God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

Parabole (parable) is a compound word made up of a form of the verb ballo (to throw, lay, or place) and the prefix para (meaning alongside of). The idea is that of placing, or laying, something alongside of something else for the purpose of comparison. A spiritual or moral truth would often be expressed by laying it alongside, so to speak, a physical example that could be more easily understood. A common, observable object or practice was used to illustrate a subjective truth or principle. That which was well known was laid alongside that which was not known or understood in order to explain it. The known elucidated the unknown.
John MacArthur

Having lost the security of being rooted in the eternal reality of the Word of God, we are looking to busy activity to fill the void that has been created in our lives. And under that bondage to activity we find it difficult to linger with the Word simply for the joy of it. In fact, we may be afraid to stop our busyness lest it expose the shallowness of our lives. So we go on from activity to activity, from project to project. But activity is a dangerous source of fulfillment. Instead of finding our identity, our sense of self-worth, from our relationship with God, we begin to look to success in programs and other earthly indicators of success for our self-worth. But these will never satisfy. This will only enslave us more in our bondage to activity.

CATEGORY CUISINE TAG YIELD
1 Servings

INGREDIENTS

Pillsbury Hot Roll mix or your favorite bread dough (small recipe)
1 c Fresh spinach; about
1 Or more cloves of garlic; sliced thin
1 ts Olive oil or olive oil spray (up to 2)
1 tb Shredded parmesan

INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare hot roll mix as directed, and cut the ball in half. (To save half
for later, spray the inside of a ziploc bag with Pam and insert the dough,
and pop in the freezer-to use later, simply thaw and bake). Spread dough on
a sprayed cookie sheet in a circle or square, stretching it lightly so it
is about a foot long, and 8 inches or so wide. Brush with olive oil or
spray, lay clean, dry fresh spinach all over it, and lay the sliced garlic
on top of that (this does not have to be flattened down, as it will
condense during baking). Sprinkle parmesan over all, and bake at 400 for
15-20 minutes, or until exposed dough is lightly brown and puffed a little
bit. Serve warm. Posted to Digest eat-lf.v097.n191 by Nicki Eger
