File Name: 7-tuner-209.hqx (748 k)
Date: Oct 17, 1997
From: [email protected]
Subject: 7Tuner 2.0.9
7Tuner is an application that modifies certain resources in your System,
Finder, and/or system enablers to change the appearances and
functionalities of your System 7. Since all changes are modified directly
in your system software, the changes do not require extra system memory to
function and remain available even all extensions are turned off. Version
2.0.9 supports Mac(tm)OS System 7.0 to 7.6.1, 68K, Power Macintosh, and
MacOS-compatible.
7Tuner 2.0.9 includes 7 options:
*** Finder Shortcuts ***
Set all possible command key combinations for Finder's menus (total of 36
menu items with 47 different keys).
*** 3D System Folders ***
Change System's default folder icons, such as System Folder, Control
Panels, and so on. 7Tuner 3D folder and Copland style folder files are
included.
*** Color System Icons ***
Change System's default icons, such as alert box icons, Trash cans, and
many others. 7Tuner icon and Copland style icon files are included.
*** Finder Tuner ***
Activate or deactivate Finder's zooming rectangle effect, rename delay, and
keyboard menu. Change suffixes of new folder, copy, and alias. Change the
font style of alias names.
*** Identifications ***
Change the machine name and icon that appear in the Finder's "About This
Macintosh" window, and change the menu name of Finder's "About This
Macintosh" to anything you like. (In MacOS System 7.6 or later, "About This
Mac(tm)OS Computer..." is displayed)
*** Color Tuner ***
Change colors of menu bar, menu item, and window background.
*** Cursor Tuner ***
Change animated cursor and I-beam cursor.
Version 2.0.9 features automatic duplication and swap of system files,
customization of all options, help text, Balloon Help, and auto recovery.

Aaron+Plus is an accessory to "~Aaron" which I have come up with.
It changes the appearance of your cursor to something a little
more 'Aaronish'.
If you have ResEdit, you can choose between several cursors
by changing the ID# of the cursor you want, to "1" (one).
Note: The cursors are in the "crsr" Resource Fork.

About This Computer Replacements
Version 1.0
2/28/98
These are some replacement pictures for the MacOS 8.x "About This Computer" dialog box. As yet another way to customize your Macintosh. Software developers tracking memory leaks should appreciate a little change from the same boring Earth from Space picture.
Included are a few variations on the MacOS logo, some shameless plugs for the projects I'm working on (The Loft- formerly Event Horizon Reality Studio), and a special one for those of use who know the ins and out of ResEdit a little too well.
System Requirements:
MacOS 8 or above. That's it!
Installation:
There are two ways to use these:
1. Edit your Finder with ResEdit (not for the faint of heart!)
2. Use Mac Identifier 2.x
Enjoy!

Subject: ABox 1.8
Hi all...
The 'collective' of TopSoft Inc., a not-for-profit software programming
group, is proud to announce the first public release of the ABox, also
known as TSAbout, available for use within your non-commercial applications
(be sure to read the license that comes with the ABox software, and all
other TopSoft software packages).
We wanted to come up with something that no-one had ever really seen or
done before, much like our guiding principle for the FilterTop software,
and release it as part of the FilterTop package as well as its own package.
The ABox supports nearly all of the way-cool-nifty-gee-i-gotta-have
features that Apple has been cranking out for System 7 and beyond. It
supports QuickTime, the Text-to-Speech Manager, Drag-and-Drop, the
Asynchronous Sound Manager, the old Threads Package, the new Threads
Manager, is PowerPC capable via UPP's instead of ProcPtr's...you get the
idea
The ABox is really just a set of C++ classes that have a rather API for
client software, based mainly upon the early documentation regarding
Apple's Speech Recognition Manager; the ABox has an object-oriented
"properties" driven API, where instead of providing lots of methods to do
lots of things, there are a handful of methods to do lots of things. Most
importantly, all client-adjustable features of the ABox are driven through
a pair of easy to use methods that are documented in the ABox demo
application and the web pages.
Most importantly, the ABox can be used to display a set of Topics and
Slides, which makes it useful for tasks such as enhanced about boxes,
online reference, help, etc. Topics are really just files within a
folder-tree, where each file is either a QuickTime movie, a text file
(normal TEXT and SimpleText 'ttro'), a PICT file, or a file that contains a
'TSAb' resource which instructs the ABox which resources should be grouped
together as Slides within the Topic (much like icon families...a group of
resources that share the same ID). By pointing the ABox at the root of some
folder tree containing files with 'TSAb' resources, you can make the ABox
display a hierarchical list of topics that the user can then browse
Oh, by the way...adding the ABox to your projects will add about 49K (even
less when compiled and built with the latest Metrowerks CodeWarrior
compiler!
And now, some current news about the ABox...
-------------------
Web Stuff:
The _new_ ABox web pages are installed and available on the TS-Mac, so
point your web surfers at:
http://www.topsoft.org
to see the TopSoft Home Page, which has a link to the ABox pages, or you
can go directly to the ABox pages via
http://www.topsoft.org/Projects/ABox/AB_Welcome.html
-------------------
Current Versions:
The current verion of the ABox software is v1.8, and is available as part
of the FilterTop software release or as the ABox source & demo release,
available via anonymous ftp to the TS-Mac (ftp.topsoft.org) or atlas
(atlas.chem.utah.edu)
-------------------
Please, take some time out during your web surfing and check out TopSoft's
home page, and while you're at it grab a copy of the ABox for a test drive.
thanks in advance

