Ah, nothing quite like a bit of conviction of the Holy Spirit. Oswald Chambers, in his writings entitled, "My Utmost For His Highest", can always be counted upon to challenge our thinking, and perhaps send a bit of conviction our way.
Read today's edition of Utmost and apply it to the deep recesses of your heart.
When I think about the Pharisees, or I think about the apostle Paul, my first inclination is to think they were way off base. I cannot see myself going out chasing anyone, much less my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as He shows me the very essence of God.
But wait. How many times have I sought my own way, and gone my own way in complete abandonment of my Savior? How often have I willingly gone against His Way for a moment of pleasure, or even to do something thought was right, only to be completely wrong?
I will leave these things to you to ask yourselves some similar questions.
Dear Lord, how it grieves me to realize that I deny you, like Peter, and I persecute you, like Paul. Just as You said on the Cross, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do", forgive me for my self centered behavior. As the song says, "Mold me and make me after Thy will, while I am waiting, yielded and still" ... and "Fill with Thy Spirit till all shall see Christ only, always living in me". Amen.
