Subject: "Par Four" Email Sound (8-bit/22kHz)
"Par Four" Email Replacement Sound
You squeeze the grip softly, looking first at the ball, then at the cup.
The ball, the cup. Drawing back, you edge the putter just six inches
behind the white ball, recoiling gently as the head makes contact with
just the right amount of force. The green, in perfect condition, escorts
your ball through the contours of the terrain, right to the hole. It
reaches the edge, pauses briefly, then proceeds to disappear into the
earth making that glorious pitter-patter sound you love so much.
Hey, wake up! It's just an email coming in, man!
Introducing the "Par Four" email sound from Clixsounds, a perfect digital
audio snapshot of that ever-gratifying sound of a golf ball dropping into
the cup. It's a short stereo sound perfect for any golfer's email
program. The sound can easily be used with later versions of Claris
Emailer, Eudora Pro, and others that allow the assignment of sound files
as mail notifiers. Other programs that don't have the option of
assigning sounds can still utilize this sound with the help of "Agent
Audio," available for download Clixsounds' seb site.
The "Par Four" Email Sound is available in both 16-bit and 8-bit stereo
and can be downloaded here or at the Clixsounds WWW site at:

Subject: Address Book 4.0.5
AddressBook 4.0.5 fixes bugs which caused printing to crash. See Read Me
for details.
The original code for Address Book was written by Jim Leitch, deceased.
Smith Productions have modified that code to create Address Book 4. The
only changes made were to support the current MacOS, 8.1 and to build the
application using Metrowerks's CodeWarrior. No additional features were
added. The primary changes made to this document has been to eliminate
contact information for the original author. I will support user with
previous version of Address Book when ever possible, however as I do not
have the source code for version prior to 3.7.2.. If you have an older
version of Address Book it is recommended that you upgrade to Address Book
4.
Address Book 4 is an easy-to-use, fast and powerful way to manage and
control lists of names, addresses, and phone numbers. The Application works
on Macs from the Plus to the latest PowerMacs.
* preset fields for easy set-up and data entering
* memory-resident list for fast finding and sorting
* multiple sort capabilities
* import utilities allow importing from other databases, word processing
programs, and Personal Information Managers
* exports to mail merge, databases, word processors, and spreadsheets, and
palmtop computers, including Newton, Psion 3a, Sharp Wizard, and HP95LX
* prints envelopes, labels, business cards, postcards, Rolodex, standard
and custom address books, and lists, in color if your printer supports it
* prints postal bar codes
* phone dialing through modems, the Mac speaker, Hyperdialer, and Desktop
Dialer
* log file for logging calls, taking notes
* call timer
* macros
* on-line help
* multiple language capability
* password protection
* regular updates will be available on the Internet from regular download
sites.
Address Book, is year 2000 ready. Address Book makes use of the built-in
Macintosh date routines, which function correctly well pass the year 3000.

Subject: Address Pad 1.0.4
As the name suggests, this program will help you manage addresses, phone
numbers, email and homepage URLs of your friends without resorting to more
complex (and cluttered) applications. I gave this program such a generic
name so that it can fit nicely under your Apple menu along with the other
desktop utilities provided with Mac OS. By default, Address Pad will also
behave like a typical Apple menu application (i.e. opening a default
document when launched).
1.0.4 - One additional separator has been added in the address drawing
options; Drag&Drop feature now supports exporting users as text clippings to
the Finder or to other applications; documents can now be exported as
tab-delimited text files; some parts of the code have been optimized and/or
modified.

About this package
add spaces(runtime droplet) is an AppleScript application while add
spaces (run only script) is an AppleScript run only compiled script.
The purpose of these scripts is to deal with some horrible situation
where Netscape Communicator/Navgiator doesn't not wrap a 2 byte
language sentence with some 2 byte language viewing utilities on PC.
Apparently, adding an extra space will solve the problem.

Subject: Aprs Fax 2.0
Suppose you have a Fax-modem and you want to receive a fax late at
night or during your absence. Up to now the only way to do this was to
keep your Mac running at all times. No longer.
PreFax is a piece of hardware that enables soft power on/off Macs to
be turned on when the attached modem receives a telephone call (or fax
call). The Aprs Fax control panel shuts down the Mac after a
designated period of time if the Mac was brought to life by the modem.
Together PreFax and Aprs Fax can be used as an unattended fax
receiving machine.
New in version 2.0
Aprs Fax can now tell an extension manager (not included) to only
load the extensions necessary to receive faxes. PreFax 2.0 fixes a
problem on newer Macs. Newer Macs, and those running system 7.5.1 and
up, can be shut down by pressing the power key on the keyboard. This
had an annoying side effect with the original Prefax hardware. This
version contains a fix.

Subject: BBEdit HTML Tables version 1.0.2
Tables are one of the most useful parts of current HTML (Hypertext Markup
Language). They make it possible for designers to create documents on the
web which have a much more robust structure than was possible with HTML
prior to their introduction. BBEdit HTML Tables was written to extend the
capabilities of the BBEdit software, which is one of the best ways of
coding pages if you know HTML. The intention with this software has been to
produce something that while unfortunately not WYSWYG (essentially
impossible in an extension to BBEdit) is as easy to use as possible, while
also allowing the creation of complex tables.
BBEdit HTML Tables implements tables as per the Netscape 1.1 specification.
BBEdit HTML Tables has been extensively tested on versions 3.1.1 and 3.5
Lite of BBEdit. It requires a version of BBEdit that supports extensions,
which means version 3.0 or later. This software is shareware, with the low
fee of US$5 payable directly or via Kagi. Please read the enclosed read me
for details.
Version 1.0.2 should replace earlier versions, it adds the ability to undo
as well as fixing some minor bugs in the menus and preferences.