Subject: AliasKeys 1.0.3 - assign keystrokes to open files and folders
AliasKeys lets you assign keystrokes to open files and folders. Any item
that the Finder can open may be dragged to the list of AliasKeys and
assigned a combination of keys, to open it without touching your mouse.
You can use AliasKeys for applications, documents, folders, aliases,
preference panels, servers, scripts...
Hitting the keys opens the corresponding item, as would a double-click
on its icon. AliasKeys is basically as simple as that; it is also
extremely easy to set up.
AliasKeys needs Mac OS X 10.2 or better. It is fully compatible with
10.3 "Panther". AliasKeys is fully unicode-aware and can be used with
any international keyboard and localized system version.
Languages included: English, French, Japanese.
Changes in version 1.0.3:
* A couple of cosmetic bugs fixed in the French resources.
* Previous versions used a self-copying "internet-aware" disk image.
They are a good idea, but they only work well in some web browsers. For
many users, they create a unmanageable situation that has caused plenty
of tech support emails. Thus, with this version, we are back to a
"plain" .dmg file, along with a .sit for backup.
* Adventurous users can test a hidden feature. Open
"~/Library/Preferences/net.widemann.aliaskeys.plist" and set
openFinderSelectionWithCapsLock to YES (or true), then save, log out and
login back. From now on, if the capslock key is down, AliasKeys will try
to open the selected item(s) in the Finder with the triggered item.
For example, if the AliasKey is set to open Preview, selecting a
PDF file and hitting the AliasKey will launch Preview and open the PDF,
even if the PDF's creator is Acrobat. This feature may hit snags when
combining some file types with certain applications, so be warned and
use at your own risk. We do NOT tech-support this feature, however we'll
accept gladly any comment or suggestion that you wish to offer.

Subject: SAM Installer Scripts
In response to some complaints on the Internet
regarding the un-intuitive installer script for
Symmantec's popular virus program SAM* 3.5.
Symmantec's script will not do an installation
if you have replaced the original Virus Definition
file. Go figure! I don't know about you, but I
update mine when necessary on the original disks.
I have created my own scripts which should work
fine. I have System 7.1, and I know it works there,
but I also have created a System 6 installer. It
should work fine, but I have no place to test it.
Only the target folders have changed. These scripts
only recognize the Virus Definitions file on the
Decontamination Disk, so make sure that is where
you place your updated Definition file.
If you decide to use these, please just e-mail me
and let me know that you have used it. Also, let
me know about any troubles you may have. I can be

Enclosed is a new version of Ars Magna called Ars Magna II. I recomplied
Mike Morton's ars.c code to use think's console library. This makes it a
little more compatible but its still just a C program with command line
interface.
I gave it a new signature and icon to keep it separate for the other version.
I did this because someone here needed to use ars magna and the old version
would trash his screen. Hopefully some one will give it a good interface
and make it a real mac program. I just don't have the time.

Subject: Assimilator 1.1
Assimilator is designed for Macintosh lab situations where you want to
make all the harddisk's in a lab look almost identical. When the
Assimilator program is run on a lab Macintosh it will mount an
AppleShare file server and then make the harddisk look more or less
exactly like a pre-specified source folder on the server. It does this
by throwing away (into the Trash) any files or folders that don't belong
or are different and downloading any missing files. Icon positions,
folder views, finder flags and so forth are all corrected on the client
Macintosh to match the source folder.
Although it is designed for student lab situations, it might also be
useful in other circumstances, such as for setting up newly purchased
Macs or in testing or demo labs.
Changes since 1.1 include:
* Open Transport IP address, and PCI ethernet address compatibility. *
You can set a folder to be downloaded only if the destination folder is
missing. * Interoperability with MacPrefect and MacAdministrator. *
Various bug fixes and enhancements.
Assimilator requires System 7 and a harddisk and is $10 shareware.
Version 1.1 is a free upgrade to registered users who registered after 1
Jan 1996. Users who registered prior to 1996 can upgrade and receive a
50 46iscount.
Enjoy,
Peter.

Subject: Austrian Patch for Mac OS D-8.1
This patch is similar to the one I posted earlier today. The other one
was for OS 8.5, this one patches the German version of Mac OS 8.1. It
adds some Austrian data to your system file, *replacing* the
corresponding German ones and thus compensating the lack of Austrian
localization resources in the Mac OS. You'll notice the difference in the
control panels Datum & Uhrzeit, Tastatureinstellungen and Zahlenformate,
plus, of course, in the keyboard menu.
This patch only works with the German version of Mac OS 8.1. Do not
attempt to install it over other versions.

Balloons.ext is an external package for use with 4th Dimension. It is a
freeware utility that enables localized Balloon Help and changing Balloon
Help messages during runtime. With the package, you can display text from
string resources and 4th Dimension variables. You can also display styled
text and pictures.
T o i n s t a l l t h e p a c k a g e
Copy the package with the 4D External Mover into your structure file. The
package will work with 4D Server, 4th Dimension 3.0 or higher and System
7.0 or higher.
T o u s e t h e p a c k a g e
You do not need to call any external procedures. The package installs
itself automatically during startup. You can specify Balloon Help for
objects in a layout by clicking the 'Balloon Help' button in the object
info dialog. See the 4D Design Reference for details. You can specify
dynamic balloon help the same way as you would do it for static text
elements.
R e s o u r c e B a l l o o n s
To display the contents of a STR# resource, say string 1 of resource 15000,
you set the Balloon Help text to
:15000,1
The STR# resource should be in your structure or .res file, otherwise no
balloon will be shown.
To display the contents of a PICT resource, say resource 15000, you set the
Balloon Help text to
:P15000
To display the contents of a styled text resource, say resource 15000, you
set the Balloon Help text to
:T15000
Styled text resources are a combination of 'TEXT' and 'styl' resources.
They can be created easily with ResEdit.
To display the contents of a 'STR ' resource, say 15000, you set the
Balloon help text to
:S15000

