Afirmation speaker uses apple's plaintalk technology to speak
affirmations. You must have apple's speech control panel and the speech
manager extension installed. You can speak one random by clicking in
AF's window. You can speak all the affirmations in the list (about 200)
randomly using the menu, or you can speak them all in order. This is my
first shareware program for the mac and I just want to see if there's
any interest and I should keep working on this.

Subject: Alpha Text Editor 7.2
This is version 7.2 of Alpha, a completely customizable and programmable
text editor especially tuned to handle source code, LaTeX, and HTML files.
Alpha is:
New features:
o new Latex, HTML, and Java modes
o expanded syntax coloring
o new modular reorganization of Tcl code
o One or two other enhancements and fixes.
And the standard blurb:
o Powerful. Alpha uses Dr. Ousterhout's Tool Command Language (Tcl) as a
scripting language. Tcl is rapidly becoming a popular extension language
over many different hardware platforms.
o Customizable. Any function or keystroke sequence can be bound to any key,
menus are completely user-specified and modifiable.
o Emacs-ish. Alpha supports many of the key bindings and central concepts
of GNU Emacs. It is not a port, however, and uses a Tcl instead of LISP
as an extension language.
o Multi-modal. Alpha supports mode-specific:
bindings
menus
keyword colorizing

Subject: Application Commander v1.1.0
Application Commander is an utility that takes advantage of Apples
Speech Recognition System in conjunction with the Application Switching
Manager to enable you to control and manage your running applications by
speaking some simple commands.
The Application Switching Manager is a public interface that several
third party utilities support. It is currently support by ClaireWare
Softwares Program Switcher and Binary Softwares PowerSwitch. For more
information on these programs, please visit one of the following web
pages:
http://www.kamprath.net/claireware/program_switcher.html
http://www.binarysoft.com/psmac/psmac.html
What is required?
Application Commander requires the following:
Apples Speech Recognition System v1.5 or later (comes with MacOS
8.5)
PowerPC processor
Program Switcher v4.4.0 or PowerSwitch v1.0.0 or later
MacOS 8.0 or later
How do I use it?
All you need to do is enable the Speech Recognition Manager in the Speech
control panel and then launch Application Commander. Application
Commander is a background only application, so there are no options or
other user interface to mess with. To cause Application Commander to do
something, all you have to do is say a command that Application Commander
recognizes and it will act on that command. Application Commander
recognizes the following commands:

Switch to the Last Application

Subject: BatteryAmnesia 1.5.2
BatteryAmnesia 1.5.2 for PowerBooks
Author's email address: [email protected]
BatteryAmnesia is a utility for any PowerBook that uses a nickel-cadmium
(NiCad) or nickel-hydride (NiMH) battery. Over time, these batteries are
susceptible to a "memory effect", which can reduce their battery capacity.
The memory effect can be cured by fully discharging the battery before
recharging it.
BatteryAmnesia provides a safe, fast and automatic way to deep discharge
your PowerBook's battery. BatteryAmnesia bypasses the low battery warning
dialogs, and prevents the "soft" sleep brought on by those dialogs.
Instead, BatteryAmnesia will run your PowerBook's battery down until the
"hard" hardware shutdown occurs, which is at a lower voltage. This
provides the best discharge possible without an expensive external battery
conditioner.
Version 1.5.2 contains the following enhancements:
- Fixes Mac OS 8 compatibility bug.
Shareware; $10 registration fee suggested. See enclosed docs for more
information.

Subject: BBEdit HTML TOC version 1.0
Most HTML markup extensions concentrate on the appearance of the document,
making it easy to add HTML tags to a text document. BBEdit HTML Tables,
which I released some time ago now is that sort of extension, simplifying
the construction of tables in HTML documents. This extension is different.
BBEdit HTML TOC is an extension for BBEdit which looks at the logical
construction of the document and makes it easier for you to introduce
logical markup. With HTML TOC you can easily create a table of contents for
any piece of text which has been marked up with headings.
It has a number of features to simplify this process including the ability
to set a cutoff point for heading levels that are included, automatic
insertion of the table of contents in either the document or clipboard,
support for relative links and the ability to build the table of contents
in sections rather than all at once.
BBEdit HTML TOC is able to detect the presence of an existing table of
contents and update, replace or add to it and it will reuse names that have
already been applied to parts of your document when appropriate.
BBEdit HTML TOC has been extensively tested on versions 3.5.2 and 4.0.1 of
BBEdit. It requires a version of BBEdit that supports extensions, which
means version 3.0 or later. This software is shareware, with the low fee of
US$5 payable directly or via Kagi. Please read the enclosed read me for
details.

Subject: Cameraid 1.1.2
Cameraid 1.1.2 (shareware, $15) is the all in one digital
photography utility program for the Macintosh. If you work with
JPEG images, you will probably find Cameraid useful.
Cameraid downloads images from Agfa, Apple (QT-200), Epson,
Fuji, Leica, Nikon, Olympus, Sanyo and Toshiba digital cameras.
Use any serial port, including third party solutions such as the
Keyspan SX Serial Card or their USB adapter (iMac and PowerMac
G3BW compatible) http://www.keyspan.com.
The viewer is the most convenient way to find out what exposure
time and aperture was used for taking a photo. Compatible with
almost all new digital cameras (including Kodak, Minolta, etc).
Cameraid can rotate and transform on JPEG images without
degrading the image quality.
Powerful batch operations can be used to copy files from flash
memory cards, automatically create simple HTML web pages, add
custom icons, rename files based on the date and time when the
photo was taken and much more.
Automatic enhancement filters enhance images with minimal user
interaction. What used to take hours of manual labor can now be
done in minutes using a single batch operation. A unique filter
can be used to reduce CCD image sensor and interlace artifacts.
Requires A Macintosh with a 68020 or better processor,
QuickTime, at least System 7 and 2MB of available RAM.
The unregistered shareware version is fully functional, but
includes built-in delays and registration reminders in some
operations. The $15 registration fee (payable through Kagi) will
eliminate the delays and make working with Cameraid faster and
smoother.

Canadian English Keyboard Layout
Apple has long neglected English-speaking Canadians. Every since the first

these problems cease once one has installed the Canadian English Keyboard
layout. The keys are arranged the same as the US layout, but the layout is
called Canadian English and its flag is the Canadian flag.