Subject: BrowserCleanQuit3.1
CleanQuit is a simple way of doing two things with one step--it will quit
your web browser and then empty out the cache folder, getting rid of all
those files that the browser collects while you surf the web. This has
been in use by a small group of friends for some time, and I know it
works well with Netscape. Since I dont know anyone that actually uses
Internet Explorer, this hasnt been stress tested with that browser,
but I did do some basic testing. The one feature that isnt yet built
into this script is a way of saving the Cache History file, but I find
that I dont need to save it. If this is a concern for you, wait until I
write that feature in as an option.

Subject: Cache Killer Pro II 2.0 - web browser cache management
Cache Killer Pro II is an application that deletes the web browser
caches for Netscape Navigator, Netscape Communicator, Microsoft
Internet Explorer, America Online, or any other browser.
Using Cache Killer will:
- maximize hard disk space by eliminating the hundreds of
individual cache files that browsers leave behind
- vastly improve browser stability by eliminating the overhead
required to internally track the numerous cache files
- enhance system performance by reducing the number of files
the operating system must track in its desktop databases
Cache Killer Pro II includes significant improvements from the
original Cache Killer Pro:
- cache deletion is more than ten times faster
- displays an informative progress window during deletion
- easier to setup and configure
- PowerPC native code
- does not require AppleScript
Cache Killer Pro II requires a Macintosh running System 7.1.3 or
later. It is fully compatible with MacOS 8.5.
Cache Killer Pro II is shareware and costs US$14.00 for a single-user
license. Cache Killer Pro 1.x users may upgrade for US$10.00. A
standard site license costs US$280.00. Other specialized bulk
purchase options (such as a world-wide site license or an educational
site license) are also available. For more information, send e-mail

Subject: CacheSaver 1.0.2
This is an update to CacheSaver, a shareware control panel designed to
periodically flush the Mac's disk cache to minimize data loss when your Mac
crashes. This release fixes display problems on small-format Mac screens
(Plus, SE, SE/30, and Classic models).
Like many people, you've probably found that increasing the size of the
disk cache in the Memory control panel can improve the performance of many
applications, especially web browsers like Netscape Navigator. The disk
cache speeds up disk input and output by keeping the contents of files in
RAM, rather than immediately reading or writing them on the disk.
The problem with using a large disk cache is that when you save
information, the data may end up staying in the cache for quite a while
before it really gets written to your hard disk. If your Mac crashes
before the cache gets saved, your data is lost.
CacheSaver addresses this problem by periodically saving (or "flushing")
the disk cache, thus minimizing data loss should your Macintosh crash while
you are working. You can set CacheSaver to flush the cache whenever your
Mac is idle for more than a specific amount of time, or it can do it
automatically at regular intervals. CacheSaver also provides a hotkey so
you can flush the disk cache manually.

Subject: Cascade Light 1.0 - Cascading Style Sheets Designer
Cascade Light 1.0
Cascade Light is a comprehensive Cascading Style Sheets designer for Web
authors. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) give Web designers better control
over presentation style, makes website management more efficient and leads
to a more adaptable and accessible web. A Cascading Style Sheet can set
fonts, colors, white space and other layout aspects of an HTML document in
an efficient and flexible manner. CSS is a style sheet standard developed
by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and is supported by web browsers
such as Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer.
Cascade Light provides a dialog on the Mac to define any style setting that
can be expressed in CSS. Cascade can even automatically apply a Cascading
Style Sheet to an HTML document in such a way that the style sheet is
emulated for older browsers that don't support CSS. Thus webmasters can
benefit from Cascading Style Sheets now and still maintain the design for
older browsers.
Cascade Light works on both PPC and 68K Macs with System 7.0 or later and
2.9 Mb free RAM. More information about Cascade Light is available from:
http://interaction.in-progress.com/cascade
[ The application has been uploaded to the FTP site. It should go in the
Internet/HTML folder, eventually with a copy in the Internet/WWW folder.
Cascade Light can be included in the CD-ROM distribution (contact me for

Subject: ChatNetv2.1
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 9, 1998
CONTACT: Mitchell Martin (mailto:[email protected])
ChatNet v2.1 Adds Numerous IRC Enhancements
Gainesville, Fla. -- ELS, Inc. has announced the release of ChatNet v2.1
which features numerous Internet Relay Chat enhancements. ChatNet
enhancements include total compatibility with Mac OS 8.x, a simple
interface for sending and receiving WAV sounds, and display of all text
colors supported by IRC. Many new IRC preference options have been added
including the ability to enter and remember logoff, quit, finger, and
Userinfo messages. A new updated IRC Servers list is provided for easy
access to the most popular IRC networks. DCC file transfer problems have
been corrected.
Since ChatNet's initial release in 1995, there have been many Macintosh
IRC client competitors that have tried to enter this very popular market,
but ChatNet remains the simplest Macintosh interface to chat and send
files on the Internet or a Local Area Network. ChatNet is the only IRC
client with ChatGuardian(tm) and ChatWatcher(tm) built-in and the only
client that does not require a user to know any IRC commands.
ChatNet offers two modes for chat. The IRC Mode allows chat and file
transfer through an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) Server. ChatNet acts as a
client program providing a button oriented graphical interface for all
IRC functions. There is no need to know any IRC commands. The AppleTalk
Mode allows multiple Macintosh computers running ChatNet to chat or send
files on a Local Area Network, with or without a Server.
ChatNet's simple interface will be familiar to anyone who has used major
online services and quickly learned by those who haven't experienced
network communications. Users interact via public and private
conferences, send private messages, and transfer files to each other.
ChatNet provides security and control over the entire Chat environment to
address concerns about material unsuitable for children. ChatGuardian and
ChatWatcher preference settings give complete control over the ChatNet
environment from completely open to very restrictive. ChatGuardian gives
you control over channel access and message content by screening out
words and phrases that are preselected. ChatWatcher keeps a log of all
user activity. IRC Server access can also be controlled.
ChatNet is the perfect tool for homes, schools, businesses, and
departmental workgroups. Hold online group conferences or have onetoone
private communication. Workgroups can discuss project status, strategy,
and reach each other for questions and answers at the click of a button.
All communication can be saved or printed for later reference.
System Requirements:
ChatNet requires any Macintosh computer running System 7.x to 8.x.
ChatNet is a fat binary application that is Accelerated for Power
Macintosh computers. RAM memory of 900K is recommended with a minimum
setting of 750K. Disk space of 2 Megabytes should be available for the
application and support files.
For IRC Mode (Internet Relay Chat) you must have access to the Internet
through a direct Internet connection or a SLIP or PPP connection through
an Internet service provider (check your local phone directory for
Internet service providers in your area). Your Macintosh must also have
MacTCP or Open Transport network driver installed.
For AppleTalk Mode, a network must be LocalTalk or EtherTalk compatible,
and AppleTalk must be set to active in Chooser. There must be other
computers running ChatNet on your network for you to chat or send files.
What's Included:
The ChatNet Installer application will install ChatNet and all its
support files to your hard drive. The ChatNet User's Manual provides
detailed information for proper installation and describes all of
ChatNet's many features in a simple to read format. The ChatNet
Registration is a form you can mail or fax to register your copy of
ChatNet to receive authorization information for unlimited use. You can
also register for ChatNet online using ELS, Inc.'s secure registration
form at their web site listed below.
Support on the World Wide Web:
Visit the ELS, Inc. web site http://www.elsinc.com/ for the latest
ChatNet information, to download the most up-to-date version, to register
ChatNet online, or just to provide feedback or ask questions.

