Most American evangelicals are familiar with what Billy Graham does at the end of his preaching, calling people to walk to the front. Sometimes these are called “invitations.” Sometimes “altar calls.” When you look for something like this in the Bible there is no clear example… If you ask what the decisive, public way of taking a Christian stand was in the New Testament, the answer is, baptism. The message Peter gave in Acts 2 ended with the words, “Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ” (Acts 2:38). Our renewed conviction is that we need to regularly offer baptism as the decisive public way for people to respond publicly to the gospel.

Biblical veracity and biblical authority are bound up together. Only truth can have final authority to determine belief and behavior, and Scripture cannot have such authority further than it is true. A factually and theologically trustworthy Bible could still impress us as a presentation of religious experience and expertise, but clearly, if we cannot affirm its total truthfulness, we cannot claim that it is all God’s testimony and teaching, given to control our convictions and conduct.

Sugar Dough

INGREDIENTS

1 1/3	c	Granulated sugar
10	oz	(2 1/2 sticks) soft butter
3	lg	Eggs
5 1/3	c	All purpose flour
1/2	ts	Salt
1	ts	Vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and continue to cream. Add salt and
vanilla. Add flour all at once and blend just until flour has dissolved.
Refrigerate until ready to use. This dough must be used CHILLED.
