We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

What is success in evangelism? Is it when the person you witness to comes to Christ? Certainly that’s what we want to happen. But if this is success, are we failures whenever we share the gospel and people refuse to believe? Was Jesus an “evangelistic failure” when people like the rich young ruler turned away from Him and His message? Obviously not. Then neither are we when we present Christ and His message and they turn away in unbelief. We need to learn that sharing the gospel is successful evangelism. We ought to have an obsession for souls, and tearfully plead with God to see more people converted, but conversions are fruit that God alone can give. In this regard we are like the postal service. Success is measured by the careful and accurate delivery of the message, not by the response of the recipient. Whenever we share the gospel (which includes the summons to repent and believe), we have succeeded. In the truest sense, all biblical evangelism is successful evangelism, regardless of the results.

God has created each of us with a thirst that only He can quench. French philosopher Pascal called it a God-shaped vacuum in our hearts that only He can fill. Or as Augustine put it, 'Our souls are restless until they find their rest in Thee.' Man is perpetually seeking. To whatever degree we don't know the unseen and eternal realm; we seek answers in the seen and temporal. We look for eternal answers among temporal things. But we discover that they cannot provide them.

    14:1 αφανισθησεται σαμαρεια οτι αντεστη προς τον θεον αυτης εν ρομφαια πεσουνται αυτοι και τα υποτιτθια αυτων εδαφισθησονται και αι εν γαστρι εχουσαι αυτων διαρραγησονται

    14:2 επιστραφητι ισραηλ προς κυριον τον θεον σου διοτι ησθενησας εν ταις αδικιαις σου

    14:3 λαβετε μεθ’ εαυτων λογους και επιστραφητε προς κυριον τον θεον υμων ειπατε αυτω οπως μη λαβητε αδικιαν και λαβητε αγαθα και ανταποδωσομεν καρπον χειλεων ημων

    14:4 ασσουρ ου μη σωση ημας εφ’ ιππον ουκ αναβησομεθα ουκετι μη ειπωμεν θεοι ημων τοις εργοις των χειρων ημων ο εν σοι ελεησει ορφανον

    14:5 ιασομαι τας κατοικιας αυτων αγαπησω αυτους ομολογως οτι απεστρεψεν η οργη μου απ’ αυτων

    14:6 εσομαι ως δροσος τω ισραηλ ανθησει ως κρινον και βαλει τας ριζας αυτου ως ο λιβανος

    14:7 πορευσονται οι κλαδοι αυτου και εσται ως ελαια κατακαρπος και η οσφρασια αυτου ως λιβανου

    14:8 επιστρεψουσιν και καθιουνται υπο την σκεπην αυτου ζησονται και μεθυσθησονται σιτω και εξανθησει ως αμπελος το μνημοσυνον αυτου ως οινος λιβανου

    14:9 τω εφραιμ τι αυτω ετι και ειδωλοις εγω εταπεινωσα αυτον και εγω κατισχυσω αυτον εγω ως αρκευθος πυκαζουσα εξ εμου ο καρπος σου ευρηται

    14:10 τις σοφος και συνησει ταυτα η συνετος και επιγνωσεται αυτα διοτι ευθειαι αι οδοι του κυριου και δικαιοι πορευσονται εν αυταις οι δε ασεβεις ασθενησουσιν εν αυταις .
