God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

If I did not believe in the infallibility of this book, I would rather be without it. If I am to judge the book, it is no judge of me. If I am to sift it, and lay this aside and only accept that, according to my own judgment, then I have no guidance whatever, unless I have conceit enough to trust my own heart. The new theory denies infallibility to the words of God, but practically imputes it to the judgments of men. At least, this is all the infallibility which they can get at. I protest that I will rather risk my soul with a guide inspired from heaven, than with the differing leaders who arise from the earth at the call of “modern thought.”
C.H. Spurgeon

Only the Christian gospel presents….a way in which justice and mercy kiss each other… First, Christianity confirms the fact that justice must be satisfied. Sin must be condemned according to its demerit. This means eternal doom. The sinner must be damned because God must be inexorably holy and just. His all-powerful Being must vindicate His all-holy Being. Christianity never compromises the ever-blessed purity and excellency of the divine nature. Second, Christianity alone finds a way to satisfy infinite justice and provide infinite mercy at the same time. What no other religion has dreamed of, Jesus Christ has accomplished. He underwent the infinite wrath of God against sin and lived to bestow His mercy on the damned sinners for whom He died. The infinite Son of God took upon Himself a human nature in which He underwent the full fury of the divine wrath. The omnipotent God satisfied His violated holiness by punishing sin completely in His blessed Son, who “became sin” for His people. The justice of God was vindicated in full in the substitute, His own Son, our Saviour dear. He survived that awful vengeance and rose victor over the grave by the power of His own divinity. Now He offers to every sin-sick and “pleasure” – burdened soul an everlasting mercy. Perfect mercy and perfect justice in the gospel of the crucified.

CATEGORY CUISINE TAG YIELD
Eggs, Dairy, Grains 1 Servings

INGREDIENTS

1 1/3 c Sugar
1/2 c Butter
2 Eggs; well beaten
1 c Pureed avocado; (the riper, the better the flavor)
1/3 c Buttermilk; (I subbed some sour cream…you use what you got!!)
1/2 ts Cinnamon
1/2 ts Nutmeg; freshly ground
1/2 ts Allspice
1/2 ts Salt
1 1/2 ts Baking soda
1 1/2 c All purpose flour
1/2 c Chopped dates; (I subbed dried cherries)
1/4 c Golden raisins
1/2 c Walnuts; (I used pecans)
1 pt Heavy cream
1/4 c Light rum
1 pn Salt
1 c Confectioners sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

from "Maurice's Tropical Fruit Cook Book" by Maurice de Verteuil (some
modifications in directions made)
Cream sugar and butter together. Add eggs; mix well. Add avocado puree; mix
well. Lastly, add buttermilk. Combine spices, salt, soda and flour.
Gradually, add dry ingredients to wet beating well; it should be on the
stiff side. Add dates, raisins and walnuts. Turn into a greased 9x9 inch
baking dish and bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Combine cream, rum, salt and sugar and beat until stiff. (Of course, you
must have your bowl and beaters chilled to accomplish this!). Chill. Serve
a "dollop" of this cream on each piece of avocado cake.
NOTE: This recipe can be doubled and baked in a 9x13 inch pan. The cooking
time remains the same. I have never made the cream topping. I prefer to
make a simple glaze with confectioners sugar, lime juice and milk, although
keeping the cake "plain" is just fine. This is a lovely, moist, mildly
spicy, old fashioned cake. People will guess that it is a carrot or
zucchini cake if they don't know what the "secret" ingredient is. The
batter is a lovely shade of green, but the cake bakes up a brown color.
