{NBC} computer question

For any of you self-described computer geeks:

Our computer at home has a CD-ROM that is 4X and my son has asked for a
game that "requires" an 8X CD-ROM. As far as I can tell, we have all of
the other minimum requirements. Will this game work at all on our
computer?