Displaying variables enables you to change the balloon help message
according to the state of your program. For example, if a checkbox is
checked you might display a different help message for it then when it is
unchecked. This significantly improves the effectiveness of balloon help.
To display the value of a 4D variable, say myVariable, you set the Balloon

Subject: Better UDebugger 1.1 - Debugging power for CodeWarriors
(Version 1.1 fixes an error in the included resources.)
This is really nothing spectacular but I haven't seen or heard
of anything like it so here it is.
What:
Better UDebugger is a patch for PowerPlant 1.1 (CW6). It's
includes this document, an altered "PP DebugAlerts.rsrc" and a
patch for "UDebugger.cp".
How:
Replace the "PP DebugAlerts.rsrc" found in the PowerPlant
Resources folder inside your PowerPlant Libraries folder and
apply the patch to "UDebugger.cp" found inside the Utility
Classes folder. The patch is an UpdateMaker document and the
application can be found on your CodeWarrior CD. UpdateMaker
should be on your HD so just open the patch. To see the
changes you have to use debugAction_Alert by adding these two
lines to your main():
SetDebugThrow_(debugAction_Alert);
SetDebugSignal_(debugAction_Alert);
Why:
After "installation" you'll be given more options everytime an
exception or signal occurs. You'll be able to quit the program
(great when you're caught in a loop or just want to go home and
never program again), break into the debugger (great when you
want more info and track those critters down) or just continue
("I didn't see that...").
Maybe not the greatest hack in the world but hey, it made me
smile a couple of times.

Version 1.9.1 was recompiled with CW9 and version 4 of the plugin

9.761181e-313xpect allows suppression of shift/reduce & reduce/reduce

Moved skeleton code into TEXT resources in plugin
Added flag to generate .cp files instead of .c
and corrects the following bugs:
output files are now truncated before use.

Subject: BugScan 1.0b1 Revision
BugScan 1.0b1
October 23, 1998
BugScan is freeware - by downloading this file, you agree to use it at your own risk.
This application was mainly designed for our clients to determine if they do in fact have the AutoStart and Graphics Accelerator files on their hard drives. These viruses have become real pests for many of us. Make sure you use Virex or Norton Anti Virus if you get a red light (and then call your local computer consultant). If you get a green light, bonus! If you don't own one of these applications already, make one of them your next purchase.
BugScan will detect all files for all strains of the AutoStart 9805 Worm current at 10/23/98 as well the Graphics Accelerator Extension (GAX). BugScan will also detect any combination of these files. Click BugScan's 'Help' button to read more about the viruses themselves.
We strongly recommend that you restart your Mac with extensions off (holding down the 'shift' key) before running BugScan. You can now restart your Mac from directly within BugScan if needed.
BugScan gives you two scanning options:
Quick Scan Method
Checks for AutoStart and Graphics Accelerator files in their exact locations on the selected volume. This method does a top level scan and a system level scan on the selected volume (a system level scan is performed only if there is a System Folder on the selected volume).
Full Scan Method
Checks for AutoStart and Graphics Accelerator files in all locations on the selected volume - in other words, everywhere. Note that the full scan method takes much longer and even longer yet when scanning network volumes. This is, however, the recommended method.
BugScan gives you three menu options:
Install 9805 Defense
Creates invisible, locked folders in the appropriate locations on your startup disk to combat the AutoStart 9805 Worm.
Install GAX (Graphics Accelerator) Defense
Creates an invisible, locked folder in the Extensions Folder on your startup disk to combat the Graphics Accelerator Virus.
Open QuickTime Control Panel
Opens the QuickTime Control Panel and prompts you to turn the "Enable CD-ROM AutoPlay" function off. BugScan quits immediately after opening the Control Panel.
If BugScan locates any virus applications and/or virus reference files, BugScan will attempt to remove them. If any of the files are already in use (infecting your hard drive), BugScan warns you and prompts you to delete them manually. BugScan will do its very best to make any invisible files visible and to move all these files to the trash. If this is not necessary, the files will be deleted but you'll still need to do a proper virus scan to see if the rest of your Mac has been infected. Hopefully not.
Running BugScan does not make your Mac instantly 'safe'! Everyone needs to practice "safe computing" from now on!
Remember to do a proper virus scan using Virex or Norton Anti Virus. The bad news is that if you've been infected for some time now, you'll probably be looking at a complete reformat and re-install. The best advice we can give you is to get on this ASAP.
We do not provide free technical support for freeware (nor free technical support for virus-hunting, troubleshooting and maintenance).
Good luck...

Subject: Burn 2.5
I'm pleased to announce the latest release of Burn, version 2.5.
Now fully Macintosh 8.5 and Mac OS HFS+ file system compatible.
Enhance your privacy by securely deleting data from your computer. Most people don't realize that emptying the trash does not erase the content of the file being deleted. Burn solves this problem by overwritting the file's data before deleting it.
Burn features user specified erase patterns and number of passes.
Burn 2.5 fixes a problem where erase free space would not erase more than 2 gigabytes of free space from drives that had more free space available. Burn 2.5 has also been thoroughly tested with Macintosh OS 8.5 and the new Mac OS HFS+ file system.

