truth, humility, and righteousness; working

        miracles; will reign forever; will judge man's works.

3.      The King is anointed, vv. 7-8 . . . Holy Spirit empowered; joyous;

        enthusiastic; having the fragrance of life, healing, and mercy.

4.      The King is majestic, vv. 8-9 . . . from heaven (Ivory Palaces); the

        servants are royalty (King's daughters; honorable women); the

        Queen is in gold.  Not only are the believers servants of royalty;

        they also are members of the royal family!

III.  Meditation:  on the Queen (vv. 10-17)

1.      The Queen is changed, vv. 10-11 . . . new family, new relationship,

        new allegiance.

2.      The Queen is gifted, vv. 12-13 . . . to serve others in righteousness

        and purity.

3.      The Queen is influential, vv. 14-15 . . . bringing others into the Kings's

        palace.

4.      The Queen is rewarded, vv. 16-17 . . . praised as faithful; remembered

        with appreciation.

IV.  Revelation and Application:

1.      Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Revelation 19:16.
2.      The King is anointed, blessed, victorious, and majestic.  Worship Him!
3.      The Christian church is the bride of the King, Revelation 21:2, 9, 17.
4.      The Bride is changed, gifted, influential, and rewarded.  Thank Him!

Hail King Jesus, Lord and Master;

You were born to royalty;

We, Your servants, bow before You,

Pledging love and loyalty.

Be still, and know that I am god

(Psalm 46:1-11)

Dr. Curt Scarborough

I.  Concentration:  on Who God is

        1.   He is our refuge (shelter, asylum, retreat, harbor), vv. 1, 7, 11.

        2.   He is our strength, v. 1.

        3.   He is present with us in the "now," vv. 1, 7, 11.

        4.   He is our helper in times of trouble, v. 1.

II.  Meditation:  on what God does (or will do)

1.      He controls the forces of nature, vv. 2-3, 6.
2.      He prepares a heavenly city for His people, vv. 4-5.
3.      He will bring peace on earth, vv. 8-9.
4.      He will be exalted among the nations of the earth, v. 10.

III.  Revelation:  on verse 10

1.      "Be still" – God reveals Himself during our quiet times

      with Him.

2.      "Know" – True believers can have the certain assurance that God

        lives, that He draws near to those who draw near to Him (James 4:8),

        and that He enlightens the minds and hearts of His hearts of His people.

3.      "I am" – This is the covenant name of God . . . the One who exists and

        Who has existed throughout all eternity . . . omnipresent.

4.      "God" – The Almighty Creator of the universe watches over His creation

        (especially mankind), to be our refuge, strength, and present help.  He

        controls nature, brings peace, prepares us a dwelling place in heaven,

        and shall be exalted, Philippians 2:9-11 . . . omniscient and omnipotent.

IV.  Applications:  as a Christian, I need to . . .

1.      Schedule a daily quiet time to "be still" before the Lord . . . to worship

        Him and to hear His words of encouragement and instruction.

2.      Allow God to increase my faith and knowledge of spiritual things by

        being open to the personal ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life.

3.      Worship my Lord and my God . . . the Creator of the universe.
4.      Thank God for His blessings and provisions for all my needs.

'Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."
