We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

The first mark of a healthy church is expositional preaching. It is not only the first mark; it is far and away the most important of them all, because if you get this one right, all of the others should follow… If you get the priority of the Word established, then you have in place the single most important aspect of the church’s life, and growing health is virtually assured, because God has decided to act by His Spirit through His Word… The congregation’s commitment to the centrality of the Word coming from the front, from the preacher, the one specially gifted by God and called to that ministry, is the most important thing you can look for in a church.
Mark Dever

Most of our bitterness and anger towards others is rooted in an inability to be profoundly amazed at Christ's love for us in our sin. If you are struggling with bitterness then it may be that the Lord is letting the very sin that is flowing from your inability to see Christ be the means by which you come to see him. In other words, perhaps this season of rage, anger, and a fed-up 'I'm out of here and don't want anything to do with you' spirit is where you have had to come in order to see the greatness of your sin as a forgiven and justified saint. And the Lord has done it so that you would be stunned at his grace in a deeper way than you've ever been stunned by the grace of God before. And now, out of that experience can flow grace towards others.

Fruits, Grains, Vegetables, Meats, Dairy Soups, Appetizers, Fruits/nuts 8 Servings

INGREDIENTS

2 qt Chicken or vegetable stock
1/3 c Long-grain rice
1/2 c Blanched almonds
1 tb Butter
1 Large onion, chopped
1 tb Finely chopped garlic
1/4 c Dry Sherry
2 tb Almond paste
Grated zest of 1 orange
1 c Evaporated skim milk
Salt and white pepper
1 1/4 c Slivered toasted almonds
Grated orange zest

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Spray a large soup pot with Pam. Add the stock and bring to a boil.
Turn down the heat to medium-low, and add the rice and blanced almonds.
Cover and let cook slowly for 30 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, spray a 10-inch skillet with Pam, and in it melt the butter
over medium heat. Add the onion, and saute until it starts to soften,
about 3 1/2 minutes. Lower the heat slightly, and add the garlic. Continue
cooking, stirring constantly, to soften the garlic for about 20 seconds.
Stir in the sherry, then crumble in the almond paste a bit at a time.
Remove the skillet from the heat, and whisk well to smooth it out.
3. Lower the heat under the stock to the barest possible simmer. Add the
onion mixture, the orange zest, and evaporated skim milk. Let cook to blend
flavors, 10 minutes more.
4. Puree the soup, in batches, in a food processor, then put through a
food-mill or power strainer. Season to taste with salt and white pepper.
5. Reheat just before serving, and serve, very hot, in small cups. Garnish
soup with toasted almonds and the merest bit of orange zest.
