God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

[In the eyes of some Congregants] you aren't a human anymore when you become a pastor. You are thing. A thing that is there to baptize them, bless them, pray for them, and serve them, but if you cross them, fail them, or fall short for them they will leave you to go find another thing. No one goes to the doctor because they care how the doctor feels. They go to the doctor to get better...and once they are they will have no use for the doctor.

It was [Paul’s] mission as the “apostle to the Gentiles,” and it is the universal church’s mission as well, to promote that harmony of cultures in Christ that the cross brings them (or, we might say, forces upon them for their good). Imagine what it took for this former Jewish leader to accept that the Jews’ lofty position as God’s chosen people is not ultimately about ethnic Jews, but only Jewish Christians who share the position with “Gentile dogs” who have also become Christians. The promises made to the Jews are for all who are in Christ; the inheritance is both for Jews and Gentiles. We are all members of one body. The immensity of this new knowledge is not only enough to cause every God-fearing Jew to scream curses at Paul, but is the very reason Gentiles like me have any hope whatsoever. Paul carried this message everywhere.

Here is a recipe fron THE ART OF RUSSIAN CUISINE.
In a 2-quart enameled sauce pan, combine all the marinade ingredients,
bring to a boil, remove from the heat, and cool.
Put beets in a large saucepan, cover with cold water and bring to a boil.
Cook at a low bail until tender, about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Drain the
beets, then slice. Combine the beets and marinade. Refrigerate for 24 hours
(at least, my comment).