2. Supports background downloading, so you can read and compose
messages while the software is transferring messages.
3. Resizable, colored, scrolling windows, and different color "quoted"
text. The colors are user-settable.
4. Automatic routing of incoming messages to different folders based
on content. This allows you to, say, send all mailing list
messages to one folder, and all "get rich quick" messages to
another!
5. Automatically play a custom sound when new mail hits a folder.
6. Indefinite message retention. You can keep all messages forever, or
expire messages as desired.
7. Address book to store frequently used addresses.
8. Tagline capability to store your favorite signature lines.
9. Form letters feature allows you to write standardized messages that
have wildcards for certain information, such as logonid, name,
date, time, your name, etc. When you choose a form to send to a
user, it automatically fills in these wildcards with the
appropriate information. Use this feature to send standardized
information with a "custom-built" look.
10. Carbon copies, blind carbon copies, and "message received"
acknowledgements.
11. Can use either MacTCP for an Internet connection, or the Apple
Modem Tool with the comm toolbox to use a "shell" account. In
addition, multiple people can share the same Internet logonid over
an AppleTalk network, if desired.
12. "Automatic Replies" feature that allows you to automatically
respond to incoming e-mail with certain phrases in the subject
line. With this feature, you can set up Cindy's Newsmailer to
be an "information server", even if you have a dial-up account.
13. New "voice mail" capability via the use of helper apps such as
"SndConverter Pro" or "RealAudio".
14. "Plug-in" technology allows you to specify custom programs to run
on incoming messages. Included with the product is a "voice mail"

messages.
Try it, you'll like it! Requires HyperCard Player 2.1 or higher.

Subject: Cohiba 1.0 -- Making Life with NetWare a Little Easier
*Cohiba is a control panel designed to make your life easier if you must
live, as I do, within the bounds of a NetWare universe. Basically, *Cohiba
allows you to log into a Netware Directory Services (NDS) tree during
bootup. "What's so great about that?" you may ask. Well, with *Cohiba
installed you will be able to put aliases of items found on NetWare
fileservers inside your Startup Items folder and have them resolved for you
automatically every time you boot your Mac up!
In fact, *Cohiba has been found to be useful in the following sorts of
situations:
1. You (or a client) would like to have NetWare behave more like the way
AppleShare can (i.e., log into a server automatically during bootup).
2. You have a kiosk Macintosh which should log into a NetWare fileserver
without human intervention.
3. A public access lab Macintosh should log into a NetWare fileserver
automatically as part of your administrative schema.
*Cohiba requires that you have the Novell Client for the Macintosh (version
5.1 or greater) already installed on your Macintosh. (The NW Client
Installer is avaiable free from Novell.) *Cohiba's Mac OS requirements are
the same as the NetWare Client for the Macintosh's. *Cohiba must load
after the MacIPX control panel (if you do not change *Cohiba's name, this
will happen automatically).
*Cohiba is nothing-says-thank-you-better-than-beer-ware. If you find
*Cohiba useful, and you would like to let me know in a tangible way, please
send me some of your favorite local, microbrewed beer. It should be sent

Subject: Combadge 1.1
Combadge is a real time email companion, perhaps best described as a cross
between a talk, chat and email. Combadge will let you chat in real time
with other Combadge users without needing to know where they are - you
simply use their email address and Combadge finds them. If they are not
running Combadge, then Combadge will send your message to them using email
so you do not even need to know if they have Combadge.
Version 1.1 uses your email client to send offline messages instead of
handling email sending internally.
Features
* Easy User Interface.
* Real time chatting if both parties have Combadge.
* Email messages if they do not have Combadge.
* Connect using email address.
* Log conversations to email.
* Automatic configuration.
* Answering machine facility.
Combadge requires a Macintosh with Internet connectivity.
Combadge is US$25 shareware. Site and organisation-wide licenses are also
available for US$500 and US$2000 respectively.

Subject: CombiStat 1.1
CombiStat is a programme that performs two useful mathematical procedures
involving standard errors of the mean (SEM). Its main use is for combining
several Mean +/- SEM values into an overall Mean +/- SEM. This is a frequent
requirement for researchers repeating an experiment several times, each time
obtaining a Mean +/- SEM for the parameter(s) under study. Additionally, in
version 1.1 the programme will calculate the SEM and standard deviation of
both the ratio (X1/X2) and the product (X1*X2) of two independent variables,
X1 and X2, each having an associated SEM. For more information see the
accompanying Read me file.
CombiStat should run on any Mac and has been tested with System 7.6.1 and 7.5.3
The programme is freeware.

