When I view a particular possibility as threatening, it imperils some value important to me. That is what I mean by threat. But suppose this threat is directed not to some modest finite value I love but to the very center of my value system, that focal value by which all my other values are viewed as valuable. Suppose my god is sex or my own physical health or the Democratic Party. If I experience one of these as under genuine threat, then I feel myself shake to the depths. In this way, idolatry intensifies anxiety.

Repentance is a theme that belongs in the gospel presentation to the degree that we could say one has not preached the biblical gospel if one has not preached repentance. In Acts 17 verse 30 the Bible says, 'God commands all men everywhere to repent.' God commands all men everywhere to repent. If we are faithful preachers of the message of God, then we must in God's name command all men everywhere to repent. Matthew 9:13 says that Jesus Christ came to call sinners to repentance. Second Peter 3:9, 'God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.' Luke 15:7 and 10 indicates that there is joy in heaven over one sinner brought to repentance. And in Luke 24:47, the Great Commission Jesus gave is that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name to all people.Our message is repentance. It is a hard message. It is a harsh message. It confronts sin. It unmasks hypocrisy. It denies superficiality. You cannot preach the true gospel apart from repentance. John came preaching repentance, the Bible says. Jesus came preaching repentance. The apostles preached repentance. Christ commands repentance. He does it at least three times in just Revelation 2 and 3. God saves through repentance. In fact, in Acts 11:18 it calls repentance, 'Repentance unto life.' There is no spiritual life; there is no eternal life without repentance. In Acts 5:31 it is said Christ is exalted as a Savior to give repentance and the forgiveness of sins.

Yogurt Lemon-nut Cake

INGREDIENTS

1	t	Grated lemon rind
2	T	Sugar
1/2	c	Finely chopped walnuts or
		almonds
2		Sticks butter or margerine
1	c	Sugar
4		Eggs at room temperature
2	t	Grated lemon rind
1	t	Vanilla extract
2 1/2	c	Flour
1/2	t	Salt
1	t	Baking soda
1	t	Baking powder
1	c	Plain yogurt
1/2	c	Lemon juice
1/2	c	Sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 10 inch tubepan well. Combine lemon
rind, 2 tblsp. sugar and walnuts. Sprinkle evenly in the bottom of  the
tube pan. In large bowl with electric mixer, beat butter until
softened; gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating until fluffy. Add eggs
one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add 2 tsps. lemon
rind and vanilla; blend in. Sift the flour, salt, baking soda and
baking powder together. Add dry ingredients at low speed of elec.
mixer, alternately with yogurt. Pour batter into prepared pan over
sugar-nut mixture. Bake for about 1 hour or until a pick inserted in
center comes out clean. Allow to cool 10 min. in pan, then invert and
cool completely, sugar nut side up. Combine lemon juice and 1/2 cup
sugar in saucepan, heat to boiling, stirring until sugar dissolves.
Pour hot syrup slowly over sugar-nut topping, allowing syrup to soak
