Pastors will experience a level of suffering uncommon, unfamiliar and not understandable to other believers. That is God’s way of keeping them humble and reminding them that it’s not them, but the Gospel that must be on display through them. And when they understand this, they realize that successful ministry is getting out of the way and allowing the power of Christ to shine through. By using “jars of clay,” God wants to make it clear that divine power lies not in the human messenger, but in the divine message. It is true for all Christians. It is especially true for pastors.

Our Western worldview gets involved here once again. We have a strong tendency to want to analyze everything and place the parts in neat, mutually exclusive categories. So we ask questions like, How do I know whether it is the world, the flesh, or the devil? My response is that most situations will involve some of each element to some extent… (They) are treated as working together so closely that you cannot talk about one without talking about the other. The flesh is the earthly qualities about which enable us to respond to the temptation. The world is the milieu in which we live and which is under the control of 'the ruler of the kingdom of the air.' Satan and his demons know what fleshly parts of us are especially vulnerable, and they use the stimuli of the world around us to arouse sinful thought in us. The Devil would be a fool not to try to take advantage of the world and the flesh in his aim to destroy us.

Soba Noodles With Vegetables

INGREDIENTS

1/4 lb Fresh snow peas
1 Soba, buckwheat noodles
uncooked
1 c Hot water
2 T Creamy peanut butter
2 T Low-sodium soy sauce
1 T Dark sesame oil
2 t Vegetable oil
1 c Thinly sliced green onions
2 Cloves garlic, finely
chopped
1 1/2 c Finely shredded carrot
1 c Thinly sliced fresh shiitake
mushroom caps 2 ounces

INSTRUCTIONS

Trim ends off peas, and remove the strings; thinly slice each pea
lengthwise. Set aside.  Bring water to a boil in a Dutch oven. Add
soba; return to a boil,  and cook 2    minutes.  Drain and rinse under
cold, running water; drain well. Set aside.  Combine 1 cup hot water
and next 3 ingredients in a small bowl; stir  well, and set aside.
Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add green
onions and garlic; saute 2 minutes. Add sliced snow peas and carrot;
saute 1 minute. Add mushroom caps, and saute, 2 minutes. Add peanut
butter mixture; cook 1 minute, stirring constantly. Add soba, and  cook
1 minute or until thoroughly heated, stirring constantly. Yield:  7
servings (serving size: 1 cup).  Per serving: 176 Calories; 7g Fat (31%
calories from fat); 6g  Protein; 26g Carbohydrate; 0mg Cholesterol;
218mg Sodium  Serving Ideas : Serve immediately.  NOTES : Soba noodles
can be found at Oriental markets. Angel hair  pasta can be substituted
