We can learn something from an old rusty nail.
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.“
- Jesus, from Matthew 6:19-21
The rusty nail is disintegrating and will soon be useless. Rust is eating at the nail; wearing it out, weakening it.
You may have noticed that some nails (new or old) can be coated with a silver-colored metal called zinc. Zinc acts to protect the nail from rusting away, because the zinc is sacrificed (in the corrosion process) to protect the metal in the nail. But once the zinc is gone, rust resumes – so the zinc coating needs to be applied regularly.
The use of zinc is similar to how Jesus provides a sacrificial protection for us. This is so God sees the sinless covering of Jesus on our lives, so He will accept us into Heaven. That protection comes (is renewed) with a regular relationship between us and God, thanks to Jesus. Even Jesus demonstrated the need to refresh his relationship with God, such as when he took time to pray in the garden (Matthew 26).
Each year, there are dozens of new Christmas movies that celebrate the Season, without mentioning WHO the season celebrates – which is Jesus. Jesus is the missing ingredient, and without Him, the Christmas season is almost insignificant. It’s like failing to invite you to your own birthday party!
- Do you want an eternity in Heaven with God?
- Do you want a solution to address the disintegration of your life, due to the sin that eats away at you?
Renew your relationship with God, through his son Jesus.