CleanRecentItems 1.0
What it is: AppleScript program that cleans up the Recent Items Folder
Author: Ton Brand
Mac OS: 8.5 or newer
License: freeware
CleanRecentItems takes care of an error in Mac OS 8.5 and newer that makes
the Recent Items folder at the end of the path "Your Hard Disk:System
folder:Preferences folder:Navigation Services folder:" being overloaded by a
huge number of aliases in the course of time.
This causes an unreasonable delay when calling up an Open or Save dialog
supported by Navigation Services, because the system has to find the 10 most
recent items out of several hundreds (or more) for display under the Recent
popup menu.
CleanRecentItems sets a default limit of 50 for the number of items stored
in the Recent Items folder. When that number is exceeded, the whole contents
of the folder is moved to the trash. You can modify the limit by opening the
script of CleanRecentItems with Script Editor.
It is suggested that you put this program in your Startup or Shutdown Items
folder, which is in the System folder.

the Finder assigning useful names, wasting the time you saved.
ClippingNamer helps you manage clippings. Without leaving your current
program, you can:
* Automatically assign a new name based on the (text) clipping contents.
* Automatically create a thumbnail image (icon) for picture clippings.
* Popup a dialog that lets you see both ClippingNamer's and the Finder's
suggested names, and use either one or a new name you type.
You can set any of these modes (or none) as the default, and invoke any
of the others with modifier keys (completely customizable). There are
several other convenience options as well.
UPDATE: Version 1.0.2 fixes a small bug that could cause the dialog to
appear when dragging data within the same program (not to the Finder).
Also, invented file names that contain return characters are now handled
correctly, dragging stuff to the Trash works, and various cosmetic
improvements to the dialogs are in place.
ClippingNamer is $10 shareware. See

Subject: Photoshop clut converter
Hi,
Ever needed to convert a photoshop clut (color table) file into a clut
resource ? Here is a small application to do just that. It prompts for a
file to open, then prompts for a filename to save the new clut as. It saves
it's files as resedit documents. Simple as that. Source code is included.
Authors: Reevan McKay (clut conversion routine) and Mark Elliott (minimal

There are a few planned improvements. Please do not distribute modified

CommFigure is a small utility that should speed up the time it takes to
configure Internet applications, by configuring multiple applications at
once. CommFigure is designed to be modular, that is new modules to
configure new Internet applications can be added by dropping them anywhere
on your hard drive, and new field settings (those found within the program
- ie. Real Name, Organisation) can also be added by using ResEdit or a
similar editing tool. In this way it should be simple for Internet
Providers or institutions to customise CommFigure for their personal needs.
CommFigure actively configures applications by editing their preference
files - this approach should enable virtually all Internet applications to
be configured by just one program - CommFigure.

Enclosed is the updated C code and resources for a pair of control
definitions (CDEF's) which I originally released last fall. The
controls are a simple slider, similar to the Sound control panel's
slider, and a flag identical to that used by the Finder in list
views. I'm supplying this so other programmers can easilly
include these elements in their own dialogs and windows (they have
no direct use for the general public).
For an application which uses both, see my recently released Siege

Changes:
The flag control is unchanged (it's already perfect).
The slider now implements a solid thumb instead of the default
outline dragging. I've also removed the pageup and pagedown

Netscape creates a 'MagicCookie' file which it uses to store small amounts
of information for various web sites.
Cookies are useful to web sites for a number of things. These include user
authentication and tracking for marketing purposes.
There are a few applications available which trash the MagicCookie file on
a regular basis. This stops any site from being able to track you, but it
will also lose any useful cookies, such as ones used for user
authentication. Cookie Cutter gives you more control of the MagicCookie
file. It allows you to selectively remove cookies that have been placed in
your MagicCookie file. You can also set Cookie Cutter to automatically
remove cookies from particular sites (domains), each time you use it, and
to always ignore cookies from other domains.

Subject: Cyber Link 1.03 cpt
Cyber Link is a utility that allows you to use the Finder and its icons to
keep track of and organize all the places you visit while you are surfing
the World Wide Web.
Cyber Link files are like Macintosh Finder Aliases except that they point
to WWW files and documents instead of Macintosh Files and documents. They
are small files that contain the WWW URL or Universal Resource Locator.
When you click on one in the finder the Cyber Link application sends a
message to your Web Browser telling it to go to that location.
Cyber Link files can be created easily. When you have found a location on
the Web you would like to make a Cyber Link to use the New... menu command
from Cyber Link's File menu to save the Cyber Link file to your hard disk.
Cyber Link implements one of the coolest features in Microsoft Windows 95
that's not available on the Macintosh already, Shortcuts.
You can also go to Cyber Link locations by using the Open... command in
Cyber Links File menu or dropping a Cyber Link file icon on the Cyber Link
applications icon in the finder. You can drop MacWeb URL files on the
Cyber Link applications icon as well.
Are you tired of typing "http://www." and ".com" every time you want to go
to a location on the Web. The Go To Company Name... command in the Navigate
menu may be just what you are looking for. If you type apple, sony,
microsoft or rtz into the dialog box that appears your web browser will
go the home pages for those company's. What is happening is Cyber Link is
actually sending your web browser a message to go to Web URL
http://www.rtz.com. Many companies arrange the names of their web sites in
this same way so this menu command will work with all of them. The The Go
To School Name... command will work the same way but will add a '.edu' to
the end of the URL instead of a '.com'.
If you are using Cyber Link with The Virtual Meeting and you have the
conference floor you can control all the other conference attendees Web
Browsers using Cyber Link. When you double click on a Cyber Link file Cyber
Link will not only tell your Web Browser to go that location it will
broadcast a message to all the other Web Browsers in the conference telling
them to go to that location as well.
For more information on The Virtual Meeting visit the RTZ Software home
page. You can do this by selecting the find Out More about The Virtual
Meeting" command in the navigation menu. Or selecting the Go To Company
Name... and typing in rtz.
Cyber Link will launch Netscape Navigator 1.1, MacWeb or Mosaic if it can
find them on your Macintosh. If you have more than one you may want to edit
Cyber Links STR# resource # 300 using ResEdit to change the priority in
which Cyber Link searches for and launches these Applications.