Subject: Co-motion 1.9.1
Co-motion energizes collaboration as participants brainstorm and evaluate
ideas in a real-time session over the Internet or any TCP/IP network.
Idea generation, annotation, and evaluation tools focus your group.
Results are instantly organized by generating a variety of reports that
summarize the interaction and separate the good from bad ideas based on
the votes of participants.
Other features include private and public chatting as well as tools for
finding, listing, and sorting the ideas in a shared, live document called
a session. Host as many sessions as you can handle, with as many
participants as you want, when and wherever it's convenient.
Co-motion 1.9.1 is a fat binary for both 68K and PPC Macintoshes.
Requires OpenTransport or MacTCP, System 7 or better, 1M of available
memory, a hard disk, and a connection to a TCP/IP network like the Internet.
Shareware licensing $30: includes complete source code under GPL, Windows
version, box, install diskettes, manual.
We hope that you enjoy using Co-motion.

Subject: Control PPP 2.0
Control PPP is the original and best control strip module for all you road
warriors. It lets you connect or disconnect PPP and open the TCP and PPP
control panels. It also indicates whether PPP is open or not by a mere
glance at its icon, records the time you spend online, shows your IP
address and activity, and lets you switch between saved configurations.
It now works with all versions of MacPPP, FreePPP and OT/PPP available at
the time of writing, (including FreePPP 2.6 but excluding AOL link or AT&T
WorldNet, which use proprietary code).
Q: There are millions of PPP control strips: why use this one?
A: Because it:
* Combines the features of all the other control strips in one simple module.
* Unlike certain other control strip activity meters, this one works smoothly.
* Works with _all_ the current versions of PPP, even if you switch among them
without restarting.
* Is standalone and doesn't require any extensions, scripting additions,
installers
or similar baggage.
* Is carefully optimised to use as little CPU time as possible.
* Runs PowerPC native if you're using Extensions Strip 1.2 or greater.
* Monitors OT/PPP directly, using an efficient, asynchronous C interface, and
doesn't go blasting AppleEvents around your Mac every second, which is
what some others do.
New in Version 2.0:
* An activity meter so you can keep an eye on your PPP efficiency.
* It has a new menu which lets you switch between saved configurations
of OT/TCP, OT/PPP and FreePPP.
* Now shows the IP address of your Mac in the popup menu.
* Updated for compatibility with FreePPP 2.6 and OT/PPP.
* Auto-detects the relevant flavour of PPP, even if it is changed without
restarting.
* Fixed the bug whereby FreePPP 2.5 with MacTCP would only connect once.
Control PPP is shareware and costs $10 if you use it for more than 30 days.

Subject: Cookie's Revenge v1.0
Cookie's Revenge
Version 1.0 1997 by Tom Harrington ([email protected])
>From the README:
Many web sites want to save "cookies" on your hard drive.
Many people don't like the idea of web sites using their hard drive to
save information. There are many ways to defeat cookies, including other
AppleScripts that delete the cookie file or sometimes just selected
entries from the file. But where's the fun in that?
Cookie's Revenge opens your cookie file and replaces the cookie data
with subtly bogus information. Superficially it will look like all data
is intact, but the information has been scrambled and rendered useless.
Sites will think that they're tracking you when in fact they're only
tracking random data.
Currently Cookie's Revenge works only with Netscape Navigator. It
should work with any version of Navigator. An Internet Explorer version
may be forthcoming, if I ever get around to installing the program.

Subject: CTCPNetwork 1.0; Asynchronous MacTCP Class
1995 Hiroshi Lockheimer
CTCPNetwork is a minimalist's approach to asynchronous MacTCP connections.
I've stolen many of CTCPNetwork's ideas from various code floating around
the net, namely: PowerTCP by Dmitry Boldyrev, the NewsWatcher source by
John Norstad, and Peter Lewis' stuff in Pascal. CTCPNetwork is quite
similar to PowerTCP, but one of my objectives in writing CTCPNetwork was to
improve on the error handling.
You are free to use CTCPNetwork, no strings attached, although I would
appreciate some credit in your about box or wherever appropriate. Oh, and
CTCPNetwork is most likely NOT bug free. :-) Use at your own risk.
Anyway, please send bugs/comments/whatever to:

Subject: CURLPushButton 2.4 - a PowerPlant class
A Metrowerks PowerPlant inherited class geared towards helping your
application
become Internet-savvy. It allows you to put clickable buttons in places
(e.g.
your About box) that will look like a URL in a web browser...click on the
URL
and go right to there! Great for listing the web page for your software,
the email address for contact/support, the ftp site where users can get
updates or whatever you want! You list the text, they can see it, copy it
down, whatever... and then just click and visit it. VERY HANDY!! VERY
COOL!!
The class is even set up that the text of the button can say one thing but
then still visit the URL. For example, the About Box displays your name
and you click on it and it visits your personal web page or something.
Point
is, the button can list the URL text or not...it's a flexible class.
There is a demonstration application included in the archive to help you
see how it works as well as help and tips for implimentation. Furthermore
there is a CTYP file that you can use to aid in the editing process
(for use with Metrowerks Constructor).
For complete information, please read the README file enclosed in the
archive.

CyberViewer is an extension for Netscape Navigator that keeps a visual
history of visited web pages. It displays a floating palette of visited
pages, either as thumbnails or a text list. Unlike Netscape's history,
entries don't disappear when Navigator is quit, aren't removed by going
"back" or closing a browser window, and can be saved for a specified
number of days, so the user can easily go back and find the address of a
visited page.
Palette entries can be double-clicked or dragged to an open browser

In addition, CyberViewer can be configured to alert the user when web
pages are done loading by playing a user-specified sound.