Subject: Capitalizer BBEdit Extension Source Code
What it is:
This is a little BBEdit extension that I wrote for myself, and I'm
giving it away for free! I used the sample extension called
"Capitalize" that came with BBEdit, and made it a little more flexible.
Now it will handle more capitalization chores.
What it does:
* Have you ever wanted to change a whole block of text from uppercase to
lowercase?
* Have you ever wanted to quickly change a title to an appropriate title case?
* Have you ever needed to uppercase a bunch of words at once?
Have you? And did you really want to re-type all that stuff yourself?
No?
Well then have I got an extension for you!
The Capitalizer will let you do all of that, and a little more!
Capitalizer is a utility that allows you to change the case of text in
a selection in various ways. You can change all selected text to:
* UPPER CASE
* lower case
* Title Case
* Sentence case.

Subject: caret-patch-10
"Ever lost sight of the little caret, the thin blinking vertical line used
to indicate where the next character you type in is going to show up on the
screen? If so, you might have experimented with the blinking rate to make
it more conspicuous. If that is not enough for you, this little system
extension could be helpful. It draws the caret with a line two or three
pixels wide instead of only one pixel, the system default.
This works in all fields that use the system routines for TextEdit (both
with and without styles). They are usually used in dialog fields (e.g.
search/replace), save dialogs, file names in the Finder, and text windows
in TeachText and SimpleText."
In the attachment called caretPatch10.sit (StuffIt archive, 8k, binhexed
for transfer) you'll find the two versions of the extension and the
description, a SimpleText document:
caretPatch (2 pixels) (5k)
caretPatch (3 pixels) (5k)
caretPatch 1.0 Read me (8k)
This should replace the earlier version (v0.2) found in
gui/caret-patch.hqx
It should probably called "caret-patch-10.hqx".
All three files were checked with Disinfectant 3.7.1 and showed no virus
infection. Please feel free to include these modules on any CD-ROMs you
produce.

Subject: CivHackFAT 1.0
* What is CivHackFAT?
CivHackFAT is a "fat" system extension (or INIT) that fixes a problem
many people have running the MicroProse's Civilization(TM) on
PCI-based PowerMacs under System 7.5.2 and on all PowerMacs under
7.5.3. Running this extension should solve at least one class of
problems with Civ on PowerMacs.
* Why CivHackFAT?
Why indeed, since there's a CivHackPCI out there that basically does
the same thing. The reason is technical: CivHackPCI patches a
PowerPC-native trap with 680x0 code. This is fine when running old
680x0 applications, but generates unnecessary (and very slow)
mode-switching when running PowerPC-native applications that like to
twiddle the color cursor (e.g. NewsWatcher). CivHackFAT solves this
problem by applying a "fat" patch of both 680x0 and PowerPC code.
CivHackFAT also provides information about whether it loaded correctly
at startup time, which CivHackPCI does not.
CivHackFAT is free.

Subject: dcl-ANSI (all)
Date: Thu, 22 Apr 93 0:45:35 EDT
C's method of declaring variables and functions is one of the most confusing
parts of the language. Even old pros will double- and triple-check their
arrays of pointers. And the pathological cases are truly bizarre:
"int(Int(int(Int)))" declares a function that accepts and returns an int, but
"int(Int(int(int)))" declares a function that accepts another function,
and _that_ function accepts and returns an int. Weird stuff.
"dcl-ANSI" lets you type in a declaration, hit a few keys, and see what it
means, in plain English. Tell it "int (*x[])()" and it tells you x is "type
array[] of pointer to function with undefined parameters returning type int."
It's based on the "dcl" program in section 5.12 of K&R, but, as the name
implies, it fully understands ANSI. (Well, OK, there are a few limitations.
See the readme for details.) And it's public domain.
There are two editions of this utility. It was first created as a BBEdit
extension, because (1) I like BBEdit and (2) BBEdit provides a particularly
nice environment for hacks like this to live in. If you keep BBEdit open
while programming, you may prefer this version. Otherwise, you'll probably
want to use the second edition, the FKEY, because it's simpler: just
select your declaration, hit cmd-C and cmd-shift-9 [*], and the English
explanation is in the clipboard, waiting for you to paste it somewhere.
This file contains both editions and their complete Think C 5 source code.

DIALECTIC FILTERS 1.0.1 -- A freeware BBEdit Extension
In 1994 Mark Pilgrim released version 1.2 of his application
Dialectic, which transmogrifies English text in various
entertaining ways. I have used his source code to implement the
same set of filters as an extension for BBEdit and BBEdit Lite,
the Macintosh text editors from Bare Bones Software.
The Dialectic Filters are compatible with both BBEdit and BBEdit
Lite, but need version 2.0 or later to run. Undo-functionality
is available with version 3.0 and later.
The binhex file enclosed below includes the documented THINK C
source code. I will also separately submit a smaller package that
contains only the extension itself.
Version 1.0.1 fixes a bug in the Pig Latin filter, and has some
minor cosmetic improvements.

DOS-Namer is a very handy application for all those who often copy files from Mac to PC. Win95/WinNT or DOS require the 3 Char extension (for example: ".txt"). The Mac not. This application simply adds the correct extension to the filename. If you have to copy files to DOS computers you know that they only support 8 Chars + the extension, so DOS-Namer can also short the Mac filenames to any lenght from 1 to 27 Chars.

Extension to Type Mappings
There are many circumstances where files from alien (non-Mac) file
systems are imported onto a Mac. Usually it is desirable to assign a
Mac file "Type" and "Creator" code to such files, so that they can be
operated upon, or merely viewed, by an appropriate Mac application.
Unless you are prepared to inspect the contents of the file itself and
deduce an appropriate Mac type/creator, the only evidence for the type
of the file is the "filename extension" commonly used in DOS, OS/2, Unix
and other systems. With certain Mac applications, automatic mapping of
filename extensions to Mac type/creator codes can be achieved. A list
of suggested mappings follows.