Delete Web Caches is a AppleScript text program that deletes a variety of

that you can change it until your heart's content. I've compiled it as a

What does "Deskpop" do?
Deskpop is a Control Strip module which lists all volumes, folders and
files currently on the Mac's desktop.
This is especially useful for the (hopefully short) time the desktop is
cluttered.
Folders are displayed with the underline style.
Volumes (a.k.a. Disks) are displayed with the bold bold+underline style.
The Trash is displayed with the bold style.
Selecting an item from the Deskpop menu will open it.
Holding down the Control+Option keys will reveal it in the Finder.
Holding down the Control+Shift keys will move the selected item to the
Trash.
If the selected item is a volume, Control+Shift+selecting will unmount it
and eject it, if its ejectable.
These key combinations can be modified using the "Deskpop Settings"
dialog, which is accessible from the Deskpop menu item with the same name.
Requirements
Requires Mac OS 7.1 or better, and scriptable Finder (which is integrated
into Mac OS 7.5 and better, I believe).

Subject: Disk Recall
ABSTRACT
Disk Recall
Disk Recall - is a super-fast disk and FTP cataloger. It creates
catalogs of any type of disk (floppies, hard drives, CD-ROMs,
Zips, Sy-Quests, AppleShare volumes, etc...). It features an
intuitive Finder-like list view for browsing disk contents, and a
powerful multi-criteria search engine modeled after Sherlock's
Find File. Disk Recall uses a very fast archiving algorithm to
scan disks 5 to 10 times faster than other Macintosh catalogers.
Disk Recall aslo archives FTP servers and catalogues Info-mac
abstracts as well. Disk Recall also lets you search for duplicate
files; delete files or folders; scan inside Stuffit files; open,
reveal and copy items in the Finder, and more. Registered users
also get the Disk Recall Extension which automatically scans disks
at eject time. Unlike with other (slower) catalogers, users barely
notice the extra delay when ejecting disks. Disk Recall is
distributed as shareware. Version 1.2.3 fixes minor bugs from

create a catalog of every file on every one of your floppy disks, hard
drives, CD-ROMs, optical drives, servers, or whatever. Naturally,
DiskTracker can read into StuffIt and Compact Pro archives and
self-expanding applications.
After scanning your disks, you can then search the catalog at
unbelievable speeds with the powerful searching facility (including
multi-parameter and duplicate file searching). You can easily create
professional looking disk labels with the built in disk labeling
facility and label template designer.
Features include:
-View the contents of scanned volumes in a familiar easy-to-use
System-7-style file list. -Built in (fast!) virtual memory scheme
ensures that you won't run out of memory, even when scanning huge
volumes and CD-ROMs with only 600K of allocated RAM! -Intelligent disk
scanner can operate in the background and allows either scans of online
volumes and servers or floppy disks (insert disks one at a time to scan
them). -Launch files directly from the program, or have the finder
display them for you. -Fast, multi-parameter (use AND, OR, or XOR)
searches. Search on almost 20 different criteria! -Really powerful disk
labeling system allows completely automated disk label production. -Draw
your own label templates using the built in MacDraw(tm)-style template
editor, featuring powerful file-lists and rotatable text. -Fat binary
runs in native mode on PowerMacs or on 680x0 based machines. -Plus much,
much, much more!
DiskTracker requires System 7.0 or later and at least 700K of available
memory.

Subject: DropUNIX 1.2
DropUNIX 1.2
============
By: Ryan Davis, Zen Spider Software

mailto://[email protected]
Why did I write DropUNIX?
-------------------------
Basically I was tired of writing support for some sort of user interface
for UNIX ports. What it really comes down to is I dislike both Symantec's
and MetroWerk's cconsole call. I thought, "Mac users don't DO paths... It
is even discouraged by Apple...". So I wrote this little library allowing
people to convert their ugly console app with no real interface to at LEAST
be drag & drop'able.
How do I use it?
----------------
Well, this is the nice part. So all you have to do is start a new
application project (or duplicate the examples project) add all your unix
files, the DropUNIX library, and the DropUNIX resources file. Don't forget
to make the creator 'UNX' (delta = option-d) or change the BNDL
information in the resources. Finally, include "Main.h" in the same file
that has your original main(...). It has a #define to convert your
main(...) to Main(...), so linkage is automatic once you compile...
Essentially, you never change your code!
Why should I use it?
--------------------
Simplicity for the first part. You don't have to do much of anything to get
it up. Second, to maintain Apple's Human Interface Guidelines. I hate, You
hate, we all hate icky GUI's! Last, but not least Productivity. By using
DropUNIX you have increased your productivity by giving the port a new
interface for free, and you have increased your users productivity by
giving them an interface they can use intuitively...
Changes
=======
Version 1.2 has been cleaned up quite a bit. It has been updated for CW8,
and includes a CW8 project file. It has been enhanced to compile clean
under Apple's Universal Headers 2.0+, and everything now compiles under C
or C++, with or without precompiled headers. In other words, if I can
compile it, you can compile it!

This is an AppleScript. It isn't much, but I think it's a worthwhile
one. All this basically does is dumps the Netscape Cache file, which
is filled with virtually useless items from Netscape. It takes you from
your hard drive root directory all the way to the Cache , then puts it
in the trash and deletes it. I set up the memory to 5,000 Kbat the
time my cache file was 2.3 MBbut if you want to change this to suit
your needs, go into "Get Info" under the "File" menu, and change the
Suggested Size and the Minimum Size.