"Dan's InterSLIP Scripts" is a freeware package containing various
InterSLIP scripts and detailed step-by-step installation instructions.
The "Generic Modem Driver" script fully supports just about any type
of modem. It recognizes the basic extended result codes and will
redial when a busy signal or carrier drop occurs. It is far superior
to InterSLIP's built-in "Hayes Compatible" setting. The instructions
include recommended initialization commands for many modem models.
The "Generic Gateway" script fully supports a number of SL/IP hosts,
including The Internet Adapter (TIA). It will catch carrier drops
that occur during the sign-on process, and it properly obtains and
sets the IP address assigned by the host.

DownLog is available as a stand-alone application or as a logging extension/reader application combination. Either way DownLog lets you know where you got what you did. To use DownLog simply drop the DownLog extension onto your system folder or in the extensions folder and restart. (Upon restart DownLog may request you locate your browser.) Most importantly, is freeware!

Subject: Dto-loa 2.0
Dot-loa 2.0 brings powerful new features and enhanced usability to the
Macintosh version of America Online's software.
To very briefly describe its highlight features, with Dot-loa you can:
* Log on to AOL while AOL is running in the background
* Run an "Automatic AOL" session with AOL in the background
* (New to 2.0) Have AOL continue to redial indefinitely until it connects
* (New to 2.0) Precisely schedule Auto-AOL sessions with a variety of options
* (New to 2.0) Run scheduled Auto-AOL sessions with AOL in the background
* (New to 2.0) Have Dot-loa notify you when new e-mail has been retrieved
from AOL
None of these things are possible with the AOL software itself. Normally,
while the AOL software is going through the process of dialing your modem,
connecting and signing you on, you are "stuck" in AOL. You can't switch to
another application until AOL has completed the connection process. (And this
is often a painfully long time.) Likewise, when AOL runs a scheduled Auto-AOL
session, it begins by "forcing" its way to the front. If you're trying to use
your Mac for something else at that moment, too bad; you'll have to wait for
AOL to finish connecting before you can switch it to the background.
With Dot-loa you don't have to stare endlessly at AOL's useless "progress"
screen, waiting for AOL to connect so you can get on with your life. You can
"Do Other Things" -- working productively in some other application,
blissfully unconcerned about how long it's taking AOL to connect. When AOL
does connect, Dot-loa will notify you with a beep and a flashing icon in the
menu bar. If AOL isn't running when you activate Dot-loa, Dot-loa will launch
it for you.
The new scheduling and e-mail notification features of Dot-loa will be
particularly attractive to those who depend on AOL for their e-mail service.
Dot-loa brings to AOL some of the most useful features of dedicated e-mail
applications such as Eudora. You can set Dot-loa to run Auto-AOL sessions
that check your e-mail at precisely controlled times or intervals, and have
it notify you if new mail has arrived. AOL remains in the background, so you
don't even have to look at AOL, much less have it "take over" your Mac for
some indeterminate length of time, until it has successfully downloaded new
mail for you. Dot-loa can then notify you of the new mail with either a small
floating window, or a flashing icon in the menu bar.

all the different macros:
DM: This will download batches of files (.sit, .hqx, .bin) in Netscape
2.x or 3.x.
DM Enforced: A version of DM that can download all file types, but does
not map it to it's corresponding helper application.
DM Enforced Sequential: A version of DM Enforced that downloads a series
of related files, which then renames them to whatever you want, followed
by a dot and the download number. For instance, header.1, header.2,
header.3.
DM Enforced Sequential Reverse: Same as the previous but the numbers go
backwards starting from a specified number.
MSIE Downloader: A Download Macro that will download any type of file
using Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 3.0.1 or 4.0p1, but does not
route it to it's corresponding helper application. This macro took me a
while to complete, as it required a completely different approach than
the Netscape versions.
Hotline DL: If you can't download from a Hotline site because the
maximum number of simultaneous downloads are taking place, this macro
will consistantly try for you until it works.
Hotline Resume DL: Same as previous, but for any file you want to
resume.
Delete Cache: Deletes the cache for Netscape, MSIE, and the America
Online web browser all at once.
Requires:
Netscape 2.x or 3.x, MSIE 3.0.1 or 4.0p1, Hotline 1.1b21 (respectively)

Funny you should say that I was going to send it to you anyway. :-) I
didn't include the ACI one simply because this one does more. The ACI one
used a default box size when you were dragging and could only handle I
think 10 active drop areas. This one has two commands one draggs the text
wiht a default box the other takes the dimentions of the drag box as
parameters and doesn't have a maximun limit. The package includes some more
stuff as well.

Subject: Easy View 2.6 source code
A number of people have asked about the status of Easy View, Akif Eyler's
popular text viewing utility. Akif hasn't worked on it in years, so I asked
him about putting it in the public domain for any programmer to update. He
agreed, and sent the enclosed archive along with the note below.
Although I don't have the time to do this personally, I'd encourage
interested programmers to communicate with one another and perhaps share
code to create a single version that would cut down on the kind of
confusion we had with the various MacPPP variants.
cheers... -Adam
---
After moving to Marmara University in Istanbul, I haven't had any time to
support or develop Easy View any longer. Upon a suggestion from Adam Engst,
I decided to publish the source code, open to further modifications. Since
independent future developments are possible, I suggest adding a single
letter before version number, such as "Easy View A2.70" or "Easy View

Easy View was written in Object Pascal and it requires MacApp 2.x. Easy

Subject: Eco PPP
Hi there!
I just wanted to submit to your sagacity an Applescript applet that
I wrote a month ago to fix what might be known as a Mac PPP "bug or
feature". It seems that lots of Mac PPP users sometimes have auto initiated
PPP connections, which can be painful if you're out for the day (and if
your IP provider charges a lot for extra hours).
So instead of trying to find out the reason (I am an as
enthusisatic Mac
user than a poor programmer), I wrote an applet, thinking also of people
who need regular reminders to keep their dialup IP bill acceptable.
This freeware "PPP watchdog" applet is called Eco PPP. It is aimed
to monitor unexpected or too long PPP connections, and is provided with all
necessary osaxen (I got written permission from their authors). It relies
on an alert dialog popping up after a selectable PPP open timeout: hence
the user can choose between closing PPP, dismissing until next time, or
choose a delay before next alert. But if nobody's here (case of an
"unexpected" connection), Eco PPP performs a PPP (hard) close itself,
updates a log, and opens it for you to be aware of what went on in your
back while you return to your machine.
Eco PPP is open, which means it is editable, configurable, and
quite commented, hence useful for learning from sample code.
Eco PPP has been uploaded on eWorld as on the AppleScript archive site:
ftp://gaea.kgs.ukans.edu/applescript/scripts/EcoPPP.sit.hqx
May you find here enclosed a copy of Eco PPP, case you'd like to review it
or simply upload it on info-mac and umich.
Best regards from France,
Phil

Carnation Software releases Email Checker 2.5.5
with support for Bare Bones Software's Mailsmith email program.
Email Checker checks your email at specified time intervals using your
email program, AppleScript and OpenTransport/PPP. Email programs
supported
are: Claris Emailer and Claris Emailer Lite, Eudora, Eudora Pro or Eudora
Light, Mailsmith and Outlook Express.
Email Checker will keep a running total of the hours you spend online and
automatically reset the hours to zero each month at the beginning of your
billing cycle.
It will even work if another application makes the PPP connection for you
(as long as Email Checker is running).
Works with System 7 as well as OS 8.
Flexible options let you check mail at a specified time interval in
different ways:
1. Connect to the Internet, get mail and then hang up.
2. Connect to the Internet, get mail and don't hang up.
3. Get mail only when already connected to the Internet.
4. Get mail when your Mac starts up and continue checking for mail
throughout the day.
If you choose to automatically connect when checking for mail, PPP will
dial and connect in the background so you can continue working. Easy to

E-Mail->Echo re-routes incoming netmail for designated users into certain
echoes that you specify. My main purpose for creating this utility was to
provide access to messages coming from an InterNet mailing list, into a typical
echo format. Combining the functionality of E-Mail->Echo with the Echo->E-Mail
function of Testify (another of my Tabby-compatible utilities) allows users to
see all incoming messages and post replies without actually belonging to the
mailing list. Isn't that neat?

Email Effects is a program for getting the most out of email. With it,
you can send pictures, drawings and tables with simple plain text. It is
also the world's premier ASCII art creator and great for creating vivid
comments in source code.
Email Effects converts pictures or tables instantly to text, can create
text using standard Figlet fonts or exploded "big text" using fonts on
your computer, allows drawing freehand, with lines, circles rectangles
and much more! Email Effects works directly with Eudora, Emailer, or
Outlook Express. Clip art and full help is included.
Version 1.6 adds Figlet supports, has many interface improvements and
automatically calculates the best characters to use for picture
conversion.

Fellow Mac enthusiasts,
This is a little AppleScript that I wrote that will allow you to
auto-send one or more files to a pre-determined e-mail address (or
distribution list, if you have an Eudora nickname for it).
Simply duplicate the drag-on script, rename the copy to the
recipient's e-mail address or nickname and voila! Drag-and-drop auto-send
of as many files as you want!
Feel free to re-use this script in your own, and if you think they
are good enough, post them! (and send me a copy...)

Subject: eudora-batch-find-101.hqx
this is a small update to Eudora Batch Find, a little utility written in
AppleScript that offers batch search for the email program Eudora (versions
1.5 and above). It lets you search for a string within a subset or all of
your mailboxes in one go and will display all matches in a list. A click on
a match will then show the start of the message, open that message's window
in Eudora or create a new message with a reply.
Note that you need to install some Scripting Additions before you can run
this AppleScript (apart from the one included); a html file with download
addresses is part of the distribution. All the necessary Scripting
Additions are free. They are: Dialog Director v0.7, Jon's Commands and GTQ
Library (from which only the Sort command is needed).
This utility is free; AppleScript source is included (as text file).
What's new in version 1.0.1 (changes since version 1.0)
- The package also includes a version that should run on System 7.0. It
doesn't show its dialogs floating above all Eudora windows; if you prefer
it this way, you can run this version under Systems later than 7.0.
- For the AppleScript versions with floating dialogs: it's now possible to
close the Batch Find application even when its dialogs are no longer
visible because Eudora is not open anymore (or when the Batch Find
application is in front while its dialogs are displayed above Eudora's
windows). Just press Command-Period to close Batch Find. If you have Eudora
3.1 or later, you can use the plug-in "Quit Batch Find" included in this
archive.
- The AppleScripts applications are now compiled as read-only, which has
several advantages:
- less memory required to run (500 KB on 68k Macs, 600 KB for Power Macs)
- closing the script is much faster
- opening seems to be slightly faster as well
- file sizes are much smaller (about 60 KB)
- The "Reply" button in the result dialog will now close the message that
is replied to if its window was open.
- Since AppleScript stores global variables in the script file itself,
antivirus programs might be triggered if they note changed file size or
modification date after you run Batch Find. This is now mentioned in the
documentation.
- Several small changes (see beginning of the file "Read Me First" for a
complete list).
The size of the archive is 198 KB (StuffIt archive). It contains the
following documents and folders:
Read Me First
Batch Find Manual
Technical Information
Lab set-up for multiple users
Download links.html
Quit Batch Find
Batch Find application, a folder containing:
Batch Find
Batch Find Sys 7.0
Batch Find Sys 7.1
Batch Find OSAX, a folder containing:
Batch Find OSAX.68k
Batch Find OSAX.PPC
Batch Find scripts as text, a folder containing:
Batch Find Sys 7.0.txt
Batch Find Sys 7.1.txt
Batch Find.txt
This should replace the earlier version 1.0 in the Eudora subfolder of the
info-mac archive,
comm/inet/mail/edr
and it should be called "eudora-batch-find-101.hqx"
All files were checked for viruses with Virex 5.8.1 (definition file of
29/7/98); no virus infections were found.