Subject: ffmpegX 0.0.4g
ffmpegX 0.0.4g
Video/audio encoder/decoder for DivX, MPEG-1/2, VCD, SVCD...
(c) Copyright 2002 Major, [email protected]
http://homepage.mac.com/major4
Freeware released under GPL license (included with the software).
ffmpegX is a Mac OS X GUI to ffmpeg the "hyper fast video and audio
encoder" (http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net). It can decode MPEG-1, MPEG-2,
MPEG-4 (aka DIVX4/5), VOB, AVI MS-MPEG4 V3 (aka DIVX 3), WAV, WMA, Real
Audio, H263(+) (aka RealVideo 1.0), PGM, YUV, PPM, AC3, PCM8/16 bits,
mulaw/Alaw, SUN AU format, MPEG audio layer 2, MPEG audio layer 3,
MJPEG and even more formats. This GUI provides quick encoding to DivX,
MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MP2, MP3 & AC3. MPEG-2 encoding relies on mpeg2enc
component from the mjpegtools package (http://mjpeg.sourceforge.net).
You can convert DVD video to DivX, DivX to VCD or SVCD, and DVD to VCD
or SVCD. Includes a bitrate calculator and a mpeg splitter for multiple
CD burning. When encoding to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 it can author the video
as VCD or XVCD (.bin/.cue files for burning with Toast by dropping the
.bin into VCD window) or as SVCD or XSVCD (two .img files to be burned
in Toast under Multitrack XA window).
System Requirements
- Mac OS X 10.2
- To playback DivX, use codecs from www.3ivx.com or www.divx.com
What's new in 0.0.4g?
- Updated to ffmpeg CVS of 2 nov 2002 with all libs and
Altivec-optimized mpeg-1 encoding (20 0.000000aster than realtime, however
still choppy, so use the new mpeg-1 VCD format for now).
- Added new "MPEG-1 VCD" format. It is similar to old MPEG-1 format
(still available in the dropdown menu, and in the presets as "fast
mpeg-1"), but mjpegtools components are used to encode instead of
ffmpeg, leading (for the current version) to a fully compliant stream
for CBR VCD and VBR XVCD authoring and playback on a compatible DVD
player. "mpeg-1 VCD" files can be dropped directly on Toast without
pre-authoring. Input formats can be Quicktime MOV in all codecs, VOB,
and the usual ffmpeg input formats. Decoding and encoding are Altivec
optimized and VOB->VCD encodes now in realtime on a G4 667.
- The mpeg-1 VCD & XSVCD presets will now use the new MPEG-1 VCD
format. The encoding options must be set in the new "VCD/SVCD" tab
(bicubic scaling, letterboxing, etc are now all functional for VCD
too). XSVCD mpeg-1 need post-processing "Author as VCD" before burning
with Toast, while VCD mpeg-1 can be directly burned on Toast. The
splitter is also fully functional for automatic multiple disk VCD
authoring.
- When using the old MPEG-1 format, the options are still in the
MPEG-1/4 tab.
- Added CBR encoding option for mpeg-2 and "mpeg-1 VCD". CBR is needed
to create a perfectly compliant VCD mpeg-1 stream which will play on
all compatible DVD players and will be accepted by Toast directly.
However if your player can handle VBR, it should be preferred, as it
will lead to constant quality streams and, with a proper quantizer
setting, possibly smaller files. If you only plan to playback the
streams on a computer there is no point in preferring CBR over VBR.
- Added new VCD, XVCD, and generic MPEG-1 profiles in the VCD/SVCD tab.
- When encoding a VOB to mpeg-2 or mpeg-1 VCD you can rename the VOB
with a ".mov" extension, that way use of Quicktime will be forced to
decode it (possibly leading to better audio sync), however audio must
be decoded separately into WAV and put in the same folder and with the
same filename before launching the video encoding, so as ffmpegX will
pick it and mux with the encoded video.
- Added DVD NTSC and DVD PAL (including 16:9) in the Autosize dropdown.
Useful to encode to mpeg-2 with the proper aspect ratio flag settings,
for later use of elementary streams for DVD authoring.

complex forward and inverse ffts. I coded these to optimize execution
speed on Risc processors like the PowerPC. All fft sizes must still be a
power of two. Test programs that use the Numerical Recipes in C routines
are provided. Also included are some simple applications with source
code which time the FFTs. See the enclosed read me file for more
information.
Revision version 2.0:
Rewrote code to rely more on compiler optimization (and be a bit less
ugly.)
Removed restrictions on too small or too large ffts.
Provided a library extension that manages memory for cosine and bit
reversed counter tables.
Added 2d and 3d complex and 2d real ffts.
Speeded routines for data too large to fit in primary cache.
Changed most testing from Matlab to Numerical Recipes based (because
you can buy it for less.)
Changed call parameters (watch out.)
Revision version 1.21:
line 126 of rfftTest.c corrected.
Revisions version 1.2:
I now store the Nyquest point of the real transform where the 0
for the DC term's
imaginary part used to be. !! WATCH OUT FOR THIS IF YOU USE rfft !!
Added the real inverse Fourier transform.
Revisions version 1.1:
Re-arranged to put fft routines in a shared library and changed
source file name to fftlib.c.
Removed some ugly optimizations that are no longer needed for
CodeWarrier.
This code is public domain, do anything you want to with it.

FileT&C is an useful application for changing file type and/or creator
It's very useful for normal desktop usage, but is really cool when works,

FileT&C has some useful hot keys for changing, on the fly skipping the

Subject : FinderNote 2.0 - The amazing note utility!
FinderNote is a simple text editor whose documents can be read in the Finder (on the Desktop) without needing to run any application. This means that these notes open up as quickly as any other Finder window. This is possible because a FinderNote document is a particular type of file that Apple call a clipping.
Clippings are very handy for keeping memos, to-do lists, notes about other files or folders, boilerplate text (like letterheads) that you can insert into other documents - the list is almost endless.

The FinderViewContextMenu is a contextual menu plug-in for Mac OS 8 that
saves and applies complete view characteristics of Finder windows with just
one simple control-click.
Normally you would have to choose the view type from a menu (icon, list or

characteristics for the choosen type. With the help of the
FinderViewContextMenu this lenghty process is reduced to a simple
control-click in the according window to choose from your previously
recorded favorite view settings.