Subject: Dvorak Lefty keyboard layout
The Why
As a lefty, I found the Dvorak layout a little less useful in building
speed. So I created the Dvorak Lefty layout. I popped the keys on my
PowerBook 1400c and arranged them in a mirror image of the Dvorak layout,
provided by Dvorak International (thanks, guys). I then used ResEdit to
create the KCHR resource, remapping all the keys to the new layout
(including the option & shift-option characters).
I never learned to touch-type, but have managed to get around 40 wpm
staring at the keyboard. I have been able to catch up to that with less
finger strain with this layout.
The What
This is a horizontally flipped version of the ANSI Standard Dvorak layout.
The Dvorak Lefty layout is a simply KCHR resource created with
ResEdit. It is System 7 compatible and should create no problems or
conflicts with any software. This layout is FREE. Copy, distribute, and
post it as you please. I do ask that the layout, the KeyCaps screenshot,
and this Read Me file be distributed together. Also, this layout may not be
sold, except that a reasonable distribution fee may be requested when
necessary. Share and enjoy.

Subject: eclectic CDEF Collection 1.0
The eclectic CDEF Collection is a set of 2 freeware CDEFs (control
definition functions) written in Pascal, the Celsius CDEF and the Gauss
CDEF.
CDEF stands for "control definition function": it is a way to define the
appearance and the behavior of custom controls. Custom controls may be
dials, gauges, sliders, and so on. CDEFs may be used by almost every
Macintosh software and by practically every development environment and
programming language.
The Celsius CDEF implements a thermometer- or barber pole-style progress
bar similar to that used by the Finder in the Copy or Find windows.
Additional options allows you to honor custom colors stored in 'cctb'
resources, to draw the bar always in the active look ignoring
deactivations, and finally to display the bar with a 3D-like "inset"
effect, as shown in the develop 15 article "Working in the Third
Dimension".
The Gauss CDEF draws application-specified blocks of text. It can draw
simply the control's title, append a numeric value to it or draw a block
of text up to 32K set up by the calling application. Optionally the
Gauss CDEF can also honor 'cctb' resources, draw the text with the
owning windows' text font, size and style, and draw a 3D-like effect
(inset or raised).
The eclectic CDEF Collection consists of
- two CDEFs: the Celsius CDEF and the Gauss CDEF - two 'stubs' to allow
source-level debugging of the CDEFs: StubCDEF and JumpCDEF - some
utility routines - a demonstration application for the CDEFs
The eclectic CDEF Collection is written by:

Subject: Ejecter 1.0 - Eject disks while files are open
Ejecter 1.0
-----------
http://members.xoom.com/JeffScott/
By Jeffery Walker and Scott Bonner
Copyright 1997-98 Jeffery Walker & Scott Bonner
All Rights Reserved
What's it do?
------------
This small utility is used as an alternative way to eject removable volumes (ie. disks, cd, etc). It also has the Following Features:
*Can eject shared volumes, which would normally require you to shut off sharing to eject it.
*Great to use if you don't like to drag to the trash
*If an application or file on the volume is open when you eject the disk, it will keep the app, and/or file open and untouched until you go back to at which time it will ask for the disk again.
*Can remove disk images from the desktop
Future Features
--------------.
* The ability to rebuild the desktop of the disk next time it is inserted
* Automatically Quit/Close/Save open applications or files on the drive before it ejects
* Rebuild your hard drive's desktop
Known Bugs
------------
There are no know bugs at this time.
Registration Information
-------------
This program is shareware. The shareware fee is $5. Please help us pay our expenses. If you register we will send you the upgrade to later versions free and before everyone else. I know that doesn't sound like much, but we don't believe in serial numbers, and stuff to force people to pay. A Site License is also available and costs $50 (roughly equal to 10 users) and covers all locations for your organization within a 160 kilometer radius of your site (100 miles). One big advantage of a Site License is that you do not need to keep track of how many people at your site are using the software. A World-Wide License costs $1000 and it covers all locations for your organization on the planet earth.
How to Register
-------------
Paying for Ejecter is fairly simple. Open the Register program that accompanies Ejecter. Enter your name, your email address, and the number of single user licenses you desire for each program you wish to purchase (or Site or Word-Wide licenses). Save or Copy or Print the data from the Register program and send the data and payment to Kagi.
If paying with Credit Card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is [email protected] and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and paste into the body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgement.
If you are paying with Cash or USD Check you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is:
Kagi
1442-A Walnut Street #392-QGT
Berkeley, California 94709-1405
USA
You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi cannot accept checks in other currencies, the conversion rate for non-USD checks is around USD 15 per check and that is just not practical. If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment. Kagi can not invoice your company, you need to act on my behalf and generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork on your end. Please do not fax or email payment forms that indicate Cash, Check or Invoice as the payment method. As far as we know, there is still no technology to transfer physical objects via fax or email and without the payment, the form cannot be processed. Payments send via postal mai l take time to reach Kagi and then up to 10 days for processing. Again, if you include a correct email address, you will hear from Kagi when the form is processed.
CD-ROM and Web Site info
------------------
You may include this on a CD-Rom however, we get a free copy of the CD-Rom. You must notify us before you make the CD-Rom, in case of Newer Version, and you must send us the $5 registration fee or have already registered.
You may put this product on your Web Site as long as this file is included with the program, you notify us prior, and you don't link to our copy on the web. Use some of your own space.

