Antipopes

ANTI-POPES

BASIC R.C. BELIEFS It is a historical fact that at times there were two or three men who claimed to be Pope. All had their followers, who gave due veneration to each man. While there has been some disagreement as to who really was the actual Pope, the Roman Catholic Church claims only one was genuine and the pretenders were all anti-popes.

POST VATICAN II For centuries, Roman Catholic books named different popes as genuine. There is much more agreement today as to which popes were genuine and which were imposters.

In 1969, some very traditional Roman Catholics claimed that Paul VI was an anti-pope. They said the real pope was a man they called Clement XV.
