The Lord Reigns!

(Psalm 93:1-5)

Dr. Curt Scarborough

I.  Concentration:  on our God Who reigns

            1.  He is clothed with majesty (grandeur: exalted dignity), v. 1.

            2.  He is girded with strength (omnipotence), v. 1.

            3.  He is the Creator of the world, and He is the Sustainer of it, v. 1.

            4.  He is the eternal, everlasting sovereign of the universe, v. 2.

II.  Meditation:  on God's omnipotent power

            1.  The Lord is mightier than all forces of nature ("floods; waves"), vv. 3-4.

            2.  The Lord's voice is louder and clearer than the noise of many waters

                 (ocean waves; waterfalls), v. 4, John 12:28-30.

            3.  The Lord's testimonies (words; Scripture) are absolutely trustworthy . . .

                 "very sure," v. 5.

            4.  The Lord's dwelling place is adorned (beautifully decorated with holiness

                 (moral perfection), v. 5.

III.  Revelation:  on the attributes of Almighty God

            1.  God is the majestic, omnipotent Creator of the universe.

            2.  God reigns in time and in eternity.

            3.  God reveals Himself clearly to his people, with His "still small voice,"

I Kings 19:11-12, and through His word (Scripture).

            4.  God is holy (separate and pure), and He commands His people also to be

                 holy, I Peter 1:15-16; Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2; 20:7.

IV.  Applications:  as a Christian, I need to . . .

            1.  Worship Almighty God, the Creator of the universe.

            2.  Obey my sovereign God, Who is the King of Kings.

            3.  Listen for God's voice speaking to me personally in my spirit and through

His word . . . and obey Him immediately and completely.

            4.  Through continual repentance, confession, and faith, receive Christ's holiness

                 as my "wedding garment" of salvation, Romans 6:19; Ephesians 4:24;

                 I Thessalonians 3:13; 4:7; Hebrews 12:10, 14; Matthew 22:11-12.

The comforts of god delight my soul!

(Psalm 94:1-23)

Dr. Curt Scarborough

I.  Concentration:  on the iniquities of the wicked

            1.  The wicked are proud and arrogant, vv. 1-3.

            2.  The wicked speak insolent, boastful things, v. 4.

            3.  The wicked persecute God's people ("Your heritage") . . . breaking,

afflicting, slaying, and murdering the innocents, the widows, the strangers

(foreigners), and the fatherless (orphans), vv. 5-6.

            4.  The wicked believe and say that God does not see nor pay attention to their

                 actions, v. 7.

II.  Meditation:  on God's questions to these wicked people

            1.  Senseless fools, when will you "wise up?" vv. 8, 11.

            2.  Shall Creator God, Who made ears, not hear your evil words? v. 9.

            3.  Shall Creator God, Who made eyes, not see your evil deeds? v. 9

            4.  Shall Omniscient (all-knowing) God not correct (punish; discipline) wicked

people and nations?  vv. 10, 20-23.

III.  Revelation:  on the thankful affirmations from God's blessed people

            1.  God instructs and teaches us His will and His ways, v. 12.

            2.  God gives us rest (relief) from adversities (troubles), v. 13.

            3.  God does not cast off nor forsake us, v. 14.

            4.  God someday will restore His righteousness and justice on the earth, v. 15.

IV.  Applications:  as a Christian, I need to . . .

            1.  Hear God's call for me to rise up against evildoers and to stand against

                 workers of iniquity, v. 16.

            2.  Recognize that without the Lord's help, my soul "would soon have settled

in silence" (become spiritually inactive; virtually dead; verbally mute concerning

                 spiritual things), v. 17.

            3.  Realize that in His mercy, God hears my cry for help and holds me up . . . giving me

solid ground on which to walk, v. 18.

            4.  In spite of all my anxieties, worries, concerns, and doubts, receive God's comforts

(plural) and delight (rejoice) in them, v. 19.
