We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

God is sovereign, but parents are responsible. God’s sovereignty is our hope. Parents are utterly dependent on God. He can save any child, no matter how dark the circumstances. On the other hand, God normally reaches children through their parents. It is fatal to presume on God’s sovereignty by neglecting parental faithfulness. Yet it is also a mistake to assume that it all depends on us. It doesn’t. In fact, none of your efforts will prevail unless God bestows the gift of faith on your children. We are utterly dependent and responsible at the same time.

We change because we have seen a superior beauty and worth and excellence. If you look into the face of Christ and then look into Sports Illustrated or Glamour and are not moved by the superior beauty and worth and excellence and desirability of Christ, then you are still hard and blind and futile in your thinking. You need to cry out, “Open my eyes to see wonderful things out of your Word!” And your life will show it. Where your treasure is – your desire, your delight, your beauty – there will your heart be also – and your evenings and your Saturdays and your money. We are changed by seeing the glory of God in the Word of God.

INGREDIENTS

1 lb Chicken livers
Sea salt; to taste
Freshly-ground black pepper; to taste
4 tb Butter
1/2 lb Mushrooms; sliced thin
1/2 c Sliced green onions
2/3 c Dry red wine
2 Bay leaves
2 Garlic cloves; pressed
4 ts Drained green peppercorns
2 tb Mexican brandy

INSTRUCTIONS

Clean the chicken livers, removing the connective tissue and any silver
skin. Season them with salt and pepper. In a large heavy skillet, over a
medium-high heat, melt the butter. Saute the chicken livers 5 minutes.
Remove them from the skillet and set aside. To the same skillet, add the
mushrooms and green onions. Cook 5 minutes. Add the wine, bay leaves, and
garlic. Cover the skillet and cook 15 minutes. Remove the bay leaves. In a
food processor fitted with a metal blade, place the contents of the
skillet, leaving the liquid in the skillet to reduce by half. Add the
chicken livers, green peppercorns, brandy, and reduced liquid to the
processor. Blend until very smooth. Add more salt, if needed. Spoon the
pate into a decorative container or bowl, and cover with foil. Chill for at
least 6 hours. Serve with toasted thinly sliced bagel rounds or toasted
French bread. This recipe yields about 2 cups.
