Old-Fashioned Lemonade

INGREDIENTS

6 lg Or 8 medium lemons
2 c Sugar
2 c Water
Lemon slices

INSTRUCTIONS

This tangy lemonade made with a basic syrup, can be prepared beforehand.
Wash lemons. Roll lemons on a flat surface to soften. Remove outer rinds
(yellow part) with a vegetable peeler; cut into strips. Set lemons aside.
Combine sugar and water in a medium saucepan; bring to a boil over moderate
heat to dissolve sugar. Add lemon strips. Reduce heat to low. Simmer,
covered, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat; take out rind. Cool syrup.
Squeeze lemons; strain juice. Add to syrup; mix well. Refrigerate, covered,
until ready to use. To serve, combine syrup with 3 quarts cold water. Mix
well. Pour over ice cubes in tall glasses. Garnish with lemon slices.
