We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

God wants us to follow a recurring pattern of intense work and then rest, intense work and then rest, and so forth. Whatever view one takes of the Sabbath, surely the six days of work and the one day of rest embedded in the creation remain relevant in some sense. Any routine of life that is unsustainable long-term cannot be of God. He calls us to work. But he also calls us to rest, in order to work most fruitfully. What sets us apart is this. We rest, in order to work; we do not work, in order to rest. We who believe the gospel are not living for the weekend, but for The End. In the meantime, we figure out rhythms of life that make fruitful labor sustainable.

Which receives the greatest attention: the ornamentation of your words and phrases, or prayer for empowerment from the Holy Spirit? Which is your greater focus: exciting pleasure in the people and praise for the preacher, or reducing the impenitent to tears of contrition and repentance? After which does your heart clamor: the pleasure of knowing that your sermon has been remarkably good, or joy in seeing your people radically affected by the truth of God?

Meats, Dairy Main course, One-dish me, Pork*, Quick dishe 2 Servings

INGREDIENTS

1 Shallot, finely chopped
1 Cucumber
25 g Butter or margarine
1 Clove garlic, minced
1 T White wine vinegar
1 t Sugar
1 t Bouillon powder
1/4 t Chili powder
1 Evaporated milk
1 T deep-freeze or fresh dill
OR 1 tsp dried
200 g Gekookte worst, in one piece
S&P, to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

["Gekookte worst" is what we get when we have a hankering for a good
ol' bologna sandwich. It's diameter is smaller than bologna, and the
texture is a bit coarser, but the taste is similar. I think you could
buy a chunk of good bologna to replace this.] Peel the cuke and cut in
half lengthwise. Scoop out the seeds and slick about 1cm thick. Melt
butter in a saucepan. Stir in garlic, shallot, cucumber, vinegar,
sugar, bouillon powder, and chili powder. Cover the pan and cook over
low flame about 5 minutes, till cuke is soft. Stir in evaporated milk
and dill. Cook, uncovered, another 2 minutes. Meanwhile, remove the
skin from the worst and cut the worst in chunks (thick slices, cut in
quarters). Stir into cucumber mixture and continue to heat another 2
minutes, till warmed through. Add S&P to taste. Lekker with boiled
krielaardappeltjes [or noodles, rice, or mashed pots]. Recipe By :
