The church is the most important organization in the world. It is the target of every demonic, hostile attack in the universe. Jesus personally guaranteed that the gates of hell will never prevail against the church. He made no guarantee that the gates of hell would not be unleashed against it, however.
Meditation is a middle sort of duty between the word and prayer, and hath respect to both. The word feedeth meditation, and meditation feedeth prayer. These duties must always go hand in hand; meditation must follow hearing and precede prayer. To hear and not to meditate is unfruitful. We may hear and hear, but it is like putting a thing into a bag with holes… It is rashness to pray and not to meditate. What we take in the word we digest by meditation and let out by prayer. These three duties must be ordered that one may not jostle out the other. Men are barren, dry, and sapless in their prayers for want of exercising themselves in holy thoughts.
Granny Smith apples; peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

Stick butter; cut into small cubes, cold

INSTRUCTIONS
(From a long-lost acquaintance)
Grease and 8 inch cake pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Use lemon juice
while cutting the apples to prevent browning from oxidation.
Tightly layer the apples into pan.
Sift the flour, sugar, cinnamon and salt. Cut in the butter. Sprinkle it on
the apples, trying to seal the edges.
Bake about 1 hour; serve warm or at room temperature with whipped cream,
ice cream, or lemon sorbet. I like to serve candied or crystalized ginger
with the crisp.
