61 TODAY AND TOMORROW

PRAY Lord God, increase my knowledge of you and of your will for my life. —————————————————————- READ Exodus 12:21-42. —————————————————————- THINK What was the general purpose of the instructions in verses 24-28? —————————————————————- FOCUS Today we shall meet people . . . talk to them . . . make choices . . . and promises. And tomorrow will grow out of today. See from these verses how the present affects the future. 1. The Israelites followed God’s instructions (21-29). What did they have to do (21,22)? Hyssop (22) is probably what we today call marjoram. It would make a useful natural brush. By putting the blood above the door and on both sides of it, the Israelites showed they trusted in God to protect them. And he did! 2. They would teach their children about what God has done (24- 27). Even today, the eldest Jewish boy in the family asks the question of verse 26 at the Passover meal. 3. They had no time to use yeast to raise their bread (34,39). Every year afterwards, the nation kept the festival of unleavened bread. They did this to remind themselves of God’s goodness to them. What reminds you most of God’s goodness to you? 4. They asked they Egyptians for silver and gold (35,36). The results were seen later when they used these gifts in building and equipping a beautiful tent for worship (35:20-29). 5. With them on their journey out of Egypt they took may other people (38). Later on these were going to make problems, for they did not worship God as the Israelites did. —————————————————————- PRAY Ask God to give you wisdom to make right choices and courage to carry them through.
