The Joy of the Lord is my Strength

One of my favorite songs is “The Joy of the Lord is my Strength”:

The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength

If you want joy you must sing for it
If you want joy you must shout for it
If you want joy you must jump for it
The joy of the Lord is my strength

Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
The joy of the Lord is my strength

In Nehemiah 8:9-12, there was sorrow and weeping when the people heard God’s law (after many years of it not being read in public) and realized how far they had strayed away from its teaching. At this point in time, God’s people had returned to Judah to rebuild the city and its temple – and the work was long and hard.  You can imagine that the people felt some despair at how long it was taking, and how tired they were at the end of each day!

When God’s law is obeyed, this causes God and his people to be glad and rejoice. The joy of the Lord gives strength to His people!