Here is a Eudora plug-in with filter sounds generated with the PlainTalk
software. You can have these sounds played by the filtering mechanism of
Eudora 3.0 Pro, which will give you an audio alert for messages that match

These sounds are freeware, you may copy or modify these sounds in any way

A request: if anyone knows a method of redirecting PlainTalk-generated

Subject: Eudora IC Helper v1.0
Eudora IC Helper (and DropStrip-urlM)
version 1.0, by Paul Goracke
What it does
------------
With the release of v3.0 of Eudora (Light and Pro), QUALCOMM added a nice
URL-launching feature. But it doesn't work well with Internet Config, a
program I find very useful. Instead, they use internal aliases, which is
fine as long as you only access your Eudora settings on one computer. If
you use it on multiple computers, such as in a lab environment, you will
need to find the appropriate helper the first time you click a URL on a
different machine.
That's where Eudora IC Helper comes in-it's a small standalone app which
creates a Eudora plug-in containing resources which reflect your helper app
choices in Internet Config. It does not modify the Eudora application, and
it does not patch any traps. It's quite transparent, and makes an excellent
Startup Item.
It's not fancy, and doesn't have much in the way of a pretty user
interface, but my goal was to have it small, functional, and as invisible
to my lab users as possible.
Requirements
------------
The enclosed applications require System 7.0 or higher. They are 68k-only,
so they should run on any and all currently existing Macintosh that meets
the system requirement.
If you don't have Eudora 3.0 or higher and/or Internet Config, the programs
will certainly run, but they won't be of much use.

Subject: Copland-Style File Transfers for FirstClass
This patcher changes resources in your FirstClass 3.0 application so the
file transfer progress bar looks sort of like the one that Aaron gives you

look right with older versions of FirstClass.
A backup of the original application will be placed in the Trash so that

Please note that any settings files which contain resources that also
modify the file transfer window will override the resources in the
FirstClass application. So, the effect of this patch will only show up when
you are using a settings file which has not already been modified.

Subject: Find In Files 2.0
Find In Files 2.0 searches a set of files (or all files) for some text.
Why would you use Find In Files? Here's an example: Suppose you have a
bunch of HTML documents, and one or more of them has some information you
need. You could open every one of the files and search them by hand, or
use Find In Files to search for you. Simply enter some key words in the
"Search For" text area, optionally enter a creator and file type (or click
the Select File button, and open any file to get the file's creator and
file type), select the folder where the search begins, and click on Search.

FindText 1.3.6
FindText is a utility that can search the files on your harddisk for that
specific text you know is hiding somewhere. Simply type in the text, tell
it what folder(s) or disk(s) to search, and it will find all files
containing that text.
FindText it very useful as an adjunct to Sherlock under MacOS 8.5 which
only indexes the data fork of files. It is also one of the few tools that
can search the files of popular utilities (that put their data in the
resource fork) like eDOC, ScrapIt Pro and NotePad deluxe!
Although FindText is fast, it is not as fast as Apple's Sherlock but
Sherlock works only after a time and space consuming indexing of your
harddisk.
So, if you don't loose track of your files on an hourly basis, you will
prefer FindText.
FindText can search the data- and/or resource-fork of your files.
FindText needs System 7 or better and runs native both on the PowerMac,
iMac and the 68020/030/040 Macs. FindText is fully compatible with Mac OS 8.
Every user of FindText is advised to update to version 1.3.6.
FindText is shareware (USD 20). You can register via Kagi (creditcard,
cash, check, ...).

Subject: FuzzyFind for MacOS Version 1.0
What is FuzzyFind for MacOS?
How was the file named I saved a year ago?
FuzzyFind for MacOS is a tool similar to Apples Find File placed in the
Apple Menu.
The advantage of FuzzyFind is, that it will find files which are named
not exactly as defined in the search string. It will ignore writing
mistakes and find all similar names.
For example if you search for "Account Meier", FuzzyFind will find all
documents which are named with "Account Mayer", "Account Meyer etc. Also
writing mistakes like "Acount" or "Accuont" will not influence the
search result.
FuzzyFind should not replace Find File from Apple. It is an extra tool
for very difficult search processes, where time is not so essential than
finding the right information.

Subject: Gatekeeper 1.3 (yes, two in as many days)
--========================_36297202==_
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"
Gatekeeper 1.3 is a set of Macintosh system extensions (INITs)
and related control panels (cdevs) which, when active (i.e.
allowed to install themselves during the boot process) offer
protection against attacks by all known viruses (to the author
at the time of this release).
Gatekeeper also monitors computer activities for what are
considered to be suspicious 'events' or 'operations', in an
attempt to intercept what could be variants of known viruses or
even completely new viruses.
Since its initial release in January of 1989, Gatekeeper has
repeatedly demonstrated its ability to stop the spread of
viruses which were unknown during its design. Like any anti-
virus system, however, it cannot guarantee complete protection.
Of course, no claims or promises are made regarding Gatekeeper's
effectiveness or suitability, and some functions and capabil-
ities of Gatekeeper are non-trivial to use and may require a
careful reading of the documentation.
Gatekeeper 1.3 Release Notes 12-Nov-93
---------------------------------------------------
Gatekeeper 1.3 was created the day after 1.2.9 was released to fix
a bug that caused all pre-7 systems to hang during startup, and
crashed some System 7.x machines.
For those of you wondering about the story behind the bug, and
why 1.2.9 missed its scheduled release date by three days, it's
pretty simple. When the new viruses appeared, I was in the middle
of work on a new and improved Gatekeeper which was going to be
version 1.2.9 in a couple of months. Unfortunately the work, while
mostly complete, still wasn't quite finished at the time those
viruses appeared. So I had to either (a) try to finish the new
improvements very quickly, or (b) rip them all out and return,
more or less, to the functionality of 1.2.8. I went for option
'b'. Unfortunately, while I was ripping out the nifty new code, I
overlooked one file in one of the ten or so projects that currently
combine to form Gatekeeper. Consequently, some of that new code
which wasn't quite finished was built into one portion of version
1.2.9. Since it was mostly working, it passed all my in-house
(actually "in-office" would be more accurate) tests prior to
release, but failed when it finally met up with the real world.
Why didn't I just go back to the archived 1.2.8 source? Because
there were some bug fixes and various uncontroversial (but
significant) improvements already in 1.2.9 which I certainly
wanted to be part of any new release.
So, here's 1.3; use it in good health. Please delete any copies of
1.2.9 that you may have laying around and spread the word that 1.3
is available.
[Thanks, BTW, go to Brian Price for allowing himself to be
dragooned into running some last minute tests.]

