Old Fashioned Butter Roll

INGREDIENTS

3 c Plain flour
3 ts Baking powder
1 pn Salt
1/4 c Shortening
1 c Milk
1 1/2 Sticks butter
1 c Sugar
2 ts Vanilla
5 c Boiling water

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix the first 5 ingredients. Roll the dough out thin. Mix the softened
butter, sugar and vanilla; and sprinkle on the dough. Roll the dough,
jelly-roll style, and place in an oblong baking pan. Combine 2 tablespoons
sugar and 1/3 cup flour and sprinkle over the roll. Pour the boiling water
over the roll. Bake at 400 until golden brown. Serve hot. It is a bread
