INGREDIENTS

28 oz Italian tomatoes, canned
2 1/4 c Salt-free defatted chicken
broth or vegetable broth
1/2 c Pearl barley
1 T Chopped fresh basil, or
1/2-tsp dried
1/8 t Celery seed, ground
1 ds Allspice

INSTRUCTIONS

Puree tomatoes in a food processor. Pour into a saucepan and add
remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer,
stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes or until barley is soft.
Simmer until mellow. Makes generous 6 cups. EACH CUP 178 cals with 8%