Eudora-macc (multiple account) AppleScript script, version 2.0
by Vlad Enache
last updated January 30, 1997
# What it is
This script automates the task of checking multiple e-mail accounts with
Eudora through a PPP connection. It can also randomize the quote at the end
of your Eudora signature.
If you don't use Eudora, you don't need it. If you have only one e-mail
account, you might still want to use it, because it automates the whole
process of:
- picking a quote randomly from a folder and appending it to your signature,
- launching Eudora with the desired settings,
- opening the PPP connection (using any PPP settings set defined in
"Configure PPP"),
- sending any queued mail,
- getting the mail from your POP account(s),
- closing the PPP connection, and after that
- telling Eudora to filter the received mail.
It uses the minimum amount of on-line time needed, thus saving you money.
It's also very handy to put an alias to it into the Startup Items folder,
so that your computer will automatically check your mail whenever switched
on. It can even connect and check your mail every x minutes, if you wish.

This script uses AppleScript lists and Eudora to auto-reply to mail
messages. It is very useful when a whole lot of people ask you for the same
file over and over again, such as when you posted a distribution offer on
USENET.
Running the script for the first time will allow you to select the
file(s) and subject(s) to match, which will be remembered thereafter.
The only way to make the script "forget" theses properties is to
re-compile it (with the script editor), so it is advised to always work
with a copy of the "virgin" script.

Subject: Eudora Thing 1.6
The popular quote coloring utility has had its internals rewritten once
again to provide for the two most asked for features:
- The ability to add your own quote characters.
and
- Smart quote level detection that ignores extra spaces.
For those of you that don't know what Eudora thing is...
Eudora Thing is a System Extension that watches the way the Eudora mail
application draws its text, and when it sees an a quote character
(>, :, |, ), or any user defined character) it colorizes that line of
text. It also weaves around colored text and URLs (and spelling errors
in Eudora 4.1).
But doesn't 4.1 do that already?
Eudora 4.1 introduces colorized quotes, but they only use one color to
colorize all levels of quotes. Eudora Thing will colorize up to six levels
of quotes with different colors, and uses characters other than ">".
Eudora Thing also works on all versions of Eudora and Eudora Lite.

Subject: Eudora Wacked Sounds 1.0
What is this? Well, this is a package of 19 sounds in the form of a Eudora
plug-in from the Wacked Sounds creator. It can be used to play sounds for
specific events in Eudora as programmed in the filters option. It also
includes a little tutorial for those who have no idea how to do so. And
includes a normal sys7 sound for editor savvy folk to play with. This is
free but not public domain. It is copyrighted to me. If someone plays
with the sound and would like to ship it, they may if I receive
notification and credit. Any EMail great in any case.
And blah, blah, blah. Just read the ReadMe. This may be uploaded anywhere
and included on any CD-Rom as long as the package is intact w/the ReadMe.

Subject: FavoritesfromBookmarks
Do you ever wish that your Internet Explorer favorites were the same as your
Netscape bookmarks? I did. I usually run Netscape Navigator but occasionally
use MS Internet Explorer but didn't have the bookmarks available that I was
accustomed to using.
Running this Applescript will replace your Internet Explorer "Favorites" file with
your Netscape Navigator "Bookmarks" file on your hard drive. When started, it
gives you a choice to backup your old favorites file or delete it. Backups
are given a random number filename and stored in a newly created folder,
"Backups of Favorites."
The next time you start Internet Explorer, it will recognize this new
Favorites file and convert it to its own format. All the Netscape bookmarks,
including folders, remain intact. Explorer 4.0 adds its own formatting and
icons automatically.
Software and Hardware Requirements: Internet Explorer 3 (or above); Netscape
Navigator 3 (or above); Applescript extension; System 7 (or higher); and any
Mac that can run the above software.

Why would you use Find In Files? Here's an example: Suppose you have a

need. You could open every one of the files and search them by hand, or
use Find In Files to search for you. Simply enter some key words in the

I wanted to move my AT&T Worldnet account from FreePPP to OT/PPP,

configures the account and password info for FreePPP and never
tells you what they are. I spent an afternoon playing with the
FreePPP Preferences file, figuring out how to decrypt the password
info, and whipped up this little program, which will display all
of your FreePPP accounts and passwords. Useful if you want to move
accounts to a different computer, merge accounts, or switch to
something other than FreePPP (OT/PPP works great, by the way, and
seems a little faster).

Subject FreeTerm 2.0 now available
This posting contains FreeTerm 2.0, a "dumb" glass-TTY emulator
that supports XMODEM and MacBinary II. Full documentation is included
in this Packit III package.
Basic features and improvements over FreeTerm 1.8
- FreeTerm 1.8 was limited to operation at speeds <= 2400 baud, which
limited its usefulness to dial-up connections. FreeTerm 2.0
supports connections at 4800, 9600, 19200, and 57600 as well; it
uses XOFF/XON flow control to prevent buffer overruns at high line
speeds [this feature can be disabled].
- FreeTerm 2.0 supports the new extensions to the MacBinary file-
encoding standard, as described in a document posted several
weeks ago.
- FreeTerm 2.0 is capable of unpacking any file that was packed by
PackIt I, II, or III, or any other utility that produces a
packed/compressed file in PackIt format.
- FreeTerm 2.0's window can be resized (24*80 down to 4*15).
- FreeTerm 2.0 remembers the most recent 20 full 24*80 screens;
you can scroll back through the saved lines in the usual fashion.
- You can send all 128 ASCII characters (and "break").
- "Fast-track" XMODEM is supported, for those of you who use
Compu$erve and have clean, error-free transmission lines.
FreeTerm 2.0 is still free, as its name implies... noncommercial
distribution is encouraged; commercial distribution is prohibited
without written permission of Dreams of the Phoenix, Inc. FreeTerm
2.0 is copyright 1987 by William Bond; portions are copyright
1986 by THINK Technologies, Inc. (which gives you a pretty good
idea of the development system that was used ;-)

Gebhrenrechner 3.1
Der Gebhrenrechner ist ein Programm zur Berechnung des gnstigsten Anbieters
bei Call by Call Verbindungen.
Dieses Programm arbeitet als selbststndiges Programm. Sie bentigen keine
zustzlichen Datenbankapplikationen.
hinzugekommen. Damit hat man alle wichtigen Telefonpartner im direkten
Zugriff. Einfacher geht es (fasst) nicht. auch sonst habe ich einige kleine
Ergnzungen vorgenommen, deren Aufzhlung hier zu weit ginge.

