We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

We will never get anywhere in life without discipline, be it in the arts, business, athletics, or academics. This is doubly so in spiritual matters. In other areas we may be able to claim some innate advantage. An athlete may be born with a strong body, a musician with perfect pitch, or an artist with an eye for perspective. But none of us can claim an innate spiritual advantage. In reality, we are all equally disadvantaged. None of us naturally seeks after God, none is inherently righteous, none instinctively does good (cf. Romans 3:9-18). Therefore, as children of grace, our spiritual discipline is everything – everything! I repeat…discipline is everything!

When the law was written on tablets of stone, there was a significant weakness. The weakness of the Old Covenant was not in the law. The weakness of the Old Covenant was the people’s hearts. They couldn’t keep the law because they lacked two basic ingredients. Both of them interestingly were mentioned in the Old Testament when God used His prophets to speak while under the Old Covenant of the coming New Covenant. First, as God said through Jeremiah, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it” (Jer. 31:34). The writing of the law went from tablets of stone to tablets of human hearts (2 Cor. 3:3). And second, as God said through Ezekiel, “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances” (Eze. 36:27). We by far have greater power to obey the law with the fullness of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us as God says, “causing” us to obey. So there should be a radical difference between us and Israel. It’s not in the God we serve. It’s not in the desire to obey Him. It’s not in the faith of a Messiah to take away our sins. It’s not in a law that is given from God to be obeyed. It’s not even in a delight in that law. The difference is simply this. The Old Covenant is characterized by people who were stiff-necked and rebellious (Dt. 9:6; 10:16; 31:27), whereas the New Covenant is characterized by people who have soft hearts and the ability to obey.

CATEGORY CUISINE TAG YIELD
Bst-, Glz/, Mar/, Sc 12 Servings

INGREDIENTS

1 Bottle good red wine
1 c Wine vinegar
12 Peppercorns
1 t Salt
18 Whole cloves
2 c Onion slices
2 Celery stalks with leaves
chopped
2 Garlic cloves
2 Sticks cinnamon, 1 teaspoon
ground
1/2 t Powdered thyme
4 Bay leaves, 4 to 5
1 pn Sage
1 Venison roast
2 calories 7 grams of fat

INSTRUCTIONS

Pour the bottle of red wine and wine vinegar into a nonmetallic
container. Bruise the peppercorns, or add a good teaspoon of ground
black pepper if whole corns aren't available. Then add the following:
salt, cloves, onion slices, 2 handfuls of chopped celery stalks and
leaves, garlic cloves, sticks of cinnamon, bay leaves and a pinch of
sage. Let the meat marinate in this in a cool place. Pat the meat dry
after taking it from the marinade. Strain the marinade and use some of
the liquid in basting, or where a stew or pot roast requires moisture.
This is a rather mild marinade and although such a marinade does
modify the flavor of venison, it does not alter it beyond the point of
recognition, as might be expected from the list of ingredients.