Subject: Find File 1.1.3 patch
About Find File 1.1.3 patch :
A neat feature in Find File 1.1.3 is the option to automatically close Find File
when you select a menu item (or double-click on a found item) while holding down
the option key. Unfortunately, this doesn't work with keyboard equivalents. For
instance, command-option-o doesn't do anything. This patch modifies Find File
1.1.3 to enable the use of the option key with keyboard equivalents. After
applying the patch, you'll find that command-option-o opens the selected items
and quits Find File.
Also, the OFind File ShortcutsEO dialog, available under the Guide menu, states
that OYou can quit Find File by pressing the Option key while you click any Find
File windowOs close box. O Nice, but it doesn't work ! This patch will also fix
this bug.
This patch is designed for Find File 1.1.3 only (part of MacOS 7.6). It should
work with localized verion, but comes without any warranty. Use it at your own
risks !
Enjoy !

Subject: FixWordSystemMemory 2.1
FixWordSystemMemory is a system extension that works around a problem with
Microsoft Word version 5.1. Occasionally Word refuses to launch, claiming
there is a lack of system memory. This is usually an intermittent problem
and often launching Word again will succeed.
FixWordSystemMemory "fools" Word in to believing there's enough space in
the system heap, which bypasses the test and allows it to launch every time.
Version 2.1 fixes a bug which caused printing to fail for some people. It
also limit the scope of the patches so that the chance for
incompatibilities is reduced. I suggest that everyone who was using an
older version of the extension upgrade to this version. This program is
totally free.

Subject: Fonts Manager 3.9.2
Fonts Manager - is similar to the Mac's Extensions Manager,
but it manages Fonts instead. It allows the enabling and
disabling of suitcases and printer fonts in 'Sets'. It
supports the viewing and printing of font samples, export of
'Sets', import of saved 'Sets', Balloon Help, and a Tutorial
Topics system. It is NOT a Control Panel or Extension (like
ATM D... or Suitca... or Master J...), NOR does it pretend to
be one by living in the Startup Items folder (like Font R...);
thus it works on ALL Macs with System 7.1 or later, including
Mac OS 8.1 (and HFS+), without modifying the NORMAL startup
and operation of your computer. Thousands worldwide running
all kinds of Macs (and clones) have switched to Fonts Manager
to get 'Up & Running'.

Subject: HelpLess-1.1.1
Ever wished you could stop the Apple Guide or other help systems swinging
into action when you hit the 'Help' key by accident instead of the delete
key. Tired of waiting for Apple Guide to start up while your busy trying to
edit a document.
Then HelpLess is what your looking for. It helps prevent accidental hits on
the help key, instead just giving a beep.
When you want help to appear you can just hold down a modifier key and
HelpLess will make it look like you pressed the 'Help' key. A simple
control panel interface lets you turn it's activity on/off, control if a
beeps will sound, and choose which modifier key to use.
Compatible with System 7.0 upwards including MacOS 8.
New in version 1.1.1
-------------------
Added support for Simple Internet Version Control (SIVC). If you are
connected to the internet SIVC allows you to find out what is the current
version of HelpLess and it also gives Redpoint Software a better idea of
how many people are using this software. For more information on SIVC see
http://www.ots.utexas.edu/sivc/index.html.
Added the facility to move the Help menu (under MacOS 8) back to where it
was on machines running System 7.x. This is adapted from an extension
written by Leonard Rosenthol at MacHack '97 called TempoHelper.
Added the facility to exclude some applications from the effects of Helpless.
Why? Well maybe you want the help to work in some applications. Or maybe
you have an application that is incompatible with HelpLess and acts funny
if HelpLess is active.
Shareware. $10.

Hippo 1.0.2 - "Open any file in any application with a single click." Hippo adds an "Open with" submenu on to the Finder's contextual menu. By selecting a group of files or folders you can open them in the application of your choice. No more dragging and dropping across nested folders. And, unlike double clicking, you can open groups of files in the application you want, not the app that originally created them. Hippo works well with faceless drag and drop applications. Put "DropStuff" and "Stuffit Expander" onto Hippo's menu and instantly expand and compress any file anywhere. Hippo is a handy replacement for many other CMMs that duplicate the functionality of applications.

Subject: TriVectus Kicho: Keyboard caps-lock utility
Kicho is a small background-only application that modifies the behavior of
the caps-lock key such that when caps-lock is on, typing with the shift key
produces lower-case letters, similar to the behavior of the caps-lock key
on PCs and Apple IIs. Kicho makes no other modifications to the keyboard's

Because Kicho is an application and not an extension or control panel, it
can be activated and deactivated on-the-fly, without restarting, and is
unlikely to cause system conflicts. However, being a background

Subject: KQ Runner - a KeyQuencer Lite utility
Freeware
KeyQuencer is a great utility for automating tasks. The Lite version of
KeyQuencer lacks some features of the full version, e.g. the possibility of
storing scripts in double-clickable files. If you really do miss this
feature, then you should purchase the full version or you can use KQ Runner
in the meantime.
Requires
- KeyQuencer Lite 2.0 (of course!)
- AppleScript
- Scripting Addition "Read/Write Commands"

Subject: LaunchControl 1.1
Ever need to set an application's memory size higher to open a large
document? You'll need to find the application, do a Get Info and change
the size, then change it BACK when you quit.
Or, do you have several large programs that are set to use a lot of
memory? Whenever you need to use two of them at the same time, you go
through the same process to keep the first one from using the memory the
others need.
LaunchControl can do all this for you, and more, whenever you open an
application (even by clicking a document icon - you'll never need to
locate the application itself again.) Just hold down a hot key when
opening, and you'll get a dialog that lets you:
- Open at the minimum, maximum (the maximum size is displayed), or any
other size in between.
- Save the new size if you like.
- Cancel, if memory is too low and you don't want to wait for the
program to start up, quit and free up more memory, and start it again.
Version 1.1 adds the ability to change the modifier keys used to invoke
LaunchControl. (The default is the Control key, which conflicts
annoyingly with OS8's Contextual Menus.) this is done directly from the
LaunchControl dialog - no Control Panel required!
LaunchControl is fully functional $10 shareware. For more info and the
latest version, see

