INGREDIENTS

1/2 c Shortening (vegetable oil)
1/2 ts Salt
1/2 ts Lemon juice
1/2 ts Nutmeg
1 c Sugar
2 Eggs; well beaten
2 tb Milk
2 c Flour; sifted
1 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Baking soda
Decorator icing; various colors

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix vegetable oil, salt, lemon juice, nutmeg and sugar. Add eggs, milk and
flour sifted with baking powder and soda. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased
cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart. Gently press each cookie flat with the
bottom of a glass that has been moistened and dipped in sugar. Bake in
375-degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes, until golden brown around edges. Do
not overbake.
When cool, use decorator icing to write "100" on each cookie, in honor of
the Century Celebration.
