We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

Why do men not accept the gospel? How can they refuse the tender overtures of the gracious Son of God? Why do they even take offense at the cross? Let us consider an analogy. An etiquette book is a very valuable accessory. It is useful on many important occasions. A good one costs considerable money. Who would not be glad to have one, if it were given him? You wouldn't? Why wouldn't you be glad to be given such a book? Because it would imply you needed it! That is the reason proud sinners do not come to Christ. Their coming would imply they needed Him. They are too proud and self-righteous in their natural state to admit that!
John Gerstner

If the world is not rooted out from our hearts, it will devour them. There must be weeding, if the good seed of grace is to grow. But what weed-killer can we use against the spirit of the world? Here is a potent, three-fold formula from the Bible: 1. Recognize that love of the world is the enemy of the love of the Father (1 John 2:15). You cannot have both. You must choose one only. Make the right choice. 2. Remember that it was the world that crucified Christ and that it took the sacrifice of the Cross to deliver you from it (Gal. 6:14). How can you negotiate with the spirit which plotted the assassination of your Savior? 3. Reflect on the fact that the world, in this sense, is transient and ephemeral (1 John 2:17); it is not a solid investment. Devote yourself instead to having “treasure in heaven” (Matt. 6:19-21).

CATEGORY CUISINE TAG YIELD
Meats, Eggs, Dairy 4 servings

INGREDIENTS

4 c Chicken stock
1 tb Extra-virgin olive oil
2 Leeks; white, light-green part only, thinly sliced
1 c Finely-chopped onion
2 1/2 ts Minced garlic
1 1/4 c Arborio rice
1/2 c Dry white wine
Salt
Freshly-ground black pepper
14 Fried squash blossoms
Opal basil for garnish; chopped
Grated Parmesan for garnish
=== FRIED SQUASH BLOSSOMS ===
1 c Extra-virgin olive oil
1 lg Egg yolk
1/4 c Cold whole milk
2 tb All-purpose flour
14 Squash blossoms

INSTRUCTIONS

In a medium saucepan, bring the stock to a boil, reduce heat to low, and
keep at a bare simmer. Heat the olive oil in a heavy 4-quart saucepan over
medium heat, add leeks, onions, and garlic and saute, stirring frequently
with a wooden spoon, until soft but not browned, about 6 minutes. Add rice
and continue stirring until the edges of the rice are translucent, about 3
minutes. Add wine and cook, stirring constantly, until nearly all the wine
is absorbed, about 30 seconds. Raise the heat to medium-high, add salt and
pepper to taste, and about 1/2 cup of the simmering stock; cook, stirring
constantly, until nearly all the stock is absorbed. Continue adding stock,
about 1/2 cup at a time; adjust seasonings. Cook, stirring constantly,
allowing each addition to be nearly absorbed before adding the next, until
the rice is creamy but slightly firm in the center, about 25 minutes.
Meanwhile, fry the squash blossoms. Heat olive oil in a 12-inch nonstick
skillet over medium heat until very hot but, not smoking. Prepare batter by
combining egg yolk, milk, flour, and 2 tablespoons cold water with a whisk.
Dip each blossom in the batter and gently transfer to the hot oil. It will
be necessary to do this in small batches. Fry until crispy and light brown,
about 1 to 2 minutes per side. Roughly chop 6 of the cooked squash blossoms
and gently combine with the cooked rice. Divide the risotto among 4 plates,
and garnish with the remaining fried whole squash blossoms. Serve
immediately. Makes 4 servings.