Subject: LineSort 4.2
LineSort is an extension that adds functionality to BBEdit, a commercial
text editor from Bare Bones Software. LineSort is capable of sorting large
amounts of text with reasonable speed and predictable memory requirements.
The basic unit of sorting is a line, a string of text terminated by an
end-of-line character.
LineSort Version 4.2 includes the following useful features:
* convenient floating window interface
* forward or reverse ordering of output
* grep pattern matching
* lexicographic or natural ordering
* merges, removes or retains duplicate lines during sorting
* operates on either a selected region of text or the entire document
* optionally ignores case
* sorts in place, or inserts sorted lines into a new document window
* supports the undo command
Requirements
* Macintosh (any model) with System 7 or 8.
* BBEdit 3.5.2 or later (the commercial version, not BBEdit Lite)
PATTERN MATCHING
Pattern matching adds considerable power and flexibility to LineSort. The
generality of pattern-matching allows the user to greatly extend the
capabilites of LineSort, without requiring any re-programming by the
author.
The basic idea is that you can define a pattern upon which to sort.
LineSort
will search for and recognize this pattern. When it rearranges the lines
of
text, it will order them according to the patterns it finds. If a line
does
not contain the pattern then it can't be sorted. After sorting, lines that
did not match the selected pattern are moved into a new untitled window.

Subject: LogTimer J - Japanese Version
This is the Japanese Version of the LogTimer utility.
LogTimer is a System Extension which simply writes the time for System
startup, Restart and Shut down into a logfile on the Desktop.
To use LogTimer INIT you have to drop it on top of your system folder and
it goes to the extensions folder automatically. After restart you will find
a file called 'LogTime' on your desktop. This file can be opened with
Simple Text to see the log times. The file is created automatically if it
does not already exist. Everytime you start your system, or you shut your
system down or you reboot your system an entry is added.
I wrote this little Extension for one of the registered users of CopyPaste
who had this idea. It is a quick hack, but it does not patch any trap and
costs no CPU time except at startup and shut down. Therefore it is very
unlikely to cause any problems. LogTimer is Freeware, which means it is
free of charge, free for any non commercial use, free from support and free
from any guarantee.
LogTimer is released to the public as an advertising agent for CopyPaste,
the productivity tool for your Mac, downloadable from http://www.bridge1.com.
CopyPaste gives you ten clipboards instead of just one! How many times have
you found yourself going back and forth copying in one application and
pasting in a different application, wishing to yourself that you could copy
5-10 items at a time, then go to another application and paste each of
these items. Now you can! Type the usual keyboard command for copy or cut
and then any number between 1 and 9 before releasing the command key. Paste
works in the same way. In addition to the normal clipboard you now have
nine more.

What's new in Quit CSM v1.7?
- Quit CSM now runs PowerPC code with Control Strip 2.0.
- The "Hide Others" and "Show All" commands and "Restart" and "Shut Down"
commands can be added to the Quit menu.
- The "Hide Front Application before Switch" option has been introduced:
when checked, the front application is automatically hidden before each
context switch. This option is available only on computers running MacOS
8.0 or higher.
- The memory bar can now display either the largest unused memory block or
the memory in use.
- A hot spot for hiding and showing the Control Strip can be enabled.
- The "More..." command has been introduced. It opens the "Quit CSM
Options" dialog box, which makes Quit CSM more versatile and easier to use.
The "Quit CSM Options" dialog box lets you change the memory bar color and
make it display either the largest unused block or the memory in use. It
lets you configure the Quit menu by adding or removing the "Include &
exclude", "Hide Others", "Show All", "Shut Down" and "Restart" commands. It
finally enables you to include all excluded applications and define the
show & hide strip hot spot.
- The incompatibility of Quit CSM with RealPC has been fixed.

Subject: MenuCapture 1.0.2 (a free screen snapshot utility)
Once in a while, I need to take a picture of the screen with a menu pulled
down, in order to document one of my shareware programs. If I did this
every day, I suppose I wouldn't mind paying for a screen capture program
with all the bells and whistles, but as it is, I resist. Years ago, there
was a tiny freeware extension called StillDown, by Gregory M. Robbins, that
enabled command-shift-3 screen shots with menus pulled down. But StillDown
doesn't work with Mac OS 8. Therefore, I decided to write a new free
bare-bones menu snapshot program: MenuCapture.
To install MenuCapture, drop it in your Control Panels folder and reboot.
To use MenuCapture, open the MenuCapture control panel and click the
"Enable" checkbox. Then pull down a menu, and briefly press the keys
command, shift, and control simultaneously. What happens next depends on
what version of the system you are running. With System 7.6 or later, the
cursor turns into a cross-hair; let up the mouse button, then click and
drag to select a rectangle to be copied to the clipboard. With earlier
systems, a snapshot of the whole screen is saved as a picture file on your
disk.
Version 1.0.2 makes it more obvious how to capture a contextual menu, by
ensuring that the cursor changes to a cross-hair.

Subject: Mousebroken 1.0.1 (source code)
Date: Tue, 7 Dec 1993 00:16:40 -0500 (EST)
Mousebroken is a control panel which will give you greater control over your
mouse (or less control, depending on how you look at it). It comes with 13
mouse modules, each designed to alter your mouse's behavior in a different
way. New mouse modules can easily be designed and added to Mousebroken. The
mouse modules in this archive are public domain; feel free to design your own!
The Mousebroken control panel is free and is distributed under the GNU
General Public License. This archive contains complete THINK C 6.0.1 source
code and project files for the control panel. This archive also contains
source code to 13 sample mouse modules and a blank module prototype (quite
well commented, too); these modules are public domain. If you do not have FTP
access, e-mail the author for a copy of the control panel, the source code, or
a list of other programs by the same author. The address is [email protected]
Version 1.0.1 fixes a bug that caused the error dialog box to be displayed
incorrectly on black & white Macs. This version of the control panel should
work on any Macintosh, under either system 6 or 7. Some individual mouse
modules may have problems on systems with multiple monitors. Please report
any bugs/comments/suggestions to [email protected]
This code demonstrates the in's and out's of writing a control panel,
advanced file maintenance, INIT installation, preference file maintenance,
notification through the Notification Manager, VBL installation and removal,
and the correct way to access Quickdraw globals in a control panel.