URL", will load the page automatically like the original did with MacWeb.
This will only work with version 1.1 or higher of Netscape, so if you are
using an older version stick with GetURL/Netscape.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Get/URL extensions, they allow you to
command-click (in EasyView) or select a menu option (BBEdit) and have the
URL opened in the proper application, as in NewsWatcher and the latest NCSA
Telnet.

To install the "GetURL Pro" extension, place it into your "BBEdit
Extensions" folder and restart (or launch) BBEdit. "GetURL" will appear now
in the BBEdit's "Extensions" menu.
GetURL Pro 1.0
--------------
"Uniform Resource Locators" (URLs) are standard notation on the Internet
for identifying the locations of files and various other resources.
To use the "GetURL Pro" extension, select a portion of text containing a
URL, then choose "GetURL" from the "Extensions" menu.
You'll be asked to select an application (or helper) to open the URL.
The application will be launched (or switched to, if currently running) and
the URL (if valid) will be opened.
"GetURL Pro" remembers which helper program you've selected last, so you
need to select an application only once. However, if you wish to change the
helper program to a different one, simply choose "Get URL" from the
"Extensions" menu while holding the "option" key down.
You can also use the "Set Keys..." option in the "Extensions" menu to
assign extension keys to "GetURL" so that any URL is just a short keystroke
away.
"GetURL Pro" requires System 7 and relies on the standard Apple event suite
for Uniform Resource Locators which is now supported by most Macintosh
TCP/IP networking programs (e.g.: Anarchie, Mosaic Netscape, NewsWatcher,
MacWeb, etc.)
"GetURL Pro" is free. There is no shareware fee.
Enjoy!

The new version fixes a problem that surfaced with MacOS 8.
The program is free. Support is partial. The file has been checked using
Disinfectant 3.7.1. I would greatly appreciate if you could make this file
available on your Mac archive. Thanks.
This is what G*Power does:
G*Power performs high-precision statistical power analyses for the most
common statistical tests in behavioral research, that is, t-tests, F-tests,
and Chi^2-tests.
G*Power computes
(a) power values for given sample sizes, effect sizes
and alpha levels (post hoc power analyses),
(b) sample sizes for given effect sizes, alpha levels,
and power values (a priori power analyses), and
(c) alpha and beta values for given sample sizes,
effect sizes and beta/alpha ratios (compromise power analyses).
The program may be used to display graphically the relation between any two
of the relevant variables and it offers the opportunity to compute the
effect size measures from basic parameters defining the alternative
hypothesis.

Grail is an amazing little web browser programmed in Python. It's a little
slow in displaying tables, but is otherwise very much like Netscape 3 or
Mosaic. Being in Python, it can be modified by anyone knowing Python.

Subject: Guest Lister 1.2
Guest Lister is the fastest, most efficient way to find out about all
those shared volumes of useful stuff out there on your AppleTalk network
with GUEST access.
It's a HyperCard stack and uses some of the Rinaldi externals. Requires
HyperCard 2 or later, the player is fine.
When launched, it builds a zone list. Click a zone and it builds a list
of servers with guest access enabled, then it builds a list of all
volumes on those guest access servers.
A single click on a volume in the list will mount that volume (very
quickly).
For determined surfers there is a Report feature that can (if you really
want) write a text file containing a list of all files on all guest
access servers in a given zone. You can also choose to just get a folder
list, or just to go 1 level deep. (That's enough to get an idea of what's
out there).
You may also want to get hold of "AppleShare Control" which lets you turn
off those pesky server welcome dialogs that some people enable. It's in
comm/atlk/ on Info-Mac.
Have fun.

Subject: gURLfriend 2.0 (bookmark utility)
What is gURLfriend?
gURLfriend is a utility that will parse your Netscape or Internet Explorer
bookmarks files into a format that is more convenient to post on to a web
site. Your browser's bookmark file contains much more information than
you would expect. Besides the bookmark's name and URL information such as
the date the bookmark was last visited, the day it was added to your list
and comments you may have added. This extra information almost doubles the
size of the bookmarks file and is removed by gURLfriend. The gURLfriend
application also searches through your bookmarks list and indexes all the
bookmark folder names and creates a table of contents. This table of
contents greatly speeds up access to your online bookmarks since you can
quickly jump to the folder you are interested in without having to
transfer the bookmark information for the URLs you are not interested in.
Why would I want to use gURLfriend?
If you are like me you put a copy of your bookmarks list on your home
page. By using gURLfriend you will significantly decrease the total size
of this information and also make it easier to use. My bookmarks file size
went from 97K to 56K after running it through gURLfriend. It is also
indexed which makes it easier to use. A parsed bookmarks file takes much
less time to transfer when posted on your page.
Most importantly, if you break the folders into separate files, the time
the is required to access a particular bookmark is significantly reduced.
The table of contents file is a fraction of the total size of your
bookmark information. Mine for example is 3K.
Also, gURLfriend strips all information except the URL, its name and the
comments if you allow them to be kept. All other information is removed
which not only reduces the file size, it also removes possibly sensitive
information that you might not want posted to the net.