Grapple is a string finder for the Mac that is very fast, powerful
and friendly. Version 1.3 is faster than any other string finder we
could find. Whether you've lost a piece of email, a business letter or
a C/C++ header file Grapple will quickly find it!
Grapple has a clear and intuitive interface. Set up a string to find,
choose where to start your search and hit the search button. Grapple
searches recursively through the folder hierarchy for files of the chosen
type (or types) which contain your string. Matched strings are extracted
and listed in a window for you to browse through. At the end of a search,
select any file from those listed and either view it from within Grapple,
have the Finder display its location or open it with the editor of your
choice - all at the press of a button!
Grapple has many features not mentioned here but those that are
NEW to version 1.3 include:
- now faster than any other string finder tested!
(check out the test results at the web site).
- export search results as a plain text file
- PC and UNIX files are indexed and viewed correctly - as for Mac files
- numerous user interface tweaks.
Grapple is fully functional SHAREWARE.

Those folks from Graphic Simulations can sure program a flight simulator,
can't they? But they can't spell worth a darn; dialog boxes in Hellcats
and Leyte (and the manuals for that matter) are absolutely full of
stupid spelling errors (like "acheived", in one dialog box that successful
pilots get to see a lot).
This annoys me. If it doesn't annoy you, read no further and trash this.
If it annoys you too, use ResEdit to paste these corrected STR# resources
into their respective applications (Hellcats and LeyteGulf). All I did
was use ResEdit on the original STR# resources and edit their text to
correct spellings, capitalize Hellcat, etc. You could use this same
technique to customize Hellcats messages (e.g. "You really bit the
big one there, ace.").
Graphic Simulations or anyone else is welcome to take these STR# resources
and create a more user-friendly patching application.
[Usual warning: ResEdit can be a dangerous toy, make backup copies first]
Surely this doesn't violate Graphic Simulation's copyright since the
STR# resources alone are of no use to anyone who doesn't own Hellcats/Leyte.

HotlineHelper is a shareware application that adds several new cool
features to Hotline Server (68k or PPC) by Hotline Software, Inc or any

-search files on your server by name or finder comment
-quickly find the most recent uploads
-download a text index file of your server.
Furthermore HotlineHelpers does these things automatically:
-erase/clean comments of your files
-empty the trash.
HotlineHelper does not communicate with Hotline Server. It's therefore
possible to use it with file transfer software different from Hotline
(like Stairways Software NetPresenz FTP Server). However, HotlineHelper
has been designed with Hotline Server in mind. Some features might seem
useless or will not work at all if you use another file transfer server.
New in version 1.6.4
- checkbox for disabling auto-activation of HotlineServer
New in version 1.6.3
- if opened, Hotline Server is made the front process after 5 mins of
inactivty so it gets more processing power
- HotlineHelper 1.6.3 takes much less CPU time, especially when in
background
- support for online registration
Bug fixes
- Recent uploads will not longer create aliases of files with bad

Subject: HyperCard Dummy 1.2.1
Dummys sole purpose in life is to keep HyperCard running. HyperCard has
a bad habit of requiring at least one stack open at all times when it is
running, making it necessary to switch to some other stack before you
close the one you are working with. So if you are working on a stack,
say HyperWorldPeace, and you want to use ResEdit to add a sound to it,
and you don't want to bother quiting HyperCard, and restarting it, just
leave Dummy open, and you dont have to.
Dummys second sole purpose in life complements the first one: Dummy can

faster than you could do manually.

Subject: Hyperturtle Tools XFCN
The HyperTurtle Tools XFCN is an excellent turtle graphics add-on module
for basic animation effects in HyperCard and SuperCard and is also useful
for creating geometric art for HyperCard and SuperCard cards. HyperTurtle
Tools was written using the powerful C language and is less than 26K in
size!. The stack with the XFCN copiously documents all of the built-in
TurtleTalk commands and gives plenty of snappy examples of direct Quickdraw access
from SuperCard.
HyperTurtle tools has support for drawing lines; rectangles,
roundrectangles; ovals; arcs; polygons; icons; color pict resources; color
icons ("cicn" resources); black and white fill patterns; RGB colors; color
fill patterns ('ppat resources'); absolute, relative, and turtle graphics
relative coordinate systems; real or integer coordinate system; basic
turtle graphics primitives - writing to the clipboard and on top of
SuperCard and HyperCard.
HyperTurtle Tools will work with either color or black and white machines.
HyperTurtle Tools is shareware for 25$ with unlimited royalty free distribution
in your stackware.

Subject: Hynoptic SDK
If you want to write savescreen, stand-alone, modules for HypnOptic
Savescreen System you should use this Software Development Kit. Even if
you are a beginner in programming you may build, and sell, your own
savescreen application! The SDK project lets you concentrate only on the
creative part of developing: the main, and more tedious, part of work is
already done. You may simply change the contents of one routine to have a
new savescreen. If you're more experienced, instead, you may add routines,
change resources and create explosive images.
HypnOptic Modules are Appearance savvy and require at least System 7 to run.
New since version 2.0.0
Better project setting. Addresses update