Subject: MouseKeys 1.0 -control cursor using keyboard
MouseKeys 1.0
=============
MouseKeys is a very small extension which allows you to move the cursor
around the screen using the arrow keys, and to click using the space bar.
I needed this for myself (to control some Macs where I may not always
have a mouse available), so I put it together very quickly and decided
others may find it useful.
I hope somebody can make use of it!
For detailed instructions visit the following web page:
http://wrench.et.ic.ac.uk/adrian/software/
The archive also includes a text file with the instructions, but here's
a trimmed down version to get you started...
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~
Drag the MouseKeys extensions into your Extensions folder and restart.
Using MouseKeys
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MouseKeys can be activated by pressing the control+option+command keys.
You should see a small black 'thing' appear in the top-left corner of your
main screen. You can now move the cursor using the arrow keys. Pressing
the space bar will act as if the mouse button has been pressed down. Press
the space bar again to 'let go' of the mouse button.
MouseKeys will automatically deactivate after five seconds if no key has
been pressed, or as soon as any key is pressed (apart from the arrow keys,
the space bar and the modifier keys: control, option, command, shift).
It can also be deactivated immediately by pressing the three modifier keys
(control+option+command) down together again.
Any problems, please check the web page above. If that doesn't help, then
you can contact me via e-mail: [email protected]

Features:
* Actively see which window is about to be focused
* Focuses nearly all windows, including floating windows
* It's fast
* Smart handling of window focusing via window lingering
* Uses only 40K of system memory
Recent Changes:
* Introduced browsing methods
* Caps Lock now cancels focusing instead of toggling it
* Command now toggles focusing
* Tweaked window focusing a bit
* Turning Mousigator off leaves it off after a restart
* Better error messages and better reporting of them
* Fixed problem with false virus alerts with SAM and MacOS 8.x

Subject: MS Natural Driver 1.01
As wonderful as the new iMacs and Blue and White G3 Macintoshes are, they
don't come with the most comfortable USB keyboards (or mice). The best
replacement I found was Microsoft's Natural Keyboard Elite, but to touch
typists the Open-Apple and Option keys were switched when using Apple's
generic keyboard driver.
The MS Natural Driver fixes this by moving the Open-Apple and Option keys
to a more familiar position for Mac users. Also, the PC application key has
been remapped to a power key.
For more info and downloads, please go to
http://www.mit.edu/~kshakir/msnatural/index.html
Key Features:
- Switches the "Option" and "Command" keys for touch typists.
- Turns the "Application" key into a "Power" key. Note: This key will not
start up your computer, but can be used to shutdown/restart.
- Optional version of driver sends Dvorak keys instead of Qwerty.
Requirements:
- System 8.5 or greater.
- Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite plugged in via USB to your computer.
- Mac OS USB DDK. See http://developer.apple.com/hardware/usb

Subject: MTM_PPCinstaller.hqx (abstract)
This is the PPC installer for Meta Tag Manager version 1.0.3 from YAV
Interactive Media (http://www.yav.com), the first and only software of its
kind for the Macintosh. Meta Tag Manager ($30) is the ultimate tool for
fine-tuning and optimizing a document's meta tags. This process can enhance
a page's search engine relevancy ranking and assure that queries that
should find a particular page, do in fact find that page. Anyone creating
webpages should be using Meta Tag Manager.
Meta tags are usually not visible in a browser but are used by search
engine "spiders" to index and rank a website or homepage. Every search
engine has its own approach to handling on-line documents and even their
utilization of meta tags varies widely. Rather than leave the fate of a
meticulously crafted web presence to a spider's often overly generalized
methods, Meta Tag Manager lets the individual take control. By providing
dozens of options to automate the management of meta tags, Meta Tag Manager
makes it easy to analyze and maximize the important meta tags of an entire
website or a single html document.
Meta Tag Manager provides ongoing feedback about how a document's meta tags
will be treated by up to ten search engines (including the top seven). Meta
Tag Manager generates custom advice in easy-to-understand English. One
click of the "Update" button can add ten meta tags auto-formatted in
optimum syntax to a document. And Meta Tag Manager can conditionally add,
append, prepend, or merge tags to a whole group of files with a single
press of the "Batch" button. Collect all keywords from a website. Analyze
the interaction between keywords, headings, and body text. Designate often
used material to be added automatically to important tags. "Carry over"
tags from one file to another. Strip unwanted meta tags. Create "Tag
Reports" and much more.

MyEyes 2.3.5 (an update)
What is MyEyes?
MyEyes draws on the menubar a pair of eyes constantly following the cursor
movement.
Using a control panel you can modify almost every aspect of the eyes
(color, position, behaviour).
MyEyes also supports plug-ins (External Eyes Sets), giving users the
opportunity of designing their
own eyes icons and/or use icons made by other people.
System requirements
68020/030/040 or PowerPC;
80 KBytes free memory for the extension;
Mac OS 7.1 or later;
Color QuickDraw.
What's new in MyEyes 2.3.5?
- Fixed a long standing bug in the registration code validation
algorithm that caused the control panel to crash occasionally on 68k
machines.
- Removed any reference to FTP application in the control panel.
Installation
The MyEyes package is distributed in form of an "Installer" application.
To install MyEyes just launch the installer and follow the simple
instructions. It is recommended to restart your computer after installation.
Distribution
MyEyes is 10$ shareware.
You can distribute MyEyes freely, provided that you leave the software and
the accompanying documentation unchanged. You can include MyEyes in CD-ROMs
and other software collections only by previous agreement.
Thanks and best regards.

Subject: Natural Order 1.4
Natural Order is an extension that makes "View by Name" in the Finder
sensibly sort items that have numbers in their names.
E.g. "File5, File10, File15, File20" would list in that order,
instead of the System's standard order, which (believe it or not)
is "File10, File15, File20, File5".

of the command+clic in a Finder's window. And Navi iRae displays also some
information about the file, like size, date of creation and modification...
Navi iRae works like follows : it looks for a proxy associated with the window
(feature introduced with OS 8.5). If it doesn't find one, it looks for all opened
files with the same name as the window. And if it find no such file, it looks for
a recently opened file with the same name.

