60 A CHANGED MAN

PRAY Change my life, Lord, as I learn more of you and your ways.

READ Exodus 10:21-11:10.

THINK Why do you think Moses got angry (8)? Do you think he was justified? —————————————————————- FOCUS MOSES . . . A VERY GREAT MAN (3). We have now come nearly to the end of the plagues. Things and people have changed. Pharaoh has become harder and harder. But compare Moses in today’s reading with the timid, hesitant person we read about earlier. CONFIDENCE (25,29). You would never have thought that Moses would be standing up to Pharaoh like this. He knows that Pharaoh is quite capable of carrying out all his threats but he stands firm. There will be all sorts of situations in our lives when the easiest thing to do is to back down. But we can only be used by God if we stand firm. What had made the difference? The secret is in Moses’ relationship with God. He trusted God, obeyed God (22) and allowed God to work in his life. That is the only way to be really great. ANGER. Verse 8 shows Moses white hot with anger. Have you thought of a reason? It may well have been because he knew the suffering that would be caused by Pharaoh’s hardness of heart. For most people, anger easily becomes sinful. But there are times when it is right to feel angry. The question then becomes: How – if at all – should we express our anger? When did you last get angry? Was it right? Have you ever been angry about injustice, oppression, needless violence? Angry enough to do something? —————————————————————- PRAY Ask God to grow self control in you if you have trouble with temper/anger. But ask God to grow compassion, if injustice and oppression never move you to anger or action.
