We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

Retire from the world each day to some private spot, even if it be only the bedroom (for a while I retreated to the furnace room for want of a better place). Stay in the secret place till the surrounding noises begin to fade out of your heart and a sense of God’s presence envelops you… Listen for the inward Voice till you learn to recognize it. Stop trying to compete with others. Give yourself to God and then be what and who you are without regard to what others think… Learn to pray inwardly every moment. After a while you can do this even while you work… Read less, but more of what is important to your inner life. Never let your mind remain scattered for very long. Call home your roving thoughts. Gaze on Christ with the eyes of your soul. Practice spiritual concentration. All the above is contingent upon a right relation to God through Christ and daily meditation on the Scriptures. Lacking these, nothing will help us; granted these, the discipline recommended will go far to neutralize the evil effects of externalism to make us acquainted with God and our own souls.

1. Confession should generally me made to an individual. There are exceptions, of course - as, for example when a sin has been against a whole group. But normally confession to all the church is not required to restore one to fellowship with the whole congregation. 2. If the sin has been against a fellow Christian, it is to that person that we must make confession (cf. Mt. 5:23-24). The rule of thumb is, the confession should not exceed the range of commission. 3. If the sin is not against a person, and if it is such that we need to confess it and gain spiritual counsel and support, we must go to a mature Christian. This cannot be stressed enough! An immature Christian should not be expected to carry such burdens. Moreover, confession to the immature may provide a temptation to gossip. Along this line, those whom we would confide in must be people of prayer. 4. The confession must be concrete, not amorphous. This is not to suggest, however, that all the lurid details be shared. One sins in confession if his recounting becomes voyeurism. 5. Confessing sins to one another is not a law, but a divinely given help and is to be practiced only as God directs.

INSTRUCTIONS

Well, the turn-out for the So-Cal Hotluck may have been small, but we
had a fine time. Much tahnks to Curt for hosting and another to Mild
to Wildl who sent a bottle of his Smokin' Chipolte Sauce. We didn't Q
there, but Kurt made me promise to try. We did, we like it, and now
I've got to get more. Evil. Here's the recipe for the cheesecake my
wife brought. She's kind of a natural baker, so there's been a little
bit of guessing as to the exact measurements she used. Preheat the
oven to 350. Crush the biscuits to fine crumbs. (The food processor is
good for this.) Add the butter and cinnamon. Press half of the crumb
mix into the bottom of a springform pan. Sprinkle with the minced
habaneros and crystallized ginger. Cream the cheese, then add the
remaining ingredients for the filling and beat until smooth. Pour the
filling into the pan, top with the remaining crumbs. Bake
approximately 1 hour or until done (when it's pulled away from the
edge). If the surface develops big cracks, try reducing the
temperature to 325. Let it cool and then refrigerate for at least 8
hours. The flavor is best is you let it sit in the fridge for about 1
~ 2 days before serving. Posted to CHILE-HEADS DIGEST V3 #318 by David
