Matthew 21:1-12
FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS
The disciples followed the Lord's directions for "Palm Sunday".
We should follow the Lord's directions because:
THE LORD'S DIRECTIONS ARE SPECIFIC - Vss. 1-3
Jesus told the disciples where to go, what to do, and what to say.
Through the Word of God and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we too will receive specific instructions. Romans 12:2, John 16:12-14, Psalm 32:8
THE LORD'S DIRECTIONS ARE SCRIPTURAL - Vss. 4-5
Jesus was out to fulfill Scripture and to do God's will. John 4:34, 9:4, Matthew 5:18
We should do the same! Mark 13:31
THE LORD'S DIRECTIONS ARE SURE - Vss. 6-7
The disciples found things to be just as Jesus told them. We count on God's directions as accurate. Mark 11:1-6
THE LORD'S DIRECTIONS ARE SPECIAL - Vss. 8-11
Because Jesus directions were followed the disciples were part of a great day and a day when God's word was fulfilled. Whenever we follow God's directions, the results will be special. Sinners will be challenged and saved. Saints will be edified.

A GOOD DEED
PRECIOUS OINTMENT - Vss. 6-7
PEEVED DISCIPLES - Vss.8-9
PLEASED SAVIOR - Vss. 10-12
PROMISED REWARD - Vs. 13
Remember, when disciples are peeved, Jesus is often pleased.

Matthew 26:47-56
ALWAYS THE TEACHER
Jesus was betrayed by Judas and arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. Even to the very end Jesus was a teacher of what was right.
JUDAS - CONFRONTED BY FRIENDSHIP - Vss. 47-50
To the very end Jesus taught kindness to one's enemies. Judas betrayed Jesus, and Jesus still calls him "friend".
PETER - CHASTISED FOR VIOLENCE - Vss. 51-54
Jesus was simply fulfilling the Scriptures and was in total control. He could have freed himself if he wanted to. Peter was chastised because he was reacting with violence.
THE CROWD - CHALLENGED BY INTEGRITY - Vss. 55-56
The crowd lacked integrity, treating Jesus like a thief when they could have arrested him publicly at the temple. Jesus showed His integrity.

LIKE THE COLT
YOU ARE NEEDED - Vss. 1-6
Of course, because God is God, He technically needs nothing.
However, He has chosen to use each of us in ministry. Ephesians 2:10, 1 Peter 4:10-11
He has also chosen us to worship Him. Hebrews 13:15
YOU ARE TO CARRY JESUS - Vs. 7
The colt carried Jesus to Jerusalem and to a multitude of people.
We are to carry Jesus to the multitudes. Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15
YOU ARE TO BE UNDER HIS CONTROL - Vs. 7
The colt was unbroken, but he was "broken" by Jesus.
Jesus wants to break us and have full control of our lives. Romans 12:1, Galatians 2:20
YOU ARE TO BE FORGOTTEN AS CHRIST IS WORSHIPPED - Vss. 8-10
The further the Lord went, the more likely it is, that people forgot the colt.
So it should be with us as well. John the Baptist stated it well when he said, "He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30)

Jesus agonized over His persecution and death, even asking God if He could be excused. However, his prayer was always in submission to God.
