You can order a copy of Greenleaf Press’s catalog @ 1570 Old LaGuardo Road, Lebanon, TN 37087. They lay out a history Scope and Sequence like this (and have ample resources, it appears, to help you do it successfully). 1st Grade – Old Testament History 2nd Grade – Ancient Egypt 3rd Grade – Greece & Rome 4th Grade – Middle Ages and the Renaissance 5th Grade – the Reformation and Explorers 6th Grade – 1600 – 1800 7th Grade – 1800 – Present “It seems to us very odd to spend three years studying 200 years of history and one year cramming down the other couple of thousand” they state in their introduction. Though Christian in perspective, Greenleaf utilizes a variety of publishers including USBORNE, Random House, and Scholastic. In lower grades, some of the books may need to be read to the child, but many are at those early reading levels. The catalog itself is interesting, and caused lots of discussion and rethinking as to just what constitutes a well-rounded history curriculum.
RESOURCES – BOOKS There is a fairly new book out using Charlotte Mason’s approach. It is a book guide called “Let The Authors Speak” and is unlike most book guides in the way it is arranged. Instead of by title or grade level it is chronologically listed, (not when the author wrote it) and the location (country) the story took place. This is great if you are studying a certain time period and want to know about the 1800’s or the West USA in 1800’s or Ancient Egypt. The only draw back is there are so many books listed there isn’t enough room for much of a review.

Aves Science is “science supply company specializing in homeschool laboratory science units.” Their specialty is “complete self-contained laboratory units that are essentially identical to conventional laboratory exercises, but are designed and packaged for the homeschooler.”
Each science unit comes in a white cardboard box with all equipment included. Over seventy different units available from Bacteria Staining to Frog Dissections. Units can be purchased individually for a cost ranging from $4.00 – $7.00 or as batches as complete laboratory programs.
