God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

Arguments in Favor of Euthanasia: 1. Personhood – The argument is simple: someone in an irreversible coma is no longer a person but only a biological organism. The distinction is often made between a person’s biological life, or physical existence, and one’s biographical life, or the aspects of one’s life that make it meaningful. One’s biographical life is the sum total of one's goals, desires, dreams, plans, accomplishments and relationships. Medical science has made it possible to retain one’s biological life after having lost one’s biographical life. Thus the individual exists only as a body, having lost the essence of what it is that makes him/her a person. Hence it is not murder to terminate what remains of one’s mere biological existence. 2. Quality of Life – In cases of unrelenting and unrelievable suffering where there is no reasonable hope of improvement, life ceases to be worth living. In such cases, an individual or his/her family ought to be free to say “enough is enough” and put an end to such incessant misery. No one should be compelled to live a life that they no longer regard as life worth living. 3. Mercy – We extend mercy to animals when we put them out of their misery. Why should we be less merciful to humans? 4. Utilitarian concerns – Most people cannot afford to underwrite the expense of keeping a terminally ill or comatose person alive. To do so places an unfair burden on other members of the family. Why should tax dollars and precious hospital space and technology be expended to perpetuate the life of someone who will never function in society again when there are other, potentially productive people, who cannot receive proper care?

Why is our union with our spouse the most important human relationship? Do we dare assume another human relationship is more important than our union with Christ which marriage represents? What’s wrong with adultery? Does that display the covenant fidelity that God has with His people? What’s wrong with fornication? Does intimacy with Christ happen before we have a covenant relationship with Christ? What’s wrong with homosexual or polygamous so-called marriages? Do those display Christ and His bride? Why do we have marital roles within marriage? Does the church lead Christ or does Christ lovingly and sacrificially lead the church? Why must spouses love and forgive one another? Does Christ do any less for the church? Why does God forbid divorce? Does Christ divorce the church or the church divorce Christ?

CATEGORY CUISINE TAG YIELD
Eggs, Dairy 1 Servings

INGREDIENTS

Butter for greasing pan
3/4 lb (2 1/2 cups) shelled filberts
1 ts Baking powder
7 lg Eggs; (at room temperature), separated
1/8 ts Cream of tartar
1 pn Salt
1 c Sifted powdered sugar
1 tb Pure vanilla extract
2 c (1 pint) heavy cream; cold
2 tb Granulated sugar; (preferably superfine)

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Butter 1 (15x10x1/2-inch) jelly roll pan. Line with waxed paper and butter
paper. Set aside.
Prepare nuts: Spread filberts in unbuttered baking pan. Place pan on center
shelf of oven and bake until golden brown (15 - 20 minutes). Place pan on
wire rack until nuts are cool. Grind nuts in blender or food processor.
Make cake batter: Measure 2 cups of the ground filberts. Stir in baking
powder. Set aside. Beat egg white mixture: In small mixing bowl, beat egg
whites until frothy. Add cream of tartar and salt. Beat until soft peaks
form when beaters are lifted. Add 1/2 cup of the powdered sugar, 1
tablespoon at a time. Continue beating until mixture is stiff but not dry
(5 - 7 minutes if using electric mixer). Set aside. Beat egg yolk mixture:
Pour egg yolks into large mixing bowl. Without washing beaters, beat until
thick and lemon-colored. Add 1/4 cup of the powdered sugar and 2 teaspoons
of the vanilla. Continue beating until smooth. Stir in ground filbert
mixture and approximately 1 cup of the stiffly beaten egg white mixture.
Blend thoroughly. Gently fold in remaining beaten egg white mixture.
Bake cake: Spread batter in prepared baking pan. Place pan on center shelf
of oven. Bake until golden and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean
(about 15 minutes). Be careful not to overbake, since the cake cannot be
rolled if it is too dry. Immediately remove pan from oven and place on a
trivet. Working as quickly as possible, cover cake with damp dishtowel
(which has been wrung out in cold water). Flip cake over. Peel off waxed
paper. Roll up towel and cake together. Place in refrigerator to cool. Turn
off oven.
Make filling: Pour heavy cream, superfine sugar, and remaining 1
teaspoonful vanilla extract into medium-sized mixing bowl. Beat until
consistency of whipped cream. Set aside.
Fill cake and roll into log: Unroll cooled cake. Evenly spread sweetened
whipped cream over cake. Roll up filled cake (jelly roll fashion). Transfer
to oval platter. Cover with aluminum foil, making a tent.
Place cake in refrigerator until ready to serve. (If desired, cake can be
frozen at this point.)
When ready to serve, sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup powdered sugar over top of
log.
Yield: 12 servings
