INSTRUCTIONS
Bake in two layers. White frosting Boil 1 scant cup sugar with a little
water till it hairs from a spoon. Beat white of egg & pour syrup on to it
gradually stirring till cool. Put on a cold cake.
(Other recipes refer to "butter like an egg or less" or "butter like a
walnut". A recipe for Caramel Frosting is said to "thread from spoon". In
the cookie section, measurements for flour are often given as "flour to
form soft dough" or "flour to roll out".)