From: (Adam Lloyd) [email protected]
NetStripper v4.0 is the latest version of the NetStripper text converter
utility. Over 300 to 400 0.000000aster than any previous version, the new version
supports all the translation modes of the earlier versions. In addition, it
has enhanced AppleScript support, the ability to receive drops of folders
as well as files, a menu command to select a folder for conversion, and
also a new preference - the notification sound - that allows the user to
record a sound that can be played when all translations have finished.
NetStripper v4.0 supports the DOS/Unix to Mac, Mac to DOS, Mac to Unix and
CR Strip modes. As usual the carriage return strip can either remove single
carriage returns while converting double carriage returns to singles, or
can remove single carriage returns while leaving double carriage returns in
place.
NetStripper v4.0 is a FAT binary, which means it runs at optimal speeds on
all MacOS computers, from Apple's Macintosh SE to the latest Power
Computing and similar clones. It has been tested with System software from
System 7.0 to 7.5.5 and works without problems on all versions, although
for versions earlier than System 7.5 you will need to install Apple's
Thread Manager extension (included in the package).
NetStripper v4.0 is shareware, priced at US$10 or 5 (5 UK pounds).
Payments are handled by Kagi Shareware (http://www.kagi.com).

Subject: New Menu 1.0b3
New Menu 1.0b3
New Menu adds a hierarchical menu to your Finder's New Folder menu
choice. The Installer creates a folder named "New Documents" in your
system folder, and any files in that folder will appear on that
hierarchical menu. These files should be various new documents for your
various applications.
When you select one of those file names, New Menu copies that file into
your Finder's window (whereever the Finders New Folder would have
created the folder). It's a copy, so you can open and modify it without
changing your "blank" document in the "New Documents" folder. Also the
System Beep at startup is when the INIT loads and if any one can disable
this I will make them the co author.
New Menu requires system 7 (although it's only been tested on 7.5.5).
It may not work on older systems (But let me know if it will work) .
You can get any support on it, But It's completely UNGUARANTEED for it
may crash your computer. Feel free to send suggestions or complaints
to me at [email protected] .

Subject: NewsTicker 1.6
Attached is NewsTicker 1.6, my latest update to my shareware NewsTicker.
Please place it on your wonderful site.
Thanks,
Reuven
Among changes and additions to version 1.6 are:
The much awaited keyboard shortcuts are here, but with no UI yet:
- Use Command+Control+Escape to toggle the visibility of the NewsTicker
window.
- Use Command+Control+Right Arrow to load the next site immediately.
- Using the T keyboard combination when in the Tracked Sites panel of
the Preferences dialog toggles the tracking state of all
currently-selected sites (those being tracked will not be tracked and
vice-versa).
The Ticker Appearance panel now has a checkbox which can turn on or
off the underlining of headlines.
More control over Tracked Site Information.
NewsTicker now supports a Local preferences file (one placed next to
the NewsTicker application). This enables running more than one copy of
NewsTicker on the same machine with different settings.
(I use this to have one copy track stocks, another copy to track news.
Maybe in the future a third copy could track email...)
Faster site switching using a sub menu of the contextual menu which
enables switching between all tracked sites.
The NewsTicker window has more anchoring options.

Subject: OS8foto - an Ofoto popup menu fix for Mac OS 8
Ofoto is an application from Light Source Computer Images, Inc. that was
bundled with older models of Apple's Color OneScanner. It manages the
scanning process and allows you to perform various transformations on the
scanned image.
The new Appearance Extension introduced with Mac OS 8 changed the system's
internal behavior in a subtle way that caused Ofoto's popup menus to break.
These popups are critical user interface elements for setting up the
parameters of a scan.
OS8foto is a small extension that supplies the behavior that Ofoto expects
so that the popups can work again.
System requirements:
* Only works on systems with the Appearance Extension installed.
The Appearance Extension *can* be installed on pre-Mac OS 8 systems
(how far back, I'm not certain; probably all variants of System 7.5).
* Has no effect if Ofoto is not running.

PageInspector 1.5
http://www.kagi.com/doug/pi/
PageInspector is a Macintosh-only HTML syntax validator. It reports and
corrects errors that cause HTML pages to render incorrectly, and that are
difficult to find by eye. It also checks links, both local, FTP- and
HTTP-based links.
FEATURES:
=========
- Displays the text of the open file and highlights the exact location of
errors.
- Checks local as well as Internet links (that is, HTTP and FTP -- no other
program does this).
- Checks the case of local links to ensure they are UNIX-safe in addition
to being Mac-safe, which is not done even by programs that "specialise" in
HTML link checking.
- Obtains the document base URL from the file's Finder comment. No other
program does this.
- Lists up to 8192 errors in HTML documents. Explains why PageInspector

Subject: Password Please
Password Please is a simple program that asks for a password at startup.
It offers a limited form of security for the Macintosh user. It's only
function is to provide two different users their own passwords on a single
computer. It's free, it's simple, and it's self-explanatory. It was
developed and tested on a 604e with OS 8.5.1. There are no guarantees that
it will work on any other systems, but I have no reason to believe that it
won't.

Subject: PowerMenu v2.2.3: A contextual menu utility
PowerMenu is a utility that adds powerful commands to your contextual
menu if you are running MacOS 8 or better. If you are running the older
Macintosh System 7, PowerMenu adds a contextual menu to your system so you
can still use this innovative feature without upgrading to MacOS 8.
Version 2.2.3 corrects a startup bug and greatly accelerates the drawing
of custom icons under MacOS 8.5.
PowerMenu's contextual menu commands let you do all these operations
with a single click:
- Open files straight into any application. If the application you want
to use isn't running, PowerMenu automatically launches it for you
- Move, copy or make an alias of files straight into target folders of
your choosing
- Quickly open commonly used files or launch any application
PowerMenu also provides these handy features:
- "File Copy and Paste", a unique feature that makes manipulating files
much easier. With File Copy and Paste, you can "pick up" files and "drop"
them into another folder without dragging and dropping. You can even
"gather" many files from different locations and copy or move them all to a
single target folder with just a few clicks or keystrokes!
- A pop-up menu, accessible from any application, that lets you quickly
open or launch your commonly used files and applications with a single
click.
PowerMenu is heavily customizable and is optimized for both Macintosh
and Power Macintosh computers, meaning it will run at full speed on whatever
model you use. PowerMenu requires MacOS 8.x, System 7.5.x, or System 7.1.x
with the Scriptable Finder installed. PowerMenu is $15US shareware.

