[PRAISE] Nailed a Gig

Posted by: dstudenick <dstudenick@...>

I haven't had much time to write anything on the list,
but I have to take the time to share this.

I've been a tad frustrated because I haven't been on a
worship team or any kind of music ministry in months
and the new church where we are doesn't need anybody
for their team right now. Soooooo, I put my name on a
web list of musicians not thinking anything would come
of it.

Less than a week later, I get an e-mail from a band
looking for a bassist, since theirs is leaving. I met
the drummer on the commuter train and he gave me a
practice CD for the audition on Sunday. Also went and
saw them play Sat. nite. Very talented group, although
they need a bit of help with vocals and arrangements
(enter yours truly). Really struggled Friday
practicing with the CD so I was a bit worried about
the audition. However, I figured either it was a God
Thing (tm) or it wasn't and either way He was in
charge.

Long story short, I smoked the audition!! Had to
transpose on the fly for a couple songs where they
capo'ed up and only got lost a little bit towards the
end. Got lost on a couple other songs, but I was
trying to follow these guys playing almost completely
by ear without any practice with a leadsheet and no
time to write out the chords, etc.. What really nailed
it in my mind, was when they wanted to jam around on a
funk song and out of nowhere I pulled this really
NASTY sounding (for me) funk lick and used a Wah patch
on my multi-effect. Very cool stuff.

I am so encouraged and stoked over this.

I will start playing with them later in November.
Outgoing bassist will play the November 1st gig (thank
God).

Website is http://www.poriverprophecy.com

I am SO stoked about this!!!

Praising God who always provides a way,
David
