God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

When their feelings have been hurt, people often feel justified in doing anything they want in retaliation. They can leave the church, divide the body, explode with uncontrolled anger, cut people off, lie, hate, and backbite. They try to justify the most wicked, sinful behavior with the simple excuse, “But I’ve been hurt!” Scripture, however, prohibits the spirit of retaliation, the get-even mentality that plagues human nature, with the clear command: “Repay no one evil for evil” (Rom. 12:17; 1 Thes. 5:15; 1 Pet. 3:9). When insulted, we are not to return the insult; when attacked, we are not to retaliate; when criticized, we are not to slander; when hurt, we are not to strike back. The Scripture further forbids seeking personal, private revenge or taking justice into our own hands; “Never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord’” (Rom. 12:19). It is God’s prerogative to punish evil, and He will see to it…. Rather than seeking retribution, Christians are to “overcome evil with good” (Rom. 12:21).

God has given each of us a conscience, a moral compass within our hearts, bearing witness to His Law. In sinful or self-righteous people (that is, people whose dominant characteristics are either obvious sin or obvious self-righteousness) the conscience is to some degree “hardened.” That is, it is relatively insensitive to sin or its own self-righteousness. But in a growing Christian the conscience becomes more and more sensitive to violations of God’s Law. As a result, our consciences continually indict us, accusing us of not only particular sins, but, more important, of our overall sinfulness. We recognize more and more that specific acts of sin are simply the expressions of our still-wicked hearts.

Tomato And Chicken Stir-fry

INGREDIENTS

3/4 lb Boneless chicken
4 T Teriyaki Baste & Glaze
Kikkoman divided
2 T Vegetable oil
1 Garlic clove, minced
1 t Minced fresh ginger root
2 Green onions & tops
cut into 2-inch lengths
separating whites from
tops
2 Tomatoes
cut into thin wedges

INSTRUCTIONS

Cut chicken into thin slices; combine with 1 Tbsp. teriyaki baste &
glaze. Let stand 30 minutes.  Heat oil in hot wok or large skillet
over high heat. Add garlic and ginger; cook until fragrant.  Add
chicken and whites of green onions; stir-fry 3 minutes.  Add  tomatoes,
green onion tops and remaining 3 Tbsp. baste & glaze.  Cook, stirring,
until vegetables are thoroughly heated and coated  with glaze.  Source:
