[GATHERING]? Christian Musician's Summit

Posted by: erinanne <erinanne@...>

I'm wondering who is going to the Christian Musician's Summit in Tacoma
in November?

I'm *very* excited about attending Norm Stockton's workshop, and
meeting some churchbass folks (previous silly thread about UBP and
UBPCB's notwithstanding). Wish I could have arranged for a lesson with
Norm but I guess he was booked super-fast or something. 🙁

I'm hoping there will be some discussion of the significance of music
as a specific worship tool in our relationship with God and each other
as fellow believers. Sometimes music can be a divisive factor instead
of a bonder. It can also be a very powerful tool for manipulating
people which I think isn't a wonderful thing, either. My own personal
experience, however, is that it is like a highway to my soul, and it
gives me a language for worshipping God in the best way I know how.
It seems that *both* the words and the tune/harmonies really matter for
me. The greatest words really get stuck if the tune is unpleasing, so
I can only enjoy them as text instead. Great tunes/harmonies with
feeble lyrics are not a useful worship tool, although I might enjoy the
song on an enjoyment level like so much other music outside of worship.
But the songs that stick and give me a voice for worshipping God have
both a pleasing tune/harmonies and meaty lyrics.

Does anyone have any thoughts on these subjects?
