We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

Jacob is about to enter the Promised Land. He will be one of the venerated Patriarchs of the faith. But before Jacob can become Israel, the man must be broken. Jacob needs to learn that his life is to be one of continual striving with God, but doing it with full dependence on God. He will learn that with God there is a continual heat from the refiner’s fire, but through the adversity there is an unspeakable joy in the journey. And though God probably won’t be wrestling with any of us physically like He did with Jacob, there is a continual tension of finding our greatest peace when we are most intimate in close communion with God. At times we struggle, but in the pain we learn to submit to His will, allow Him to expose our defects, yield to the wounds He creates and then trust Him that the pain is for our greatest good as the “old man” is further put to death. If we act in the flesh and run away or defend ourselves or blame others or whine and complain, we’ll never experience this. As creatures so prone to follow our selfish instincts, there is a serenity that comes when God wrestles us to the ground, breaks us further of our pride and reminds us that our sufficiency is only in Him.
Randy Smith

The native hardness of our hearts makes us unwilling and unable to turn from sin and trust the Savior. Therefore conversion involves a miracle of new birth. Thus new birth precedes and enables faith and repentance. Nevertheless, faith and repentance are our acts. We are accountable for them. By the miracle of new birth, by pure grace, God grants the inclination we need.

CATEGORY CUISINE TAG YIELD
Try it, Nonfood 1 Servings

INGREDIENTS

1/2 pt Alcohol
1 qt Distilled Water
1 oz Tincture of Benzoin
1 dr Oil of Bergamot
2 dr Lemon Oil OR:
2 oz Tincture of Lemon Peel
1/4 ts Cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

The tangy tingling sensation it causes after being splashed on is one way
to describe an aftershave. Most aftershaves act as astringents; they help
firm skin tone and close skin pores when applied immediately after shaving.
Many aftershaves contain alcohol, which possesses antibacterial abilities,
helping to prevent infections of knicks or shaving cuts. It also should
contain glycerine and/or other ingredients known to be beneficial to skin
care. Glycerine will help counter the drying effects on the skin, and the
chafing and irritation that can develop with dry skin.
*Most drug stores contain all of the above tinctures and oils. Herb and
health food shops carry the essential oils.
DaisyLin's comments: Here are some aftershave recipes that I have used. My
ex liked the lime one best. They are really good. I still make it for him
once in a while. And you can get neat bottles at a healthfood or herb
store, or some specialty stores...and the essential oils can be found at a
health food/herb store, and the tinctures etc can be found at some
pharmacies, I suggest calling around. I found it at three old type
pharmacies. Like Rexall.