Subject: Powershare
PowerShare 1.0
PowerShare is a shareware program that allows anyone using System 7 File
Sharing to control the amount of CPU time allocated to File Sharing.
Without PowerShare, System 7 File Sharing defaults to 5027777767120f the CPU time
allocated to File Sharing. PowerShare allows you to allocate anywhere from
1027777767120 1001001105513f the CPU time for File Sharing. Once you use PowerShare to
change this setting, it will stay at the new setting ... even if the
computer is shut down and rebooted.
By allowing you to set a higher CPU allocation for File Sharing, PowerShare
can greatly improve the performance of File Sharing. If you are using File
Sharing, you need PowerShare to get the maximum performance. If you need a
fast server for a small network, with PowerShare, System 7 File Sharing can
compete with AppleShare's performance.

Using ProcessWatcher you can also kill the running processes, launch
new processes, and send Open AppleEvents to running processes, easily
bring an application to the front... It has some support for
scripting so you can open your remote connections automatically.
Version 3.1 is MacOS 8 appearence compliant.

Subject: QuickStart 1.0.1
A system extension that lets you open applications, documents or folders through keyboard shortcuts.
Description
QuickStart is a system extension that lets you open applications, documents or folders through keyboard shortcuts. These keyboard shortcuts are available throughout all the applications you use. Because you can add all kinds of items, you can assign shortcuts to run automated applescript tasks, open websites or write e-mails to specific addresses, etc.
QuickStart currently does not support network volumes or files that are accessed over an appletalk network.
QuickStart can be easily configured through its control panel, which allows adding of applications, documents and folders via file dialogs or by dragging icons from the finder onto it. You can specify almost any key-combination to start or open an item.

Quit It v1.2 - A package of productivity utilities that let you assign actions
to keyboard shortcuts. An action can be opening an application, file, folder or
other keypress simulation. Also you can open applications, files and folders via
a control strip module and contextual menu in the Finder.
Full Description
The QuickStart package provides two basic functions: quickly opening
applications, documents or folders, and mapping keyboard combinations to other
keys. All these functions are controlled through a single, easy to use control
panel.
QuickStart provides three means to open items: via keyboard shortcuts, via a
control strip module, and in the Finder via a contextual menu entry.
The keyboard shortcuts are available throughout all the applications you use.
Because you can add all kinds of items, you can assign shortcuts to run
automated AppleScript tasks, open websites or write e-mails to specific
addresses, etc. QuickStart currently does not support network volumes or files
that are accessed over an appletalk network.
When you specify that an item has to be shown in the QuickStart control strip
module, you will be able to start/open it from there.
The QuickStart contextual menu extensions allows to open a file with any
application. This contextual menu is shown when you Ctrl-Click on any item in
the Finder, and lets you open the item with any of the applications that you
have setup. If you would add Microsoft Word as an example, that will then allow
you to open any text file with Word, instead of with the default application
associated with the file.

QuitAll Programs is an AppleScript applet that quits all running programs
on your Macintosh. You will find this very useful if you frequently have
numerous programs running and want to quit out of most or all of them
before running other programs. What's more, you can create an Exceptions

Rhapsody. Even in Mac OS 8, if you hold down a menu in the Finder,
processes will not continue in the background. With Respond!, you can be
holding down a menu (particularly useful with Sticky Menus in Mac OS 8), or
clicking in a the zoom or close boxes (or the WindowShade collapse box in
Mac OS 8), or dragging a window or the thumb of a scroll bar, and processes
will continue in the background.
Respond! includes the option to use Live Window drag. When this option is
turned on, the full window, not just the outline, will be dragged, and both
foreground and background processing will continue, meaning the window
itself will be updated as its being dragged around! For example, you can
drag around an mp3 player window and watch as it continues playing and
updating the time counter while moving.
Version 1.0.1 is exactly the same as version 1.0, but it does not
incorrectly report your registration period being over when it is first
installed. If you are already using version 1.0, there is no reason for
you to download 1.0.1.
This version replaces 1.0 in the cfg folder of the infomac archives.

Subject: Scrippy BBEdit Extension
Scrippy is a BBEdit extension that will compile and run AppleScript. In
the spirit of 'bare bones' it isn't fancy but it gets the job done.
When you activate Scrippy it will retrieve the front most window's text,
compile it, and run it. If the text doesn't compile then Scrippy will
inform you and change the BBEdit selection to indicate where the problem
is.
Scrippy is pretty quick, except for the first time you run it. The
first time Scrippy needs to link up with AppleScript and that takes a
just a little while. After that initial run you will find Scrippy to be
as quick and responsive as a dog looking for that treat at the end of a
trick.
Scrippy is free. It is a tool I developed for my own use and thought
that other BBEdit users might like it. If you have any thoughts about
Scrippy you can reach me at the address below.

Subject: Script Extractor v1.0
What is it? Script Extractor is a simple but useful PPC-Only SuperCard
application which will extract and organize scripts from a SuperCard project in
order to better document, edit, save and/or print them. The extracted scripts
are saved in text format.
How do You use it? Simply select 'Extract...' from the 'File' menu or click on
the 'Extract...' button. You will then be prompted to select a SuperCard
project.
Preferences Preferences can be modified by selecting 'Preferences...' in the
'Edit' menu. There are two families of preferences, System and Scripts to
Extract.
System Preferences - Selecting 'Open Project when extracting' will provide for
faster script extraction but may lead to errors, although this is highly rare.
If you Auto-Save the file, the file will be saved in the same directory as the
selected Project with the extension provided. If you Prompt for a file name then
the you will be prompted for a file name prior to saving the extracted scripts.
Scripts to Extract Preferences - Select the scripts that you wish to extract.
E-Mail Ware If you use Script Extractor please send me an e-mail just to give me
an idea of the interest level related to this software. The E-Mail can be blank,
however, any comments you may have concerning the software are welcome. Also,
let me know of any program problems you encounter.

Finally, here is a little tool for marking a text file as setext.
Place the insertion point on any line (not too long) and choose
the extension from the menu. Works best with BBX-Keys of Jamie
R. McCarthy.
By default, it marks sections. If
