We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

We must learn to trust the power of God’s Word to convince, convert, and change lives (Rom. 1:16; 1 Cor. 1:18; 1 Pet. 1:23)...without the help of our man-made systems… We must be so convinced, or we will be tempted to add things to the preaching of the Word to secure greater commitments… Here is the real question: How powerful is the Word of God? Can it change men from sinners into saints without the use of an altar call? Will it convict and convert (as God promises), or will we need to add something that helps men “settle it”? You will never be able to do without the invitation system until you are thoroughly convinced of the power of God’s Word.
Jim Ehrhard

In response to two excuses why people do not evangelize: A Christian who has heard biblical preaching, participated in Bible studies, and has read the Scriptures and Christian literature for any time at all should have at least enough understanding of the basic message of Christianity to share it with someone else. Surely if we have understood the gospel well enough ourselves to be converted, we should know it well enough (even if as yet we know nothing else about the faith) to tell someone else how to be converted… Do we really want to say that we are too busy to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ to make disciples of unbelievers (Matthew 28:19-20)? Do we expect that at the Judgment Jesus will excuse us from the single most important responsibility He gave to us because we say, “I didn’t have time”?

CATEGORY CUISINE TAG YIELD
Grains bles 6 Servings

INGREDIENTS

500 g Dried Cannellini Beans; Soaked Overnight
1 Ham Knuckle; Soaked Overnight
2 Sprigs Thyme
1 Large Sprig Rosemary
1 Bay Leaf
1 lg Onion; Chopped
4 Cloves Garlic; Sliced
4 Strips Lemon Zest
150 ml Maple Syrup
1 tb Tabasco Or Other Chilli Sauce; Or More ???
1 tb Dijon Mustard
1 tb Dijon Mustard
Salt And Pepper
Topping:
3 To 4 Eating Apples, Cored; Cut Into Eighths
30 g Butter; Softened
50 ml Rum; Optional

INSTRUCTIONS

Soak the beans overnight in plenty of water, then drain. Put into a pan and
cover with fresh water. Boil hard for 10 minutes. Reduce heat and simmer
until tender - about 45 to 60 minutes.Drain, reserving cooking water.
Put half the beans, together with half the onion and garlic, into a large,
oven proof casserole. Add herbs, tied together with a piece of string. Bury
two of the strips of lemon zest in the beans. Lay the ham knuckle on top,
then cover with remaining beans, onions, garlic and lemon zest. Mix syrup,
Tabasco and mustard and pour over. Season lightly with salt and pepper,
then pour over just enough of the reserved cooking water to cover. Cover
the casserole tightly and bake at 150F, 300 C, gas mark 2 for 3 hours.
Arrange the apple pieces decoratively over the beans. You may not need them
all. If there is rather too much liquid left in the dish, scoop a little
more out so that the apples can perch more comfortably. Dot with butter and
return to the oven for an hour. If using rum, pour it over the top just
before serving.

NOTES : Based on a recipe from the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers
Association booklet of maple syrup dishes, this is an unusual take on
slow-cooked beans, sweetened with syrup, salted with the juices of the ham
and spiced up with Tabasco sauce. The apple slices bring together all the
elements, so do not be tempted to leave them out. The rum, however, is not
essential.
