God Gives Us Our Heart's Desire
(Psalm 21:1-7, 13)
Dr. Curt Scarborough
I. Concentration:
Psalm 21 is David's song of praise and thanksgiving for God's
answers to all the petitions he made in Psalm 20.
II. Meditation: on the blessings received by David
1. Rejoicing in the Lord's strength, v. 1.
2. Celebrating God's salvation, v. 2.
3. Receiving his heat's desire, v. 2.
4. Answers to his requests, v. 2.
5. Blessings of God's goodness, v. 3.
6. Crown, signifying membership in the royal family, v. 3.
7. Eternal life, v. 4.
8. Honor and majesty, v. 5.
9. Communion in God's presence, v. 6.
10. Steadfast security through God's mercy, v. 7.III. Revelation: on these same blessings enjoyed by believers today
1. We rejoice in God's omnipotence.
2. We celebrate God's salvation through Jesus Christ.
3. We have our prayers answered.
4. We receive our heart's desires . . . as they match God's will for us.
5. We obtain God's blessings as He supplies all our needs.
6. We have a spiritual relationship with the Father as His children.
7. We are given eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
8. We are honored by God as his faithful people.
9. We experience spiritual communion in the presence of God.
10. We have eternal security through God's mercy.IV. Applications: as a Christian, I need to . . .
1. Celebrate and rejoice in God's bountiful provisions for me.
2. Realize my honored position as a part of God's royal family.
3. Thank God for His salvation and everlasting life.
4. Abide securely in God's presence through His grace and mercy.
David foresees the cross of Christ
(Psalm 22:1-5, 7-8, 16-18, 22, 25, 30-31)
Dr. Curt Scarborough
I. Concentration: on the crucifixion events prophesied in this chapter
1. "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" v. 1; Matthew 27:46.
2. "All those who see Me ridicule Me . . . saying, 'He trusted in the
Lord, let Him rescue Him," vv. 7-8; Matthew 27:43.
3. "They pierced My hands and feet," v. 16; John 19:18; 25-27.
4. "They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they
cast lots," v. 18; Matthew 27:35.
II. Meditation: on other key ideas in Psalm 22
1. Holy God inhabits (is enthroned upon) the praises of His people, v. 3.
2. Trust (faith in God) always produces results: blessings, deliverance,
and answered prayers, without disappointment, vv. 4-5.
3. Declaration and praise of the name of the Lord (Jesus) should occur
whenever believers assemble together, vv. 22, 25.
4. The gospel of salvation through the righteousness of the Lord is to
be passed on from generation to generation, vv. 30-31.
III. Revelation: on the implications of these truths
1. Jesus Christ studied, meditated upon, and fulfilled all the Scriptures.
2. When believers worship and praise God, He comes into their presence
to manifest His power.
3. Without faith, no one can please God, Hebrews 11:6.
4. God's salvation must be passed on to each new generation.IV. Applications: as a Christian, I need to . . .
1. Meditate upon God's word so that it becomes a constant resource in
all the circumstances of my life.
2. Enter enthusiastically into the worship of Almighty God, with the
confident assurance and expectant hope that He truly is present with
us as we praise His holy name.
3. Live by faith; walk by faith.
4. Take personal responsibility for proclaiming God's salvation to my children
and grandchildren . . . and to other persons within my scope of influence.

It is a method of life"
