We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

The word of the Father by whom all time was created was made flesh and born in time for us. He without whose divine permission no day completes its course, wished to have one of those days for His human birth. In the bosom of His Father He existed before all the cycles of the ages. Born of an earthly mother, He entered on the course of the years on that very day. The maker of man became man that He ruler of the stars might be nourished at the breast, that He the bread might be hungry, that He the fountain might thirst, that He the light might sleep, that He the way might be wearied in the journey, that He the truth might be accused by false witnesses, that He the judge of the living and the dead might be brought to trial by a mortal judge, that He justice itself might be condemned by the unjust, that He discipline personified might be scourged with a whip, that He the foundation might be suspended on a cross, that He courage incarnate might be weak, and He security itself might be wounded, and He life itself might die.
Augustine

As churchpeople, we sometimes assume that we are immune to the temptations of power. We don't make much money. Society gives us so little power that we think ambition – the drive to succeed, achieve and have prestige and influence over others – is a problem only for people in business or politics, not for people like us. We thus sometimes fail to see how we get caught up, for the very noblest of reasons, in the same ambitions that motivate everybody. Eventually, the people climbing to the top of the body of Christ can look just like those scrambling to the top of General Motors. Often you can't tell much difference between our leaders and those of the gentiles.

INSTRUCTIONS

This recipe is very simple, very fast and very good. The fresh rice
noodles, thick and white, can be found in the refrigerator cabinet of
any good Asian grocery store. Don't use frozen marinara mix++the
recipe deserves better. Any decent fishmonger will be happy to serve
you with half a dozen prawns, a few scallops, some squid, a small
fillet of fish, a handful of mussels or any other combination that
appeals to you. Cut 500 g of mixed seafood into bite-size pieces,
first removing any shells. If you are using mussels, wash and scrape
the shells and open them by putting them in a pot with a little
boiling water. Cover and boil for a few minutes, removing each mussel
as it opens to prevent overcooking. Chop a handful of basil leaves
and seed and finely slice 3 bird's eye chillies. In a frying pan or
wok, heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Brown 2 tablespoons of crushed garlic
and saute the seafood for a couple of minutes. Drain off the oil and
set the garlic seafood mixture aside. Put another tablespoon of oil in
the pan and increase the heat. Add 2 tablespoons of light soya sauce
and the noodles and saute for 2-3 minutes. Tip the seafood back into
the pan and add 3 tablespoons of fish sauce. Stir well. Add the basil
leaves and chillies and cook for 1 minute more, stirring. Serve,
Makes 3 to 4 servings. Posted by Stephen Ceideberg; November 17 1992.
